  1. Thanks for the input. Will try to take her apart next weekend and have a look, This weekend i need do some major work on my daily and get a RWC and sell it. I do like the L28 idea as it would not need to be engineered.
  2. If you need someone that knows Datsuns then my is a mechanic at UltraTune in Mordialloc. He knows the Zs well and has 2 x 260z's of his own plus the one we restored together. Behind him there is the Z shop which does the body work so in one area you are covered reasonably well.
  3. Hi All, I though i put in a well deserved reply. Much appreciate everyone input. I have been postponing the replies as i hoped to restart the project without luck. I am so close to finishing it. The update is that she is registered and have been parked in the garage for 3 months now. Very sad but i am saving for a wedding and a bathroom renovation + nursery. Work is very bust and i am trying to get fit again. At least she looks reasonably good now and has plates. Do not know what to do to be honest. My daily also broke down yesterday on 40 degree day so i spent 4 hours by the side of the road waiting for RACV tow truck, money i had saved for the head repair went to the silly RACV sign up fee and towing and now there is not much left. I think i need to find a good head for her and just get her back on the road rather than fixing my daily. Anyone got one sitting around i sure would appreciate it for a fair price.
  4. Yes it is Gav. I hope that any potential bidder from the club understand what kind of effort this car will required. This wheels may not be Watnabes but I am very happy with them, offset is perfect.
  5. Is it not the car that was sold in Clayton less than 6 months ago?I hope it is not as I bought the wheels of that car and it was so full of rust that the guy who had it simply gave up, he got quotes for repairs and it was over 12k just for rust repair. I considered it but it was beyond my capabilities and I am hands on. I think he sold it for $12,500 without the wheels. If it is that one then I feel sorry for who ever buys it as it is above $20,000 already on eBay listing.
  6. Not sure if this has been posted. The dodgy fan of the cub Is selling a 432 http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/burwood/cars-vans-utes/1972-datsun-fairlady-z432-silver-manual-coupe/1102434012 Can you see the keychain tag on the steering column? I am pretty sure 432 had a ignition barrel not on the steering column. Just saying. With this blokes history it would not surprise me at all.
  7. Hi Chaps, So after 6 months of every weekend spent at the shop, Z is ready for registration. However I found out that I am loosing coolant so we checked the sump and it has traces of coolant. Sad day. Most likely culprit will be cracked head, the plan is to send it to the shop and see if it can be salvaged. But I though while we will have the engine open we may as well get some modifications done. What I am asking is for suggestions or recommendations for any other work we should get done during this time as it will be hard to find an opportunity. 9 months ago I knew nothing about the mechanics or welding etc. But I have learned a lot and I get a lot of help from my step brother who is a qualified mechanic so please dumb it down for me so that I could understand what I should get done. Work will be done by us, budget of max $2000 on the engine work. Car is just a tourer for weekends and some communising into work during sunny days. Please help.
  8. How did I miss this, silly me. So many people I want to meet and so much detail I want to inspect for guidance. Photos please?
  9. Have a read of Lurchs posts, he seems to be Gandolf of L-Block. There is a good post somewhere where here of what can be done VS purchasing a built engine. Sorry, can't point you to the link as I mostly browse the forum on the phone.
  10. Nice. Original colour? I like your plan with the engine. I am having the same thoughts because my engines number does not match so it won't no harm.
  11. Put up some pictures, it is always nice to have a look.
  12. Hey dat2kman, if d3n1s is not keen and the seats are not ripped then i would be very interested in grabbing them. I bought new skin for my seat but i was sent extra white so now it looks completely out of place. Good quality but extremely white.
  13. I am pretty sure this is not as original as stated. 260z had vinyl tunnel color to match the interior color. At least mine does and from what i read this was the case for all of them. 260z had chrome strips on the interior leather behind the seats/above the dog leg. Air box did not come color coded? So it has new carpets and at least some parts have been re trimmed. Never the less, what a tidy and clean example.
  14. This is a good deal, where all of these cars last year..... Shame to see her change hands. Don't know how you going to live with the Z tattoo now
  15. Good on you, you have another $50 in your account. I had similar plans to shine light on other issues but since i am stuck in the rat race i am happy that someone else does it. If you get into trouble please send me a PM - I have close connections to the Malaysian Crown who no doubt have some connections in Burma however i would only use such connection if you are in deep unfair trouble and it would take time as these people are always traveling. Best of Luck David, Tomas P.S. if you need any other help i would be happy to assist with the project with what i can.
  16. I like that style mirrors, I have been looking for OEM Mirros like these for a while. Dave Sholtz has it on his red Datsun 240z and they look great!
  17. Thanks Gav. I spent an hour searching on google. Never crossed my mind to use the forum search. Waste of another thread. I though $700 is pretty good deal so it looks like i will be holding onto mine for a while.
  18. Just wondering how much is NOS Datsun 240z 260z Bonnet / Hood is worth these days? I have one sitting in the shed with Nissan Part number sticker on it in factory black primer. I am not keen to sell it but since i am also struggling to get my hands on a set 15 inch Watanabes i was wondering if it may be worth to swap it with the right person. Dont flame me as it is only a question as i may way off the mark here but i would have though that by now NOS bonnet is a bit of a treasure peace worth some decent money.
  19. Such an amazing vehicle, it definitely inspires me. I suppose now that Ausie dollar is so weak and still has a little bit more to go, the US boys and gals will be ringing Les Collins for orders. Especially after seeing this naughty girl. I am very keen to learn more about the gear box and the diff set up but I am struggling to find the information - there is a decent write up on Les's site. Also the 30 min track video gave me goose bumps couple of times - oh the sound of the engine is so nice.
  20. The us shop MSA or what ever you guys call it sells genuine factory badges. I was very surprised when I received them as I thought they will be a knock off. I think it costed about $35 each which I thought was a good price for genuine metal chrome badge. Since postage would be a lot maybe it is worth getting a group buy organised and grab a few at once. Just a thought. Ps they had them in stock so it should only take a week to get here.
  21. PM sent.
  22. I think it achievable for modified but standard engine cars in fair for its age condition. Be prepared to purchase the right car the same day it is advertised or it will be gone the next.
  23. Hi Shaun, Do you mind sharing as to where you got the Watanabes from? I have been on a look out for a decent set. Cheers
  24. Bumping an old thread. Asking Viczcar for rescue. So I picked up a 280zx dizzy with 12-80 module, also purchased Boch GT40 coil. Now that is installed I am getting very weak spark and I can't work it out. The resistor is removed so maybe I have burned the coil? Any other tips? I really want to get it running properly for the carburettor tune as soon as possible, I haven't driven the old girl for a month now.
