Administrators gav240z Posted October 30, 2015 Author Administrators Share Posted October 30, 2015 Went to a meet at a local cafe here in UK the other day and found myself parked next to car number 35 owner told me that it was destined for you guys but had the wrong papers so ended up here these two cars could have been in the same factory 45 years ago in japan and then re-united last week after all this time I often think about this kind of thing also. For example I own #150 and Locky (Lurch) owns #149 - I'm looking forward to getting them side by side in the not too distant future for a photo. #35 was made just after the early rally cars which is kind of cool in itself. GongZ
I hereby dob in new AusZcar member Dyson as the owner of HS30-00114. As revealed here; http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/14174-inspire-me-240z-build/ The car is currently 'hanging around' in Airlie Beach - lucky thing! gav240z
Chassis254
I can shed some light on the location of chassis number HS30-00068. This car was in SA up until about a year ago. It has been sold back to a restoration firm in Japan. This is a response to post #147 gav240z
Administrators gav240z Posted November 10, 2015 Author Administrators Share Posted November 10, 2015 Thanks, I've added HS30 00068 to the first page post and included the photo we have and information regarding where it's now gone to. *Edit as a side note I read through this entire thread again and noticed I haven't included all the cars we received details for... I will aim to do this soon. I haven't had much time to work on a database yet, other than pondering how I want to structure it and allow people to contribute to it via an interface. I want to leverage the existing gallery, so make it possible for people to create albums for each car and have that tied to the database in some way. Administrators gav240z Posted November 10, 2015 Author Administrators Share Posted November 10, 2015 Photos of HS30 00036 have been added to the homepage. It was 907 Green in colour. It was last seen / heard of in 1997 when it was sold by a member on here.
Administrators gav240z Posted November 10, 2015 Author Administrators Share Posted November 10, 2015 Craig at wazcars has been busy updating his registry. http://www.wazregister.com/index.php?title=View_ANZIS30_Register Quite a few more chassis numbers on there now and I managed to get photos of HS30 00060. What is becoming clear to me is that the early cars seem to have been painted all sorts of colours, unlike say HS30 00149, HS30 00150 and HS30 00151 which were all painted the same shade 920 Gold. Earlier cars seem to change colours for each car produced. Perhaps giving more weight to the idea that they were demo cars and therefore were painted a spectrum of colours? Before Nissan switched to a more linear way of painting cars. By the way 1 thing I've always wondered is if there is a way to dig out eBay auctions from their archives. http://ebay.about.com/od/frequentlyaskedquestion1/f/faq_archived.htm The link above suggests it's only possible for 3 months then you have to manually request information. We often have item IDs but I can no longer view the old auction, this would be incredibly useful if we could get access to old listings. Anyone had experience requesting this information from eBay? GongZ
HS30-00219 I just spotted this eBay listing; http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Classic-Car-Mag-1998-1954-57-VW-Beetle-Mazda-RX3-Datsun-240Z-Lagonda-Rapier-Mini-/111821534695?hash=item1a091535e7:g:sToAAOSwrklVNJD6 (eBay item number:111821534695) - which is for a copy of the May 1998 edition of "Australian Classic Car" magazine. The listing includes a photo of pp.66-67, which is an article about HS30-00219. There is a picture of the car - albeit blatantly mirror reversed - presumably just so that it faces to the right. The article states that the car was originally 'burnt orange' (Kalahari Tan?). It also contains the old 'designed by Goertz' furphy and some claimed production numbers. This car is listed on the wazregister, but has not yet been listed on page 1 of this topic. I believe that this car still has the same owner, who is an AusZcar member, but I will leave it to him to claim it. Mr Camouflage
Saw number 173 at the WA Z day. Current owner bought it in the late 70s (second hand) and owned it ever since. Originally 905 red, but had been repainted before the current owner bought it. Edited November 12, 2015 by Mr Camouflage gav240z
Administrators gav240z Posted November 12, 2015 Author Administrators Share Posted November 12, 2015 So I spoke with Dalee again and he told me what we thought was #36 was actually #310. So HS30 00310 has been changed and HS30 00036 is still unknown.. This does however mean that HS30 00310 -> HS30 00319 were likely all 907 Green in colour though. curtis 240z
I can confirm number# 259 (currently painted metallic lime green) and #389 (white) are still in existence and registered in NSW
Zedhead70
Hi Gav, yes it's still bluish with a bit of black (replacement panels) and orange(rust) and I still own it. I will hopefully be on the run on the 21st but not in that, can't decide between the 260 or the 350, quality problem. gav240z

Before Nissan switched to a more linear way of painting cars. Maybe I'm stating the obvious here, but don't forget that the production line - and especially the 'queue' of 'shells going through the painting process at any one time - was shared between 'HLS30', 'PS30', 'S30' and 'HS30' prefixed cars in the period you are talking about (roughly mid to late 1970). It's clear that bodyshells were painted in same-colour batches, but each batch might contain a mixture of differently prefixed 'shells. Therefore you might well see consecutively-numbered body serial numbers for a particular prefix having different coloured paint. gav240z

Administrators gav240z Posted November 16, 2015 Author Administrators Share Posted November 16, 2015 First post updated with more photos and cars yay! I'm surprised just how many early ones are coming to light. I thought we had a lot less if I'm honest. Although many are in a state of half finished restoration. @Ian / GongZ - 00036 are you sure it's a 36 and not a 33?
