Patch replied to gav240z's topic in Cars For Sale
Found this on Unfinished projects FB he is asking 8-10k with rb20 motor and parts to finish it. Here is his FB page as group is closed https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008778122368&fref=ufi -
What you are asking is all a personal choice on what you want to do with the car, Race it, Sunday sprite around the hills or everyday drive car with trips away, and how you drive, and if you can drive. I personally have always liked both sides of the fence and have different setups for how I want to drive that day, Years ago I raced trikes, I had a TT500 87mm x 84mm,, stroke for everyday riding and tours though the country and track racing, I also had a wild CR250 for racing only 70mmx 64.4mm in a race against the TT500 I could lap it in a 6 lap race on the CR250, but I would use 4 times the fuel and heaps more fun, but you have to know how to ride in the power band. Today I have a ZXR750 71mm x 47.3mm and a Harley 1340cc with a 88.8mm x 107mm, The Harley is a good bike for group riding and tours away, The ZXR750 is a race bike that I ride alone for a kick zip around the hills to put a big smile on your face and only suitable for small rides and you have to know how to drive it to keep it in the power band. I also have a 306 Peugeot convertible that has 2.0L 86mm x 82.7mm again a great car to whip around the hills take the dog for a drive to put a smile on your face, The wife hates this car as it is close ratio and she can't drive it to get the maximum out of it to keep it in it's power band, she will be taking the hill in 4th instead of 2nd and wonder why she stalled so she prefers the Renault Scenic 2.0L 82mm x 93mm great family car around town and trips away and can go up the hill in 4th, Lazy drive. I bought my 240Z back in 1986 and a 260z 2+2 in 1992, I put the motor out of my 240z into the 2+2 and I was amazed at how different the car was, a lot more fun to drive. With putting in a high lift cam I bought a MK3 Zephyr 2.5L 82.5mm x 79.5mm off my Brother in-law about 1980 with a full race cam, it was fun to drive on a race track but a absolutely nightmare to drive around town, I ended up replacing it back to a sports style. Just for a bit of info The RB26 has 86mm x 73.7mm which is the same as a L28 with a 240 crank in it. It is all what do you want.

If you want to drive it and have a smile on your face, keep it L24, If you want a family car and eat a burger and shake while driving thd 28 crank will give you the same boring motor as the 260 was. If you go L28 or L26 you will have to spend a lot of money to put a smile on you face.

Yes, that is 2 of the 3 The 2 plus 2 is too far gone but the front is fine for the race shell still to come

Sad to see Linton rain on your parade Rick but that is life, there is always one, If you have any feelings you are being scramed, I am more than willing to refund you the full amount and the cars can stay here, on another note they are all packed up and ready to go. Cheers Dave.
-
Interesting why you would think it is a scram, how would that work, clearly he has seen the cars in person and not just pictures, so how would the scram work from there.

As a business owner I share his frustrations dealing with people who have no idea what they want, We run a Embroidery business, I have lost count of how many times people have asked for a quote on some embroidery with out sending me a picture of what they want, so I normally ask them how long to do you think it will take to sew, 10mins or 4 hours, how long to you think it will take me to set up and digitize, 10min or 4 hours, if you can't tell me, how am I meant to quote you with out seeing what you want, After sending 4 emails I would piss you off as well, sometimes you can make more money not dealing with some people. A guy on FB the other night wanted to know how much is a 300z worth.it took 4 reply's and all I got from him was a z32 2seater, still none of the main stuff you need to know.so I cut of,f not worth the time and frustration.

As a example of the market going up here is a good example sold in 2012 for $14k this could probably get 20-25k now, how much will it cost to get it there. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/8593-nsw-77-260z-22-l28-w-45mm-webers-tokico-illuminas/ After looking at it again I see he kept it
-
A 2+2 goes for about half price of the 2 seaters, all depends on finished condition, we have had some sell for 25k for a 2+2 which was a high price so they are coming up, at the moment a 2+2 is not really in the highly collectable market yet, but your one sounds a good buy at 2k.
-
2+2 are a lot heavier in the steering compared to the 2 seater, has your wife driven one, I have one that needs restoring my lady told me if I restored it for her she will not be driving it again, it may have been fine years ago before every car had power steering but once they have had power steering they don't wont to go back, I bought a 306 pug sports car convertible that she wanted she only drove it 2ks and pulled over and said she can't drive it it is to heavy in the steering, yet this has power steering.
-
I have 8/71 #01051 which has the tool boxes The early race car also has tool boxs, that is 600 something or 800 something, Matts car.

This is the steering box, it is on it's side as beast has rear steering with motor in back. In it's better days. Personally I think it is to much work to remove and replace, for the little money you would like to buy it for, it has been sitting for over 12 years like this, so I would say it would need rebuilding if used on the road, there is a whole car on Gumtree for $600 in Tassy, maybe keep looking, also place on GT wrecking 280c's If I decide to rebuild this or wreck I will remove the box then and strip for inspection, I don't like to sell not knowing how bad it maybe inside.
-
I will have a look at it tomorrow been a while since I seen or used it, it is grown over with bushes, I will need to see it still turns it would be 10 years, I will take a photo to show what I have, I used the whole steering column as well, but I never hooked up the hydlualics. that was always coming later but never happened. I have a 82 F100 and 85 Nissan parol here so will see how hard it would be to use one of them to replace it.
-
I just done a quick search, there is no 280a the box I have is 280c same as the one on e-bay for $2500, which has been cleaned and painted. which fit early F100, I was also told they fit early Nissan patrols as well, it is the same as my 85 patrol I have sitting in my yard. which is manual as I was looking at changing that to power steering years ago, it looked like it would bolt straight up.
-
Best you keep looking then, not worth my while to remove and replace with something else for $500.00
-
Didn't know they made a 280a, but I have a 280c power steering box bolted on to a 4x4 farm crane fork lift beast I built years ago, It has not been used for years and was thinking about getting it going again, If this steering box is worth a lot of money, how much will you pay, as I would have to fit another steering box, .pretty sure the rest of the pump is there as well.
