Congratulations to Roger Lomman and Annie Bainbridge on their stellar result of first place in Early Classic Handicap and fifth in Classic Outright. Great effort! Only S30 competing by the look of it.

Diff and Gearbox Industries have moved from their Wilston premises to 2/67 Araluen St, Kedron 4031. Steve, the proprietor of the business can be contacted on 07 3359 8569 or 0417 704 942 (24 hour). These guys are used by a number of us Brisbane forum member motor sport participants. Steve is particularly adept at setting up and torquing clutch pack R180 and R200 LSDs for track work.

The Subi diff option is the cheapest. You can pick one up for between $600 -$1k plus stub axles. Nissan clutch pack LSD centres are $1800 alone. Aftermarket LSD centres are similar prices. It's an expensive exercise whichever way you go. Don't forget the Subi option with Stewart Wilkins stub axles uses R200 half shafts which makes switching between R180/R200 diffs less painful although you have to change moustache bars too.

Another word of caution and not trying to rain on your entrepreneurial parade but the roof looks like asbestos cement which can be a real liability and changing a building's occupancy I.e. Warehouse to residential in part or full can trigger a Development Approval which can result in retrospective upgrade of the current BCA requirements - disabled access, fire and life safety, fire resistive construction, blah, blah, blah! Wouldn't hurt to talk to an architect or a building certifier before you sign on the line. Mike

Sorry, brake set-up has been promised to someone else. I do have a set of the S12+8 callipers dat2kman was referring to if you are interested?
-
The Stewart Wilkins Motorsport modded stubby shafts for the Subaru diff don't have the Datsun R180 half shaft centre bolt fitting so you have to source R200 half shafts or another pair of R180 half shafts and change the inboard Uni flange for the outboard ones i.e. Outboard flanges both ends. I would steer clear of the viscous Subaru diffs and plump for a Torsen or clutch pack type; the latter being harder to find.

Agree. I stand corrected. I thought the valves and ports were different on the 260z E88 and MR 30 E88 but just went and measured both and they the same. It's all in the combustion chamber c.c. If you were chasing compression and chamber shape it would probably be simpler to weld up and reprofile a P 90 head if your not restricted by rules.
-
The E88 and E88 EFI heads are quite different beasts. Small ports and valves with large chamber versus big ports and valves with small chamber. The E88 is comparatively plentiful, the EFI, not so.
-
Which E88 head? The early carby head or later skyline EFI one?
-
The E88 EFI only comes on the MR30 5 door hatch model. The MR30 sedan came with the hideous N47 head with sleeve lined round exhaust ports.

Hi GodZilla, fully concur with the sound advice profered by gav240z and CBR Jeff. I'm currently restomoding a 260z coupe which was a shell with "complete" car in boxes...apparently. It was a reasonable shell but new floors, dogleg, battery recess, and front rail patch and the dollars rapidly mount up. All zed bits are getting hard to get and yes there are repro bits in the states, but they are limited and big bits cost a bomb to ship. You are better of talking to your friendly bank manager and getting a loan for $20k and buying a car someone spent $40k on a few years. Then you get to enjoy it straight away and still have a life! But I was given the same advice and ignored it too! Good luck with your hunt. If I can be of any help....Mike

Thanks Alan, that's really interesting. Like you, we fabricated our own replica "works" brake pedal (with the side skirt) for our Tarmac rally car before this one came into our possession. I'm guessing the pedal ratio (4.14) is the same as a standard pedal? Never compared it side by side with a standard unit. There is quite a bit of engineering in the works fabricated pad. Quite intricate if it was hand made. Can you explain the Grp 2 A10 thing please?
-
Sorry, took a bit of time to get over to Robin's place to dig out the brake pedal.. The memory plays tricks. I thought it had a parts sticker on it. Don't know if the numbers are factory or not but pictures tell a thousand words and the pedal is not dissimilar to the one depicted in your foot-well photo Alan.

Electrically Heated Front Windscreen - Eoi
Mike260LW replied to Mike260LW's topic in Electrical systems
AK, These are a Motorsport based product. Don't know if they are road legal. Don't know if they do rear windscreens but I doubt it. Haven't got that far with the delivery logistics. The retailer may be able to piggy back delivery off the back of other deliveries to Melbourne. Mike -
Electrically Heated Front Windscreen - Eoi
Mike260LW replied to Mike260LW's topic in Electrical systems
It is effectively clear. It's the lightest of tints and only perceptible if you put it on a white background. The standard screen I bought the other day for my other 260Z had the same sort of "tint". -
I am seeking expressions of interest for internally electrically heated S30 front windscreens. We have been running one in our Tarmac Rally car for a couple of years now and they are excellent. These are the same style as the V8 Supercars run. The internal electric element wires are invisible. The windscreens are laminated, green tinted, with a blue sun band. These are excellent for race cars where you want to ditch all the heavy heater boxes and blowers, and the need to reticulate boiling water inside the cabin. We have unfortunately damaged our screen removing it for a pedal box upgrade. There is a minimum order of six, at a cost of $635 each, or 7+ at $610.00. Delivery time will be about 12 weeks.

Ok, the plot thickens, the middle photo of my previous post from the 76 season ( Dunko sideways with arse in a ditch) was posted with the wrightup for the Warana Rally of that year which Dunkerton won in "260Z". Same car as other photos from 76 season. Note the door number sponsor, but no Carnet No. Plate. The door decals are consistent with photos of other competitors of that year. I think the photo you posted is from another year. Earlier maybe?
-
Jason, i think we are talking cross purposes here. The red zed referred to is not the car Dunkerton and Stean campaigned together in various Tarmac rallies here and in NZ and Ross drove in the Race to the Sky; but the 240z David R now owns. Alan added bits to it when it was in his stable.
-
Sorry, I came in late on this discussion, but I got the impression it was being implied the 4080 car was campaigned in the '75 & '76 ARC championships. But it would appear neither Dunkerton or any of the other Zed front runners were using the 4080 car which gives credence to the car being returned to Japan. I'll get some photos of the works pedal we have and pose them. Looks identical to the one pictured here.
-
A bit confused about this. The following photograph is from the 1975 Australian Competition Year. Its right hand drive, no carnet plate. The next pictures are from the 1976 Australian Competition Year. Appears to be the same RHD car. Clearly not "4080". The "Red Zed" referred to earlier in this thread is owned by 24 Dat. The car was originally built by Alan Stean who, as discussed elsewhere, is well connected with Ross Dunkerton from rally Zeds in WA in the day and later navigating for Ross in various events. Alan built the Red Zed for a customers a road going car, then had the opportunity to buy it latter and fitted it with good parts from his stores. 24 Dat confirmed the advice the front struts came from a Dunkerton car, sporting a Halda drive take-off point, but doesn't know if they were from a "Factory Works" car, a "Nissan Australia works" car or a Dunkerton, the Privateer, car. Alan was also an authorised Nissan Parts Dealer and had access to other good bits. The "works Pedal box" referenced, is limited to a works brake pedal. It has a cross-hatched metal foot pad and skirt welded onto the right hand underside to prevent your foot slipping under the brake pedal when moving from the accelerator in a hurry! We have one in our stockpile, complete with nissan spare parts sticker. A gift from Alan Stean.

I have a couple of E88 heads. You're welcome to one. Bris south side.
-
You can get them ex USA 240Z_au from Blackdragon and Motorsport Z. The fit isn't brilliant and will need some gentle fetteling to adopt the right contour.
-
I am now on to my third '74 260Z coupe too. They all seem to be sub 1000 VIN numbers and we seem to have got a disproportionate lot of them her in Aus.
-
Yes an early 260z ( '74) weighs the same as a later 240z which is the attraction of running one of them as a Group Sc race car. Same minimum weight but you can run the bigger capacity engine. Running a 280Z in Sc has a 100kg plus weight penalty. Unfortunately that short production run of the early 260 coupe has draw backs such as its really difficult to find door cards which are unique to the model.
