Let's just say I have 8k to spend.

I have been thinking of swapping over to either an Ls2 or 3 crate engine

Would I be better of spending $8k on an rb25/6

Can the ls engine take the punishment that an RB can?

Or are their better ways to spend my engine budget.

Don't say suspension because I already have that sorted  :P

LSx properly located will give good weight balance, the only problem with them for circuit work can be oil pressure drop so an Accusump plus a gated sump at least would be essential.

Just out of interest I did the scales thing a few months ago with my Zed. With me sitting in it, it came up spot on at 50/50. 1050kg, full steel, L28, Sr box, r200, race seats, 16x8 Superlites, full dash and alloy cage. Oh plus 100kg of me, LOL

As for engine, if a race class is not important, the Ls's are impressive.

Cheers

Build up a billet blck SR 2.3 DET bottom end, whack on a Primera P11 head.

Same as what is in the MCA Hammerhead Murray Coote Automotive  180SX.

Moter set back, better balance, lighter than any Chev, and you know what it goes like,,,,,,,

Uh bugger, forgot ,, the under $8k bit, scratch that!

You need a Camaro or corvette sump to fit ls  motor into zed car can buy gate plates to fit Camaro sump I found out hard way that early ls engines don't like standard sumps on the track 4 laps of Symons plains and my motor was scrap metal Havent had  problem with second motor and an a gated sump

LSx will give you better weight distribution than a straight six and be lighter than the popular ones too. Plus they don't need a turbo to give you lots of fasts.

I had just about talked my self out of an ls but you guys have turned me around again ::)

These still a long way off till I am ready for the engine so I will see what the budget is when the time comes.

So tell me Knackers. How is putting a Chev in any

better than a Toyota?. As far as im concerned at least

the toyota is a straight 6.

if you want better weight distribution go Rotory.

I guess it's because Toyota is Nissans main rival like holden is to ford.

That's just my view. I don't like the sound of rota's and from reading specs the 20b is heavier than

The ls1. I am looking at bang for buck horse power I think the ls will produce the most for the least $$$

And then the next question would be would you spend 8k on a ls3 crate motor?

Or pick up a ls1 and spend 7 or 8k on it?

From what I have read it dosent coat much to make power with the Ls

Why does everyone forget the VQ35/37?

All alloy super light compact engine that if you wanted could probably even give you a rear weight bias if you wanted.

VQ35's can be had as cheap as like 3k so enough room to go turbo even.

VQ37 redlines at 7,500 and puts out over 330hp...

To me best way to go ls is buy a wrecked commodore that way you get wiring computer and gearbox And then sell off rest of car Had customer end up with all the gear he wanted for $3000

My std ls1 put out 295 hp at wheels with mafless tune added a cam and got 400 hp at wheels easy cheap hp Ls2 are easy to find now and would give better hp than my ls1 But there is also cost of install extractors ,wiring loom mods ,computer tune to turn off securitys on computer, mounting kit ,gearbox mount , and lots little headaches on along the way

What Mick said. The other good thing about a LSx is it's lower centre of gravity compared with a twin cam anything but just be sure what capacity engine is allowed to be legally fitted into a S30 if registering the car might be an option.

My thoughts exactly. It's a Nissan engine, from a z car even, still 6 cylinders (though V6 vs L series inline 6), the VQ35 didn't win engine of the year for no reason! Not sure on cost but I've seen ITB installs in the US for that awesome induction noise.

I can understand the hunt for hp, but once you get to a certain point in the s30 chassis it ends up overkill, surely? Or takes way too much to strengthen the car?

VK56 idea is pretty cool if you were set on a V8 and wanted to keep is Nissan :)
