  1. Quick question. How much is the RB conversion worth? $6,500.00? If we take that number and subract from the asking price it leaves around $18,000.00 for non running and non original vehicle. That is another way of looking at it. I Think he would be better off finishing it and sit on it until he gets what he wants for it plus the costs of finishing. Fix the diff, repair the paint, repair the interior, add some decent looking wheels, headlight covers and flares optional and its finished - ish.
  2. Hi Patch, I offered $20,000.00 for the car and the offer was declined so that will give you an indication for what money he is looking for. I would not say that he is trying to mislead in any way, he has been upfront about it. However from the Zeds i have seen it is hard to find a decent one. This car has Tail shaved but from the rust bubbles I suspect some savings were made there. If it is a filler job then it is a clear sign that corners were cut during the restoration, I spoke to the z shop here locally and it is a common way to shave the back without welding. On the other hand it is a 40 year old car so it won't be perfect. To me 20k is a risk and anything above it is too big of a risk. My mind boggles when it comes to prices of the 240s and 260s, I think a lot of people see the 50k and 60k cars and don't realise that more than the asking price was spent on restoration and it is finished car. Like the white one for 7k or the red rust bucket where the asking price was 6k I know of one in NZ that has over 120k spend with receipts and asking price is 50k NZ Ps I recently found two matching number 240z "barn finds" and looking at another two this weekend - there are good base vehicles out there still. Will post a thread on barn finds in QLD soon if anyone's intrested.
  3. I would say under 20k mark. However there are some people who would pay more, just a mater of time. Biggest draw back is the lack of restoration history, if you find it and post it then this zed could sell for a lot more. Reasoning is obvious, I have been inspecting a lot of Zeds lately and I can say that 9/10 have been poor restorations without any history. However the ones with restoration proof or original sell quickly and for a premium. Best of luck with the sale.
  4. I also think that it is the best colour. However my missus thinks it looks like something that came out of a baby. But what does she know, she thinks it should be red to match her red lipstick
  5. Hi Gav, The goal is to have a daily driver. If it is a clean close to original car then I could not let myself customise it but would aim to bring it back to as close to original spec as possible. On the other hand if it is rough car / 260z rather than 240z then I would go down the path of the customisation as it would cost too much to bring it back to its original spec. Plus some of the them really come up well with the right set up. I have a budget of around $22,000 at the moment so ideally it would be a drivable vehicle that I could use until I source all of the parts for minor rust repairs, seals, missing or worn interior parts etc. I have been on the hunt on and off for about 3 years now and I always miss out by a week or two when it comes to a clean example. Ove the last 6 months I have checked the net every morning without a miss, placed advertisements in newspapers, brought up a Z topic every time I visited regional Victoria and I am very surprised how few people know about the 240z and 260z. Anyway I still have not managed to buy one. The closest I got was a V8 white Datsun couple of years ago in Gladstone, the red original one from Tasmania couple of months ago (missed that one because I could not fly up on the day of the inspection) and the red on from WA few months ago (well restored one that had built thread on this forum) beautiful car. I have been a fan of the Z for about 10 years now (even the Z bus has gorgeous lines– not as good as a two seater but still nice ) and have never owned anything other than Japanese including nostalgia cars such as an RA28 Celica (Fast back that I restored back to original ( got written off in a car park by an L plater) so I will continue looking but I am losing steam so to speak. P.S. my step brother is a mechanic (absolutely loves Z’s as well), and best mate does car interior re-upholstery so I can get quality help.
  6. This may save someone a trip. The White 240z looks good from far but is far from good. Owner could not tell much about the history. Rust is held together by aluminium right angle and rivets around tail lights, doors and other common rust prone areas. Filler is visible on a quick inspection. Has has been in a front end accident and has been on its roof some time. The paint smells fresh and has runs in it. I think this one was a quick job to try to sell it. I am loosing hope in finding a decent 240z even with a flexible budget. Apologies for any sentencing and spelling mistakes, typed on IPhone.
  7. Hi, Just wondering if anyone can recommend anyone to transport two old 240z from Gold Coast to Melbourne? One of the 240Z is in bits but rolling. Would much appreciate any input. Would hate to have to tow on a trailer x 2 trips. Apologies if this is the wrong place to post. Ps. I have been creaping in these forums for years but never posted until recently, did not have the money to start so was just dreaming and learning from you lot, great forum. Will start a build thread shortly. Tomas
  8. Lower radiator supports. I know it is not a panel but it is hard to find a Z without issues on the radiator supports.
