  1. although the strap is pretty crap idea, i reckon the Nissan diff mount will serve me for 5+ years with a stock L24
  2. kick panels and the cover for the openings in the bottom of the inner hatch done the rest with "fat" masonite what;s the spare tyre cover made from . am missing my one 3.2 is the thinnest bunings have
  3. 1. diff mount + moustache rubbers are all new 2.have jacked up car by the diff front nose and no movement (shdn;t really do that probably), 3. married to the girlfriend, so figured she's not under the spare tire i can try the strap trick just to be sure other then mounting a go pro underneath ,

  5. has anyone found a source for this, as used in some of the interior panels? the standard bunings one are way too thick
  6. i got a non-leaking 240 unit. don;t know if it will fit
  7. symptom is - sudden throttle movements cause clunking from somewhere in the rear. going over bumps DOES not cause clunking gradual application of throttle is fine 1. all rubbers and mounts are brand new 2. u joins have been replaced and all free of slop 3. checked all the bolts 4. diff strap is in place 5. rotated the wheels with car on stands and a bit of slop in the differential, but nothing out of the ordinary 6. exhaust and exhaust mounts all new what the hell could it be?
  8. tried to change in oil, but the diff drain plug ( 1/2 square "?) is just behind the rear crossmemember. so can't get either a socket driver or a cross bar in there. seems to be ~5mm short of space do i need to drop the rear cross member to get access and leave the diff hanging by the moustache bar? is there some tool i need to get?
  9. try jaycar for something generic?
  10. thanks let see what you have . sounds like the 280 version is the way to go generally, can;t wait to ditch the fuglies. anyone know of some steelies for sale?
  11. does any one have a set of these lying around? http://vintagezparts.com/images/280zx%20center%20caps_resize.JPG http://www.zcarsource.com/uimages/product_photos/wheels/2460218a.jpg i'm stuck with the uglies so i might as well pretty them up had a look at a few threads and looks like the , 280 ones with the steel fingers will fit the 260 wheel? thanks
  12. yes, dogleg and lower panels eg sills from zcarparts in the us most panel beaters reckon to stick with one combo or the other, although i've done my car in acrylic with some panel in 2 pack primer and it came out ok mots common rust treatment for the places you can't reach is to inject some fish oil into the sill cavity
  13. its a '71, but as you said, anything could have happened. i do remember seeing this white loop when i had it out http://i42.tinypic.com/2wg5gl2.jpg maybe i've got it hooked wrong? is there anyway to bench test it?
  14. ok, here's the deal 1. a couple of local rebuilders, such as performance ignition want around $330 to 350 to rebuild the distri. that means machining the shaft and pressing in new bushes 2. can get a reco'd 280z electronic off ebay( i know there are a couple of threads on this ). about $180 shipped http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Distributor-Electronic-Cardone-31-617-Reman-fits-75-76-Nissan-280Z-2-8L-L6-/292235053493?epid=76725910&hash=item440a9109b5:g:QhYAAOSw5UZY99dy 4. same, but $130 non-electronic http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Distributor-Point-Type-Cardone-31-606-Reman-fits-70-73-Nissan-240Z-2-4L-L6-/252467435360?epid=75279823&hash=item3ac83b5760:g:uJ4AAOSwSzRZO3JT what's the deal with dual points? 5. can get one from someone on the forum or the wreckers ( although all of these will be 30 years old also) 6. this one from what looks like a L26 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NISSAN-L2600-DISTRIBUTOR-OEM-22100-V2600-A129/130971312478?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 but i'm not sure that the curve eg the mech.advance and the vacuum spring is setup the same as Z, given that it comes off a fat, lazy sedan. same cost as above, but brand new (although chinese made) any suggestions?
  15. cut a long story short, i have 3 sensors on my 280 box - reverse, neutral and 5th. problem is that a couple of them are leaking looks like they're $50 a pop shipped. since 2 of the switches are not used, happy to plug them with a bolt... if i new the thread? anyone know?
  16. i bought this to remove my tranny and the job for now is done it is definitely the best way to drop trannys bar none. very low profile, wide stance and adjust for tilt angles both ways looks like this https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41LCrEV2CyL._SR600%2C315_PIWhiteStrip%2CBottomLeft%2C0%2C35_PIAmznPrime%2CBottomLeft%2C0%2C-5_PIStarRatingTHREEANDHALF%2CBottomLeft%2C360%2C-6_SR600%2C315_ZA(40%20Reviews)%2C445%2C286%2C400%2C400%2Carial%2C12%2C4%2C0%2C0%2C5_SCLZZZZZZZ_.jpg
  17. mystery solved the bloke too apart the box , replaced all bearings and when i got it back the reason for the noise was obvious. two of the large old bearings which he gave me in a plastic bag were rattling like crazy when spun. everything else was gold - synch
  18. early 70s 240 would out of puff by the time 911 2.4 injected version hit the street
  19. one shouldn;t compare once off pristine examples with the "average" price. even a ser 1 celica, which was never a great car would pull 20k if it was immaculate in regard to the Rx7 thread, still don't see the appeal. only thing that would prop them up is the lack of supply. certainly not valuable in the US, which is the trend-setter for all cars collectable. what i find interesting is that it seems probable that if 240 had a bigger engine, even the 2.8, with one more carb, it would be worth double now. It would have made the car actually competitive against the 911 and the e-type. however, one of the reasons for the car's success was the cheapness, which, in turn could only be possible with engine sharing (ala Jaguar) with the large saloon and SUVs.
  20. i'm too late to the party, i wanted #3 as i just need the lid, the rest of my one is perfect don;t suppose you;ve got the cig lighter bracket?
  21. doesnt look that stable to me. the garage lifts are much more widely spaced. what are you gaining over 4 stands?
  22. what are the "reproduction" phots? did you make them
  23. i like #5, only need the cig lighter surrond
  24. $60 and problem solved? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Electronic-Ignition-Conversion-Kit-for-Datsun-Nissan-240Z-6-cyl-Hitachi-Dist-/311931024273?hash=item48a089b391:g:8AsAAOSwwbdWJn8v
