[/img]Judging from these forum posts I get the distinct impression 2+2 is almost a dirty word here ..

I personally think these are beautiful cars and shouldn't rate 2nd to the 240z for whatever reasons perceived.

Here's my 260z 2+2 running (god forbid) wire wheels which appear to be another subject of derision/disdain.

I can honestly say my car turns heads where ever it goes and regularly receives compliments on its wheels so IMG_3102.jpg

there is a lotta love out there for the 2 +2 ! Not trying to run down the 240z as they are also an awesome car

but just want to see the 2+2 appreciated on its own merit.[/img]

They are 'dad jokes', pathetic one-liners that dads repeat over and over again when a situation arises and they are too stupid to say anything remotely intelligent. It's a nervous reaction. While it is largely good-natured ribbing I would agree that, like dad jokes, it can wear a bit thin after a while. It's the same as the differences between the purist (patina, etc), the restorers (chrome everything), the modify crowd (flares, etc) and those pathetic Hybrid lot (V8s and GTO kits). Add to that the 'did it myself' vs 'paid for someone to do it' crowds.

It's no different from NSW v Vic v SA v Qld v WA, etc. (See how I left out TAS just to annoy them!) It's just Aussies 'taking the micky'.

Mate, your car looks great. I would be very proud to own it and other examples like PeterT's.

Thankyou PeterAllen-appreciate the compliment , and also that you and ScootaG know exactly what I am talking about here !

Lets face it-the 240Z and 260Z 2+2 are 2 very different cars and all I am saying is instead of insisting one is far superior to the other they both need to be seen and appreciated for what they are individually - that's all.

Once again -dont get me wrong - I love the 240Z but think the longer wheelbase 260 2+2 is also  just as worthy of the same adoration for its own appeal.

I agree 100%, and to anyone else that runs into me or see's the car, they would not know the difference between a 2 seater and a 2+2, heck even when i bought mine, the old boy had a mixed bag of around 12 zeds in his shed, i had the pick of any of them, and even then i couldn't pick the difference between them, i didn't even notice the difference in shapes when i first was looking at them.

Here is my zed in its former glory (which really wasn't all that glorious under that shinny paint)

The 2+2 is a great car, I loved mine - even if it was a heap. It wasn't because it was a 2+2 but because it was a neglected mess. Still it was a lot of fun and every bit an S30z in terms of feel and character. The wider wheel base did make the car more predictable.

In Australia they are quite common, however on a global level they are actually quite rare. I'm not sure how many units were sold in Japan but in the US of A they didn't get many 2+2's (280z's) and I can't recall seeing many of those around for sale in the US these days. Very rare really.

I believe they got a few in the UK but any S30z over there is now very rare and has been for some time.

Still quite affordable and obtainable they are a sensible classic to buy now and enjoy for years to come. Sadly I've not seen many properly looked after or restored due to their lower perceived value.

I would own another, I'd feel less guilty about putting a modern engine in 1 and some mod-cons like air-con / power steer etc..

260Z 2+2s were also sold in North America.

Thanks for clarifying I know North American only got the 260z for 1 year so I wasn't sure if it included the 2+2 - which I'd say is even more rare now because there are not many 260z's in North America.

I really like the Green Metallic colour on the 2+2's.

Thanks for the kind words Peter Allen. My bus looks good even when parked up with a few 240 &260 2 seaters. ;)

I'll admit that my personal taste has been that I've not like the 2+2, but I acknowledge it as just that - personal taste.  I've never believed one is better than the other it's just me !

Having spent time on this site though and seeing how good some of the buses look I'm changing though, especially when I have to choose between my wife and my daughter as to who can come for a cruise with me in the 240 !

The demise of 2 seaters was evident late 60's early 70's a generational change much to the dislike of the said motoring purists, a minority group anyway!!

Remenber these years, this is the era when the TR6 & Spitfire, MGB, MG Midget/Sprite, Jensen Healey, Alpha Spider, Lotus Elan, Austin Healey, even the 240Z were being replaced by 2+2's, Such as:-

Volvo p1800E, Lancia Beta HPE Hatch, Jensen Healey Hatch, Mercedes 280/350/450 SLC, Jaguar E Type 2+2 to name but a few it was a new DNA the GT Falcon sedans were considered a sports car with a back seat, BMW 2002, Holden Monaro, Chrysler Charger & Starion, Mazda RX7,  Cooper S, Lotus Cortina etc; Prince GT, Triumph 2000 MD, Toyota Celica's, Lotus Elite, Ford Mustang, BMW CSL Coupes, Camaro, Ford Capri GT 30000, the list goes on.

I never see anyone NOT liking these vehicles as a 2+2  or passenger GT .......................  as they say it is all amatter of opinion.

Give the Zed some credit, their ongoing success to follow were 2+2's even though they were lounge rooms, like it or hate it including the Z32 the car market were meeting demand of the market place which with all due respect still exists now but for sports cars we are only 18 to 23 for a short time before girlfriends turn into wifes and children arrive then we are in our heyday lusting after what we dreamed of in a car or what we can now afford to buy from a nostalgic purpose the older we get the less of us are around and then even getting back into kindney shaker sports cars that are low without mod cons don't always do justice the old body frame maybe that why the MX5 Coupe has been popular the 200SX, The GT84 ........................ :P Lynton

I think that a 2 Seater is seen to be more of a sports car as the Healey's, MG's, etc. were 2 seaters and they are really just for the driver. Needing the seats in the back is admitting that you are either now no longer young (have kids) or not old enough (not an empty nester). I have to admit that I bought a 2+2 the first time so I could put the kids in the back  :P

To my eye the proportions of the 2+2 are better and if you could get it with the same roof line as the 2 seater I would say it would look better. More the proportions of a E Type.

When looking to get back into a Zed I was hell bent on a 2 seater but more for retaining its value than anything else. Its amazing that you can buy the same mechanic spec of a 2+2 for less than $10k that you would pay $25k for a 2 Seater.

I love them both, happy to own either

Personally I prefer the look of a 2+2 but can appreciate that many people prefer the 2 seaters.

One of the great things about this forum, as mentioned by Peter Allen is the cross section of styles represented.

As I have said before

"Your Z, Your way"

Cheers

personally I would be happy to have a running Z that looks as good as yours do.  I started a 2 seat resto but as I progress s l o w l e y life has changed and I am thinking of doing my 2+2 instead so I can take my wife and girl out at the same time.  I have a motorbike for me time ;)

Seriously jealous, but not of that snow Scoota!

My first zed was a 2+2. It was cheap a little rough but went like a rocket and never let me down. After a moment of stupidity I sold it and brought an mx-5 !!

6 months later I sold the mx-5 and started the search for a 2 seater I could afford. After a year or so I gave in and brought my gold 2+2 and it's the best thing I did . I love it! And I can actually use it with the family yet it's still plenty of fun when I'm in it alone  :D
