Love the muffler 432r style. Where did u find it?been looking for one. Colour code the rear bar to match the front lower section. Also mirrors in matt black. Are they watanabe wheels? Looks great love to see it in person.

Cheers Gav, yeah silver and white was considered with red interior. But plans changed again. Going for more unique and as far as i know none like it in SA or possibly Au. This car will be getting the rb26dett bit later down the track. Color has been decided and bought to do engine bay insidethecar and under it. once painted will be revealed. Will be flared, with some cool rims fender mirrors and few more goodies from Japan. Still debating the sunroof saga. Its a good sunroof but what do I do. It will delay the project quite a bit if i decide to get rid of it.

Thanks guys. Dat2kman i sent you a pm. Dat240z yeah seen that one. But looks like i sniffed out 2x 200zr sumps localy. Just hope they not vg20 lol.

Since im going bit stupid on my 72 build I thought give it a bit better engine. I got E30 head which is bit too high in compression for turbo applications. So interested in P90 or N42 head anyone. Not after a fully worked head just stockish that can be rebuild. So not interested in 2K+ heads or 5K L series engine builds, just something that's been sitting collecting dust at a good price. if seems too hard to find one for right price i may as well leave it as is with current L26 efi and once regod drop the RB26DETT that's collecting dust in my garage. So anyone that has a 200zr sump not using or reasonably made custom, Rb25DET or patrol sump drop me a line. preffer something local but if interstate guys can drop it off to a depo than may consider it. Thanks

Mick if u get the mech type dr30 or r31 your stock driveshaft just plug in. Probably wont last long but it get u going. Also z31 has but later model (87-88) have viscous type and cannot use ur driveshafts. If u get z31 or r31 rear arms u can fit the half shaft from them and easy shortening of the r31 cv joints. Thats what i did to my 260z. I got a cheap machinist that can bore out ur hubs to use metric bearing. He still has my template. Shortening cv is quite easy. Swap the race around and regrove the spline back as far as possible. No binding. Worked a treat. Yes my lsd was 4.375 out of r31 coupe rb20det. Though on 2+2 would have preffered 4.11. Just try your 3.9 and see how it goes. Can be done without $400 adaptors and looks stock. Machining 200-250 of ur hubs plus new bearings. Just need to find the arms and cv cheap. Ill try find my old link

I have a 1973 rolling shell in primer. Previous owner striped it to metal repaired some areas and that was it. I Bought it as is from Victoria. Have done no work on it myself what so ever. Front rails are good and engine bay. Has had rust repaired under battery tray, sunroof hole welded, still to do floor rail on passenger side included , both dog legs, small area around wheel arches and rear 1/4. Can sell it in multiple ways to suit budgets 1. Just chasis with rust repair parts and id plates $1500 2 complete rolling shell with all panels $ 2500 ono 3 complete car minus motor and gearbox and center console as i dont have them, so lights, bumper bars, seats, dash, glass, front spoiler, handles, interior etc..95% complete. $4100ono obviously all in pieces or can assemble if you want but seems pointless. 4. Combination of parts to suit budget also acceptable. My recent decisions to pull the 72 off for sale and work on it has reestablished the storage issue and funds. Been spending a fair bit on the 72 so minister or finance not happy. Also my new car arrival has been pushed forward so extra space required. Reasonable offer considered. Car located in Adelaide, can help interstate buyers but best to come with car and trailer to load it all up. For local guys once car complete it will need id check at regency which is free and takes about 10min to go through.quite easy Pm me or email me on "fairladyz300tt(at)gmail(dot)com" for phone details or any other questions. More pics upon request Wheels pictured not included if you want them contact nato_240z_chevz. Bring ur own wheels or negotiate for 14" kidney alloys as on my 72 240z

meh I had enough of looking at my cars in pieces so want them on the road to enjoy them and not to dream about while reading other peoples cars or playing on xbox. So motivation is through the roof. I don't have spare time its paying work (electronics R&D for big company), and then home work on the cars or finishing the bits around the house. No time to go out unless is buying stuff for cars or food. Soo in another words only life I have is work and cars. Gav No don't work on cars for living, just a hobby. Used to fix damaged cars but turned more into restoration recent years. More satisfaction out of the job. Bringing up a rust bucket to a new car brings bigger grin to me and to lot of other people on the road. I've been working on cars since I can remember. Helping my old man and later working with him. Also on my holidays used to work for free for a crash shop close by to learn more about chassis and crash repairs. Welding the rails back is no biggie. just got to keep measuring correctly and welding appropriately so welds don't pull the measurements out. Sometimes its not good over complicating things. Lot of time wasted for no reason. The unknown can be daunting to some. Its not everyone's cup of tea. Replaced few rails in my time and these are the easiest since. I know some people kringe at damaged cars yes there are butchers out there but also lot of great repairers too not all damaged cars are crap. If fixed properly there is no difference from previously smashed or new car. Also Nato's rails are perfect which makes job lot easier. good job mate. Shopping for goodies still going on. The expense climbs quickly. most of the hard to get stuff is on its way from US and Japan. Got to love the aus $. Still most stuff is coming along nicely.

sorry Gav i don't think its ugliest z ever either. Beside the patriotic paint job and probably prefer bit lower at the front to reduce the gap from tire to arch, its actually a not bad Z.
-
Yeah not too bad, does have a hole but easy fixed. More issues below it. I dont get some people. If doing rust repairs GET RID of the rust than weld a plate over the clean metal if u too slack to flush weld it. Bashing rust in and welding on top just make it worse and problem re appears couple years later. Anyway due to some retard need to rebuild lower part of the skirt and floor area on passenger side. Shouldnt be too hard simple shapes. Still lot more blasting before cutting and welding can start. Yeah ill doubt I sell it Dimitri, like u said heaps of effort. Than again anything is for sale if price is right

Not happy with todays progress. Did manage to remove the seats and dash and some soundeadner. Seem to peel very easy so kept doing it till it got hard. More than half the tunnel done. And the ugly previous repaired passenger side. This will be removed. While i started well this morning and was on schedule as soon as 10:30 arrived was going to start the blaster. But nooooo mother nature decided to piss me off and started bucketing. Was soo cheesed off about rain. 2hrs later i went to dry the tarp from water. Put few fence sheets to stop the limited supply of blasting media flying everywhere. All setup just to put safety gear and hit it. With coarse media was going very well. Bad thing only had small amount of it so run out quick but did sizable area. Than shifted using fine. Results were good but very very slow. . Considering late start did ok. If wasn't for rain I probably would have finished 80% of the engine bay. Oh well tommorow continuation of blasting for few hrs after work. Though feel like I was all day at the beach with strong winds blowing sand everywhere.

Heheh Paul no lime, lime belongs in corona's. Ive seen Micks and your rb26. Nice color but won't fit in with my plans. Gareth yeah they Nato's rails. Fit very well. They are lot stronger than flimsy factory stuff. This baby wont have any issues with bigger engines. No messing with this one full steam ahead. Need it on the road by end of March or im screwed. John few ciders, coronas, pepsi and water. Good wife that feeds me well. No meds. Cannot wait for tommorow. Sick of seeing that multicolored engine bay.

Sorry bud missed ur reply. Sr20 are easy to install. Just need custom engine brackets. At the moment sticking with L series to make life easier getting it of defect. After that its up to the old L. If it pops than ill see if sr20 or rb or rebuild L28 to cope with bit of boost. Wouldn't mind keeping this one oldschool.

More of deconstruction today than construction. Guess it has to get worse before gets better. Some pics. Engine mock up with l26 with efi and turbo straped to it. Drifters learn this is neg camber hahaha Engine bay stripped Rail almost off Both rails and rad support are removed Tommorow quiet removal of interior before i can make noise. After that blaster gets turned on and attacking the front of the car. Than hopefully some rust repairs and getting the new rails fitted. Not easy work but i love it. So good to be working on a Z, specialy on a 240.

1974 Datsun 260z (2 seater) with R34 skyline engine conversion
Fairlady Z replied to Napes94's topic in General Discussions
^^^^Well said Ryan Yes it can be done. Biggest issue is sump and r33/34 gearbox is big requires custom trany mount, old ones remove as they foul.sump a modified patrol or cut and rotated skyline one or if you can find rb20det sump from a z31 200zr. Also need oil pick up. Other bits is fuel system with surge tank requires lift and high pressure pumps. Radiator upgrade can use r32 modded one, or alloy ones from ebay. Exhaust fabrication, intercooler and than wiring. As Thriller said get a write off and transfer everything over. Brakes need upgrading so as diff and driveshaft. Rb25det will destroy the shaft and if diff aint lsd its almost pointless. There are few 240/260z currently being built check member projects. Like said above not hard or expensive if u know what u doing. If not start selling a kiddney or have 10k extra for labour alone. But since you got the v8 you probably got few upgraded stuff on it allready.that will save u a bit in labour and parts. Easier just try get the stuff engineered u allready got. 4l v8 aint that big. Good luck -

nice clean evo. oh Welcome BTW. besides money being one of the differences, size and weight and overall look. easiest to see is google image search 240Z , 260Z 2 seater and 260Z 2+2. popularity seems to lay with the 240z but also demanding highest $$$, @60z 2 seater is a close sibling that more rare than 240z. but do have subtle changes. 2+2 260z also refered to as "bus" (somewhat silly) is the one with 2 small seats behind the front ,some extra 30cm in length and bit of extra pounds. major issue with most people is different roof profile and with me rear 1/4 glass profile. some quick hints to pick the differences stock cars. 240z 260Z 2 Str 260z 2+2 years 70-74 74-77 74-77 engine 2.4L L24 2.6L L26 2.6L L26 Carby Round tops Flat tops Flat tops Front - Identical to 240Z Identical to 240z Side - Identical to 240z longer doors, different 1/4 Wind, Roof profile Rear Integrated reverse Light Separate reverse light Similar to 260z but slightly wider Dash no A/C, more curvy, pods longer Can come with AC bit more square Same as 260z 2 seater other is vented bonnets on later model 260z, 240, never had them. early model 240Z the first 500 or so rust to buggery as they have not been primed between the panels, few differences to later z, like vented hatch lack of pollution gear and rear tool boxes, twin choke and throttle linkage on console etc.... Kinda unicorn car if has other original stuff with it. as time went on they got improved and later ones are better. 260z 2+2 seemed to be more popular in the day than 2 seater and outsold them considerably. Hence why so many 2+2 and cheaper price (slightly) to buy one. Biggest + for me on 260z 2 Seater it looks like 240z but has extra comfort like A/C optional. And its a stronger car. bit heavier. Hope I helped here some pics 240Z 260Z 2 seater 260Z 2+2 240z dash 260Z dash Regardless on which one you choose they all can be made too look extra HOT...... Flared: 240Z 260Z 2+2 ZG style or just nice set of wheels with no flares and clean paint job. whatever your style is the Z have them. Disclamer for pics. Sorry guys if u don't want me to link them but they were best ones. Sorry S30 Mike -

L series bits manifold, turbo, head, badges, valve cover
Fairlady Z replied to Fairlady Z's topic in Wanted
Thanks guys, Yeah was considering top stage console and few other bits hopefully he can do a better deal for me. RetroZ Pm me the price of the console. Sorry after vented calipers. Thanks Pauly on the manifold tip. Was going to fabricate my own using old extractors to suit a T28turbo. not after big hp just a bit of extra kick and to make the right sounds. But a factory one saves lot of fabrication.
