  1. Hi NatRat, condolence on your loss, Seeing the guys are busy fixing their cars I will give you a quick answer. Before any one can help you we need to know a few things like, 1) how bad is the car rust whys, do you have pictures 2) how much of this work can you do your self. 3) how much money would you like to spend. 4) Is the car worth rebuilding or are you better to buy one already done. Some members have spent 42k rebuilding a 260z 2+2 if you put it on the market as one I seen on e-bay fully restored 2 weeks ago it did not get a bid for 12k. a rusted car may cost up to 20k to fix the rust. A good paint job could cost 5k + a motor rebuild could cost 2k to 20k depending what you want to do. Again how much do you want to spend.???
  2. I have been welding for 35 years tried some of them auto helmets different brands and I don't like them I always get sore eyes because they don't react fast enough for me, I just buy the cheap standard helmets and just flip it down with a nod of the head.and I use safety glasses when grinding.
  3. Welcome Bolts, The biggest difference you will notice if you get a chance to drive both is the 240z has a shorter stroke crank which makes the car fly and throw you back in the seat, likes to rev and is great fun to drive, the car will do 125mph standard and runs out of horsepower not revs, small mods brings it up to 145mph and 6.0 sec 0-60mph going by my book. The 260z has the same bore but larger stroke crank, huge difference in performance and great for the wife and kids but nowhere near as fun to drive. The 280z has the same stroke as the 260 but bigger bore, just a big pig of a motor and used for the 4x4 Nissan patrols, I have no idea why some one would want to put one of these into a 240z. Mind you all the parts are interchangeable and have read you can make a 280 quick with a 240 crank and rods. All motors came with forged steel cranks and good rods , the 240z has huge racing history and will be the more collectable one to buy. If you check Redbook you will see a 240z is worth 3 times its new price while a 260z is worth the same as new price. Tail lights have a huge difference in replacement costs.

  17. Good read +1 on the Little Beaver spay unit , would have worn out about 10 units now over the years, great for doing onsite steel work, we used to use them to paint all the steel beams for structural steel buildings, I have done a great job painting a boat in 2 pak and 2 pak hand rails inside a building, they cause very small amounts of over spray compared to a compressor gun if you have no spray booth. They will not push though to thick paint or under seal which a low pressure gun is best with a compressor.
  18. I see he has this yellow and black V8 240z as well, I see he has had them both advertised since October last year. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/1971-Datsun-240Z-SPORTS-Yellow-3sp-Coupe-/170559071707?pt=AU_Cars&hash=item27b61ce5db I have been looking at both for a few weeks was considering my self flying down to have a look, I would be interested in any reports on either. email . davava2001@yahoo.com

  20. I got caught by a car Stealer with my purchase of my 240z back in 1987, it looked fantastic in the lot nice new paint, the car had been sitting there for along while as well with a heavy price on it, back then it was $7k, I crawled all over it and it looked real good, if only I had gone over it with a fridge magnet before I offered him 4.5k for it as it was. I could not believe that somebody would go to all the trouble of bogging the underside and all the other major parts, the door sill were filled with that spray foam and then filed and bogged, The car could have broken in half just behind the seats. None of the rust repairs had been fixed with steel welding. Even had sliver air conditioning tape over the rust holes. I spent months fixing this, It would have been far easier to have scrapped it then, to pay somebody to do what I did I could have bought a new car.
  21. The T-Top design was a copy of one of these .
  22. I actually know Greg and have meet him before, No he didn't turn up with a 65 Colt, why would some one want one of them Lol. Now he didn't want to give me $300 for the lot and my son in law living with us would not have given me $50 for the lot but he is still upset when mine pissed all over his worked Vk Group A, he had no idea how fast they are. But beautry is in the eye of the beholder, I have his 67Chev Impala in the garage, he has spent about 100k on it, doesn't use it more than about 3 times a year costs too much to start it and take it for a run, I personally would not pay 5k for it and would not want it if it was left to me. As I told Greg if the 260z 2+2 did not have the motor for the 240z in it , it would have gone to scrap steel years ago, I am blown away looking in here seeing some people spending 42k on one. nice looking car. I had come to the conclusion that an original 240z would never really come collectable like the phase 3 falcons etc and believe you could make it worth more by making it nicer looking, my intentions for the T- Top was to make the car look like this and is why I kept it all these years. Looking around the site makes me wonder if I did the right thing selling it. They are anice looking car.
  23. Deposit has been made, currently off the market. site unseen by new owner you have to be quick to get a good bargain Thanks for the use of your web site Cheers Patch
  24. Just an update from my introduction thread, Just had a quick look over as have not looked at for years and a bit of history. The 240z is a 1971 has 35k on the speedo build #01051 I came from NZ in 1986 where a 240z was worth a bit of money about 20k, I found a real nice one that was in a car sales for a long time he wanted 7k for it, wheels had been stolen and I got it for 4.5k. Sole intentions to restore it and wait till they became collectable, drove it for a year and had a lot of fun with it. I stripped it down and sand blasted it, what looked like an easy project was a nightmare, car had been filled with foam and bog was rotten in alot of parts and was tossing then if it was worth all the work. I replaced the floor, door sills and most places that these cars rust in, I pulled the motor down and found it in very good nickand only replaced bearings and seals so the 35k that it has on the speedo may be for real. I built a tee top into the roof and kept it register so it would not be a problem for Reg. The car was place on a spit and completely done over every thing , fire wall painted and stuff put back in body was straighten and under coated, I had a panel beater working on it and all his work needs to be redone as the bog and putty is pealing off, the rust is only surface rust and not rotten, a clean up down to bear steel again is needed and the tee top finished or welded back up. all parts where checked over and done up and painted. The rebuilt motor was placed into my daily ride the 260z 2+2 that car has not been going for approx 10 years now, the 240 was last going in about 1989 and that was when the work was done, business went bad and I couldn't afford to finish it. about the only parts missing would be the wind screen and back window, may be still around but the front screen got broken. The front dash was reskin ed. The 260z is 1975, rotten in the main areas where they go but repairable. it contains the 240z motor so would need to be sold together, The 260z 2+2 would be worth nothing compared to the 240z drove heaps faster with the 240 motor in it and I only kept it because I am too lazy to take the motor out but I have seen a few do like them here. I may still have the 260 motor in a machine I built. Not really sure what they are worth in the condition they are in. was thinking say 3k for both and I would be happy to let them go. Cheers Patch (07) 55 306 151
  25. Hi all, just found this site and have just joined up, I go by the name Patch as I do the computer graphics for embroidery patches. I have a 240 z and a 260z 2+2 both in bad conditioned have have been stored for many years, I have been waiting for them to come collectable and have given up and have decided to sell. The 240z is about 71 I think sand blasted it many years ago and it was full of rust I replaced all the rust and started to build a open Tee top, business went bad and I put it aside for a few years, Motor was done up and was driving it in the 260z 2+2 until the rust in that put it off the road. That car has been though a flood, not sure if the motor is still all right, that motor is mating numbers for the 240z body. I don't have much in the way of details at the moment and will get back with photos and start another thread in the for sale part. Daughter has my camera and away at the moment will post when she gets back from Holidays. Cheers Patch Dave.
