Well its decided it wont be 112. Also wont be red. Just got to wait and follow the thread few colors are on the table from the original color list. Btw if anyone wants almost 4l of lime yellow solid 2pac spies hecker paint cheep let me know. Shouldnt have rushed in buying paint. Oh well. Early girl is on hold for time being. Its a project demanding lot of attention and detail. Cannot be rushed. hence this one has started as it easier and quicker repair than the rusty old girl. Got my s1 gearbox and tailshaft (thanks to TH) the other day so she mechanicaly complete now. Shes been looked after. Also with my gbox pack got the efi system thats going on this one. So she be L series still. lot of work planned for ozzy day. Sandblasting the front and engine bay and replacing both rails while having some snags and beer inbetween Very excited cant wait till its finished and on the road. Pics will be comming soon. Need to change the title from grinch to something else since its not going to be greenish yellow color.

That is one ugly thing please someone shoot it take it out of its missery. Yep the winner of ugliest z of all time.
-
Dough another reason to change it. Forgot about Paul. Heheheheh Meh kidding i dont care if you guys have it. Its just a joke. A week to decide before I paint the engine bay. Missus wants 110 red. Me don't know yet. Still deciding how to go about it so than color choice will be easy. This car has so many plans changed its not funny. She wants red but allready have 2 red cars. We see how we go. Lots of striping to do next few days so plenty to think about and decide.

Cheers dat2kman, have all the tools and quite a bit of porta power and chains clamps etc.... my dad had a crash shop and a home built rack where I used to straighten cars out. I worked with crashies for few years and with my old man. Straightening 4wd chassis and breaking 20t chains while A arm bouncing of the ground over 1.5m in height and bringing a 3.5x2m shed door down with it. quite fun and regular change of underpants the thing is equipment is bit old and don't have access to my old mans workshop where the inbuilt rack is situated and have a car that needs pulling tiny bit. did see on gumtree from 1k for realy old home made looking thing to professional item in good condition for 2.5K with the press and pulling arms. to a full kit with chains hooks etc for 3.8k. Enquired on weekend, basic kit new is 2.5k from the crash shop. so those on gumtree are asking bit too much. im still waiting on response what is all included in the base price. so far its the grid with all the hardware and pulling arm and some chains. Porta power is possibly included but not confirmed. if porta power included and i cannot get the gumtree guys down in price i just buy the new one. at least all the chemset bolts and fitting hardware is included. Lucky i optioned for the stronger concrete when built the shed. but if i can grab one somewhere for 1-2k second hand I prefer that. my wait till those gumtree prices drop down a bit to my level.
-
Yeah I'm after a floor rack and some chassis straightening equipment. Prefer bolt on concrete type so i can remove it when not used. old school stuff not a complete hoist and jig system. Arms and chains or hydraulics also interested but not essential price pending. thanks

This car had more plans to it changed than wheels at formula 1 pit-stops. The long story goes....... Ever since I got my 2+2 back in 03 and found this forum I learned the differences between 2+2 and 2 seaters, like with most of us love at first sight. I just had to have one. Eventually I found one about a year latter while still working on the 2+2. It was local with blown headgasket, few layers of paint and quite a few kg of body filler an interesting collection of S1 parts bolted on it. I remember the day when Missus and I ,hooked up a trailer after work to my trusty R31 and went for a 50min trip one way to the hills to pick it up. When the car was of the trailer under my carport fairly late at nite I couldn't stop looking at it, walking around it, like a kid with his brand new long lusted toy he got for Christmas. The next morning as soon as sun came out I was out the trying to get it to start. it had a blown headgasket on a apparently worked L28 with twin round tops and uni filters and trumpets. The oil had water and oil mixed so looked like farmers union iced coffee for few years. Drained the radiator, removed the oil and filter and fitted new oil filter and oil. Installed a battery and gave it a few cranks. To my amazement she turned over. woohoo wasn't seized not that i cared as plans were fitting a RB engine. Still wanted to see it run and possible quick drive in it. never driven a S30 before. My 2+2 was still in workshop 50% finished. Once the carby was primed with fresh fuel i Gave it another go. And she turned and sprung to life. Datsun never say Die. Was running for few minutes somewhat very noisy and grinding through cams. The lobes were black from corrosion. I let it cool down for few hrs drained the oil and replaced with new one again. Gave it another short run and noticed the grinding was getting quieter. few more oil changes and few days later engine was running very quiet but somewhat lumpy on 5 1/2 cylinders. Max running time was 5 min due to having no water cooling. The 5min didn't stop me taking my first S30 for a drive and first 2 seater. It was awesome. even on blown engine she pulled hard. exhaust was loud and backfired at every gear change. my short 2min stint on the road, pissing off the neighbours was best thing I did. From then she was under carport and awaiting its turn of new life. It got moved around few times which was easy put a battery in and bring it to life. Always enjoyed moving the old girl as she was loud and mean. Till one day one of the moves I almost lost the car completely. After first failed attempt to get it to run, i didn't notice the rear carby had excess fuel pouring out. She back fired through the carby and the uni filters caught on fire. Flame over 1m high and rising. I jumped out of the car threw an old blanket over it , (lucky only minutes earlier used it as a floor mat to check under the car) ran like hell to get the water hose to put the fire out. Damage was my heart pounding and melted two uni filter socks. Tip they are dangerous things. keep a fire extinguisher near buy if using them. Forward 8years now and 2 more 240z sharing the garage space with this Z. Space issues is quite a serious problem as 2 other project cars are also in the picture. Hence the recent for sale of this car in a thread on this forum. But that's what sparked the interest and another plan change for this poor 240Z. so progress so far. Stage one engine bay stripped Guards removed Striped few unknown panels from 10-20mm thick body filler. This one is going to be at least 20mm overall narrower car than it actually was. and probably at least 50kg lighter. not exaggerating. the previous dimwits didn't know how to align the doors or repair dents. they just plastered on top of the paint few buckets of body filler and one huge plank to align it all up... Bit of pimp my ride style. Luckily due to 6 layers of paint and 20mm of body filler seems to have preserved the panels well. besides dents the doors have minimal rust. Seals are lot better than expected. only outer skin near dog leg needs replacing. dog legs and inner panels are clean no surface rust. Still original primer. (pics to follow) Not going to remove the sunroof at this stage its in good condition doesn't leak and underneath looks very good and factory like. (yes Roberto joining your elite Z club Z with sunroofs ) i don't mind the concept of a sunroof or Targa tops but only at nice summer nites cruising along the beach. Daytime preferred them closed. Replacing the rails and fixing the floor. Original floor is still in good condition. no idea why someone welded crap over it. the rails are buggered hence replacing it. Fixing the front rails first than she be going on the rotisserie to replace the rails and fix the floor. paint under neath and drop it back on its wheels and attack. the body repairs. Overall idea is. Initially fix the car and refit the l26 with all stuff required to pass inspection. (pretty much stock car) using stock color of 112 the lime yellow or but to me looks green but anyway. (but still debating about the color choice till I'm ready to hit it with color. Once that is done and regod, flares will be bolted and fat watts or superlites will be added with stretch tire JDM look. than turbo and efi the L26. drive it till it pops (if it pops, Its not dead till i see a piston flying through the block ) than we see. maybe a worked L series turbo or Sr20det. RB is more if someone wants it but i probably will not install an RB if i keep it as my 73 is getting the rb26dett. may keep this one old school. some mock up and progress pics from Saturday. (yep I got a massive shed filled with cars and stuff but working outside with this one. its all fun and i love it) Sunday had a migraine in the afternoon did some more paint stripping and removing panels. Haven't taken pics as my headache was unbearable and decided to quit for the day. Pics will be updated. bit of a nasty rust on left rail. But ordered a set from my mate Nato so both rails will be replaced. She needs to be able to take the power of the turbo L series or Sr20det. One of my stashed front spoilers mock up. not bad but we see if this one stays. PS: Opinions. Keep the 112 color or chose different? Mick has one in same color so don't want to copy Mick and we live in same state

yeah they don.t just bolt in. but provision are there on the 240z to accommodate 260z dash. been looking at air box both 260 and 240. the panel looks same just some of the mounting holes have not been made on 240z. so u have to drill and install a nutsert or bolt it up via the air box (bit difficult). some mounts and holes are different on tunnel area between the two. but doesn't look difficult to fabricate something to make it fit. the heater pipes may not align up (haven't checked this but an assumption I think they bit lower from memory but could be wrong) and if you fitting a/c from 260 you will need to cut 2 more holes in the firewall for a/c lines to go through.

very nice and tasty. good work mate.

01 Magna Problem - Sorry in advance!!
Fairlady Z replied to dat240z's topic in Off Topic Discussions
+1 I'm with Dazda sounds to me like you have a battery issue. easy to try remedy. though don't have a Magna but have seen similar symptoms on other cars when battery dead. mine was just out of warranty2.5yr old bosch battery. showed green OK on the battery itself. engine turns but doesn't start. spent 40min cursing what was wrong with the car. Noticed similar dash flickering (which was my indicator voltage was dropping). Got the multimeter out and fair enough strange will crank and keep cranking but voltage dropped down to 6V while cranking. No way its going to run the ECU. Put a different battery on it and started first go. -
Had a privilege seeing this in person today. Its better than pics. Great car and great job.sure turns heads for the right reasons. Paul did a great job and having balls to do what he wanted. Lucky he bought it cause if he delayed one day that car would have been siting in my driveway and we would all missed out on Paul's vision. Here some pics and vid i took today when Paul visited me. And video here http://i1173.photobucket.com/albums/r590/FairladyZs30/Other/83201CA5-8FF3-4609-B36A-D827255003E0-2676-000002464CFBDF22_zpsf9acc947.mp4 Now to find a 2 seater with average paint at good price and do a wining safari rally version replica.

Make a stand against the new hoon legislation!
Fairlady Z replied to MATTY's topic in Off Topic Discussions
Wasn't going to say anything but i have been affected by this hoon laws and still battling to clear it up. I didnt have issue with police as matter of fact they were the only ones thats saw the truth and didnt buy the crap that was alledged i was doing. Media, politics and few anti car people has made it harder than ever. Yes get the idiots.Had few down my street and called the police on them few times with video footage. Well its been lot better now. Cars defected and impounded and ratbags have moved out. I had been pulled over and hassled because of the car but never defected. They do see you not the typical idiot and let you go. If you are well you deserv it Just saying dont accept all the hype and changes in name of safety its an excuse for revenue raising in some cases. Though havent been affected by it directly. Indirectly its causing me lot off issues. You will get done just because you not driving a sensible a to b car. Well i do have a problem with that. Anyway can't say details will update when case is closed whenever that may be. -
My new soon to be daily mini project RX7
Fairlady Z replied to Fairlady Z's topic in Off Topic Discussions
First day off on doomsday and what was i doing? Installing a tow bar on a rx7. Yep little rotary for towing jobs. Everyone laughed but here it is without the tounge and ball. Painted it red so it blends in. Lucky didn't get rid of it. Came in handy picking up 25 solar panels today. 400kg in back of the trailer little red rota turned lot of heads today with a trailer hitched at the back. 40min traffic jams, hills , sunday drivers, morons etc.... Mazda took them all on and got me home safe with no issues. Not bad for a 1.1l motor that was "in need of a rebuild" Practicality is overrated who needs a normal car when u can do everything in a sports car and drive in style. Any z towbars there?let me know want one ???? -
Kato Kids BMW M3 powered 71' 240Z
Fairlady Z replied to KatoKid's topic in Members Project(s) Journal
me like proper conversion. all nice and neat how Nissan, Datsun erm BMW would have done it and better. Great work David. youtube clip if you get it started for xmas. we celebrate with you. -
Well i stumbled across this product at SprintAuto Parts while buying new leads for the Rx7. looked at their video and thought yeah right. as if. But if it worked would be good. I needed strong glue to repair my demister tab that broke off on the back of the rx7 and recently a welded tab on the radiator that holds the upper part of shroud broke off. When engine is at higher rpm the fan sucks the shroud down and hits the fan damaging both. Only fix for radiator is rip out and take it to radiator place for a fix cause I suck at oxy welding. checked the price and wasn't cheap. hmm maybe this does work. Typical sales guys yep it works, but said if don't to bring it back. Cool so forked out $35 for 2x10mil bottles. ouch first job was to fix that bracket on radiator. should be interesting. Lead, Copper and Steel. followed the instruction stuck on pretty hard. painted over it so looks like normal solder weld refit the shroud. 1week later and 6500Rpm every day. still on and hasn't broken off. I was amazed. so than i tried it on some of my trim that had broken clips. 10sec later yep. all fixed . Fixed my remote control battery covers, metal spray nozzle that snapped when i dropped it on concrete fixed my damaged center console without any evidence of it being fixed went bit stupid after that testing it on anything i can think off. oh and tab stuck on glass like crazy. will post up a "fix your demister" soon. so don't waste your time melting and inhaling melted plastic repairing your interior stuff and still its piss weak. this stuff really works. i don't have anything to do with them or to have a reason to promote. just promoting not to waste your time. Its bit of some sort of super glue with bit of Pixie dust that makes it work. i think glue is maybe slightly better super glue but the Pixie dust what makes it set straight away and make a really hard bond. Link: http://www.rapidfixaustralia.com.au/ youtube link have fun. PS:it don't work on certain plastics read the fine print.

My next project a S1 240z resto
Fairlady Z replied to Fairlady Z's topic in Members Project(s) Journal
Ledge thanks for the offer will definetly keep that in mind. I worked in crash industry for few years and when was younger on my school holidays was working at a local crash shop for free just to learn. Im fairly good with wrecked cars but love to learn the old school panel beating. Not remove replace but repair and manufacture. Im treating this as a rollover (more like rustover) but happy that metal is sound where pillars need to be connected. Similar situation at rear. So shouldn't be too bad once all cleaned up shouldnt take long to fit the new parts. Other rust areas are common to all z so thats straight forward. As for colour of 432 not sure if 918 or 920 or something custom. These is one of the 920 coloured 432 the rest are on my pc at work Dat240z balls yeah maybe but more like Kato said don't get scared easily. Like a challenge. Plus this car has bit more sentimental value so couldn't cut it for parts. As long as i got time and motivation any tin can be repaired and improved. This z no different. It will have all stock parts on it but will use different wheels and bre front spoiler and jdm chrome fender mirrors for personal touch. -
My next project a S1 240z resto
Fairlady Z replied to Fairlady Z's topic in Members Project(s) Journal
cheers guys. Mick yeah shouldn't be too bad. As long as my magic bottle is full of Monster energy drink , with my trusty 25yr old mig and new grinder, magic will be happening and after relaxing with Johnnie Black. Roberto and Simon after getting a sample to see what the actual color looks like i was not so sure but now i'm in love with it. I had that 240Z Simon posted for ages but wasn't sure if it was 920 till the sample was made. Also there few other pics of 920 that didn't look like the one on the car. I guess 40Yrs or OZ sun don't help no matter how many times you polish it out. But once I got sample made I was convinced the color that was on the net as 920 is real 920 not some alt mix. Should come up really nice with 2pk clear over it to give it extra shine. -
My next project a S1 240z resto
Fairlady Z replied to Fairlady Z's topic in Members Project(s) Journal
New skin removed from the frame skin removed from the car and u can see my strengthening beams for the chassis to support the car while roof is removed yep the frame is cactus or should I say Rustus. next step is to remove all the rust bits till i get to the sections not affected by rust. Entire right A pillar removed. and that's where she sits now. next is to remove the left pillar up to the airbox hoping its in same condition as right. removed it to the manufacturing spot so only cut and shut will be on outer skin the rest will all be assembled as per factory plus extra bracing and seam welding. Need to brace the rear towers before removing the rear section of the frame. these rust lot more as the inner panels are not treated with any plating or paint. at least later model 240z and 260z have proper primer inside the sections and not bare metal like the first models. well after I'm finish with it she going last another 42 yeas if not more as everything will be coated and rust proofed. till next time -
My next project a S1 240z resto
Fairlady Z replied to Fairlady Z's topic in Members Project(s) Journal
OK my trusty beaten up flat head screwdriver had some poking to do. sometimes helped out with my tinsnip or should i call them RustSnips. OK looks bad. The early unprimmed ones do rust to buggery. so the check list For the body is 1. Roof including A and B pillars with complete roof frame. Got A pillars but rest need to get 2. Both Floors, rails and rear sections got rears part, floor and rails still to get 3. Rear slam panel. Got one TICK! 4. Seal panels and dog leg . Got it TICK! 5. Door Skins x 2 . need to get. 6. Bonnet. need to get. 7. S1 Hatch try to repair using 2+2 one I have if not steal the good S1 one from the other Z. TICK! 8. Left fiberglass headlight sugar scoop. Pinch fro the other Z TICK! Rest is repairable. OK not too bad $$$ but heaps off hrs to be spent. Biggest concern is sourcing a roof skin and roof frame. some of the shopping list above and more was sorted out thanks to eBay. Found a roof and frame after few hrs of stripping it. Ended up buying another 240z with lots of parts that's going to help me with this one. Like seats dash, bumper bars, door trim and other bits that were missing from it. So bonnet migrated to this one while getting a vented one from Roberto for the Z i borrowed the un-vented one from. Also testing the Fender mirrors for fitment. The holes were there already so perfect fit. some of the bits from my Z purchase. Seats. passenger is original from the car not restored. Bit unexpected that it was in that condition hiding under all the junk that was on top of it. Driver from my 3rd Z purchase so now have a matching pair. Also another purchase from the same guy i bought the roof from for other rare bits So far have almost 98% of the parts I need. than I started on removing the roof skin both from the car and new roof. -
Well RX7 is almost done few small things to finish up and so far its been great car to drive and own. But time to move on to the next project and my true love, the S30 cars. Some of you probably know this car already but keep it quiet about reference. Greatly appreciated. As with other one, you guys keep me motivated and I get things rolling more efficiently when the car is posted on the website.Keeps me more motivated.. This will be bit slower project than RX7 as at the same time will be tackling two other ones. This is my after work tinkering project. OK the car number matching low numbered '70 240z that needs lot of work to get it back to original condition. Before any work was done to it. Yeah most people will run away from this or use it for parts. That was my initial idea but circumstances changed and decided to save the old girl regardless of hrs or cost. Car was moved to my place after a quick wash and refit some of the spares I had for it. Bit of quick polishing of original paint to see if I can fall in love with the color. maybe some new badges will improve it hmm not really so ended up getting some mixed up. Group 3 color cost a small fortune. Apparently the good old 920 has bit of pearl lets see. I guess so it does. Looks very nice when sun hits it. so choice has been made its staying 920. next was digging around see how bad everything is.

Damn you. so it was u who bought it. I gave him a call to have a look at it after lot of convincing my missus and than said he just sold it picking it up next day. dough. i was going to do something else with it not turn it into a rat rod. doesn't matter at least its still in SA and in good hands. I think the painted stripes and that picked fence alloy grill was biggest turn off for most ppl. did you pay the asking price or knocked a bit off? You can PM if you don't mind sharing. yeah Mick u better sell that 1200 and get a z. Its customary that every SA Z owner have at least 3 Z so we could equal the numbers from other state. U got to have Stock, Mild and Wild. PS: ledge with ur sheet metal skill why don't you do the chop top like the one from US? show the yanks we can do better and quicker.
-
i must have been hiding under a rock somewhere to miss this. Im still drooling. Pete awesome work on the engine. A masterpiece Tom Great work on the car and engine bay. love it. (bit biased im a sucker for blue Z with RB ) 10/10 for both of you guys.

The New Toy!!!! - S14 Production Sports Car, 2B Spec
Fairlady Z replied to PZG302's topic in Members Project(s) Journal
nice S14. :'( that is getting pulled appart for the racer. but oh well its good to see a S14 on the track. i had mine for 14years. still running strong. no turbo or engine rebuild and running 1bar boost for last 8 years. Great cars. you got a good price looks clean even with 280K on the clock. i paid for the last s14 i had auto rough 6.5k but lot less kms. Converted it to man and still made bit on it. keep us posted on both cars to few SR20DEt freaks outhere. and if i need any bits let me know. got few spare S14/S15 bits here and there.
