I cleaned up mine with the wire wheel on the bench grinder then used epoxy enamel from bunnings as aircobra said.brushed on and it comes up brilliant. Takes a while with the wheel and sand by hand where it doesnt reach.low cost and keeps things simple.one small tin goes a long way.

I shopped round for a few weeks and found a couple of cheap engine stands,got some advice off here from old posts and made one in a weekend for under $150. I did have some shs and rhs laying around though. If your doing this for your rusty resto then your gunna need your welding skills up to scratch.... Just make it overkill with bracing and extended legs.and be sure to check the integrity of the welds on the stands as they are all made in china.

Ok fair enough.thanks for saying that the noise can be heard when gearbox is out because my next thing i was gunna say was check the cluch is facing the right way.oh well ill stand down i cant help.

Mate i think you over thinking this.if the noise goes away when you put your foot on the clutch then its probably cluctch related.nothing in the gearbox changes when you depress the clutch only.is the thrust bearing collar the correct length? Was the flywheel machined?was the cluch kit new?correct weight oil in box? Just my thoughts...

I think it was from an l26 out of a 260z with the rear sump.not sure if thats different from the 280zx or not??have you got an idea on the length your after?
