Hey guys I have been looking at my cylinder head lately and as usual cause I'm a newbie I've come up with some questions that I've tried researching but haven't had much luck. The head is an E88 unit and what I'm trying to work out is its past. I recently discovered that the person who use to own my 240z worked with Gordon Dobie and he did some engine work on my Z. I gather he fitted bigger valves (44 and 35mm). But i was wondering if there's a way to tell if its been ported? Also do all ports need to be the same size, cylinder 3 and 4 have roughly 36 -37mm exhaust ports but the rest are around 32mm. Also there's some damage to the combustion chamber in cylinder 3 which I've taken a photo of and would love your opinion on Thanks guys, go easy on me

Yeah i think those carbon mirrors would look great, very modern touch. Along with some fairlady z badges and this would be one very nice Z (already is). Dont let the purist worry you they should just be happy another one has been saved and getting driven, besides its only a paint job and is easy to change if you wanted to go back to a period correct color one day. Now just drive the nuts off it and enjoy it!

Looking awesome mate ! Good job, Dont believe there's many green ones like that in Aus either. Without seeing them i say the carbon door mirrors something a bit different to fender mirrors. Do you plan on putting badges on it or are you going for the shaved / clean look?

Hey mate Sent a PM

What's with the lack of content now days?
240z71 replied to luvemfast's topic in General Discussions
+1, i would be interested in the motorcycle carb setups you have ran, manifold, linkage and all the tricks involved. You could make some valuable content. Also a thread with video tours of peoples s30z's that are running could be some more cool content and generate some good conversation. Just an idea but it would no doubt have its difficulties as people would have to get you tube channels -
Hey mate How does that stuff compare price wise and protection wise with por 15 or rust bullet? Cant find prices anywhere online
-
Hey mate, although i wasn't at the meet you should be able to find those videos by typing on youtube "s30 sound tests" and there is about 7 of them. Hope this helped and hope they are the videos your talking about

HaHa. Yeah i decided to put the hatch on to see if the whole show flowed nicely. If only it was as easy as parking another zed next to it, Don't know of another one within about a 2 hour drive

Hey guys Pulled the Z into the sun to have a look after i finished shaping. I think there is still some areas i cant get to until i take the skin off and if still got to shrink it but might wait a bit to do that. Would be awesome if you guys could take a look and tell me if you can see anything unusual Thanks
-
Wow you guys are awesome, think ill get the shape right first and then give shrinking a go, or should i shrink it first?

Hey guys I've done some more work on the roof and I've got a few more questions, I'm starting to get the right shape for the roof by smacking out the valleys between the new bit of metal and the original roof. For this I've started to use a curved dolly with a flat bit of steel on the top of the roof and hitting up with the dolly. It's starting to look good but will I start stretching the metal if I do it to much?. which Leads to my next question, in parts of the roof it's got a good amount of tension and is about as firm as a normal roof but in others it's a bit spongy and pushy, is there a way to get some good tension and firm it up but keep the shape? Thanks
-
I gave what peterallen suggested with some bits of old train rail and it really helped basically flattened that valley right out but still kept the overall shape, worked a treat. I will finish the welding fully first I think before doing more with the train rails though. I'll probably do it to all the side edges as well as they have a minute version of what the front had or would this make it loose the tension the roof needs to hold its shape. Yeah I never was to set on using lead filler in the body and with today's bog technology no point really. Thanks guys

I got the patch panel from making some aluminium strips shaped to a 240z roof and then went to pick a part armed with a cordless grinder and searched for a roof with the same profile as the aluminium, ended up cutting it out of the front of a 1998 ford laser which fitted perfectly. Then cut to size and supported it. I will get around to donating trust me it's just that I'm 16 going on 17 and with VCE and life time and money are tight. But I will do it. Gav I agree with the warping but I made sure that I could touch it before doing the next weld but maybe not long enough. I will try and work it but overall I think it looks good just that front edge which I might just need to give a little boy or mabye lead filler? I'll attach more pics

Hey guys Over the weekend I had a go at patching the sunroof in my 240z and I would say that it went pretty good. The only bad spot I can see is at the front were the two edges meet, its formed a bit of a valley. I was wanting to know if there is a way I can pull the two edges back up, the bit of aluminium on top of the roof is shaped off another 2 seater s30 roof so the closer I can get to that the better. Thanks

Hey guys I was just wondering what's involved in doing the front chassis rails, how do get all the suspension parts that mount on the rails to go back to stock angles and position?, also how bad would you guys say the rails would have to be to replace the whole lot like this vs just patching sections of the front rails up?. Thanks
-
Yeah that seems like it's worth a shot Funny you mention that because I've been focusing on finding a patch panel for my roof as I'm now gonna try and fix it, I used some bits of aluminium shaped to the curve of a good s30z 2 seater roof and then I went to "pick a part" when I was down in melbourne to find a car with the same curve and just cut it out with a cordless grinder and paid $10! for a massive bit of roof. Can report that when I got home from melbourne and layed it on the roof it looked perfect! I'll do a more detailed write up on it when I start my build thread and show what car I cut the roof out of. Also thought I would say that there is an early rx7 down at pick a part if any one wants it don't know if there in demand or not just thought I would say in case someone is after one

2 seater or 2+2 ?, will have a big impact on price in my opinion
-
Thanks mate that would be awsome!, surely I'm not the only one with some questions about it. Keep up the good work Thanks

Hey does someone know of a tutorial / method of how to get the rear fenders off like the photo, I know drill spot welds and that but where are they all. I've heard you can hack up the fender if your not careful, sorry if this is a bit of a thread hijack

Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..
240z71 replied to gav240z's topic in Cars For Sale
The red rolling shell has been taken off ebay?, either the seller started regretting putting it up or someone payed a very pretty penny to just buy it outright off of ebay. Bit strange, wonder what $$ it took -
I see where your coming from there and I could just have a go, the thing stopping me is the fact that I can get one from America and I would bring in some reproduction panels as well to save on freight and do it all at once. I would say as well that my project would be more likely to fail being over optimistic than a lack of knowledge. Eg. Getting in in way over my head trying to transform a 2+2 roof to a 2 seater when I could save my self a massive head ache and buy one from from America? That would just be my theory
-
I would buy that roof skin off the 2+2 but I'm still a bit on the fence as to weather it would work or not. I don't doubt it would with the right tools and person operating those tools but I'm just a DIYer. I would give it a crack if it had been done before or it was known to be possible but I'm not sure? I've got the same question as gilltech and I also have the same theory about it. Don't know any other options though dispite America and a composite roof.sorry to ask again but Would anyone happen to have a lead on the roof mold Benzed used or of any other mold in Australia for a composite material 240z roof?
-
Hey Gav, I was just reading that"rust bucket" project thread again on 2+2 roof onto a 2 seater and I don't think he ended up using the 2+2 skin did he, from what I can make out he only used the a pillars and drip rails but not the roof skin. Think he ended up saying it's too long a bit wider? Didn't he ? Thats from what I could make out, still might be possible thought ?
