  1. I had a similar problem years ago when the cheap Chinese copy's were coming in. the cam follower was soft plastic and would only last a week, look for good sets or you can upgrade to electronic sets , normally on e-bay.
  2. So you are happy with the look of the bus or 2+2 which you can fit 5 adults and suit cases into it, but they won't be happy, things change then, you can buy them for at least half the price, here is an example of a rust bucket 2+2, you could pick something like this up for $1200.+, it is worth at least that because the front can be used to restore the 2 seaters, I have one sitting in my shed a little bit worse waiting to be cut up. As an example on resale between this and Scooters 2 seater with a paint job you wouldn't want to be seen in, if you spent 20K on both and done your engine change and a nice paint job, the resale on the 2+2 it would climb to about 10k- 14k with you doing all the work on the rust, if you paid someone like Scooter to fix it you would spend all your 20k on the rust and it would be worth about 5k as you have ran out of money to paint and engine change, where the 2 seater that Scooter is selling will climb from your purchase price of 10k it would go to 25k- 45k depending how good the paint job is. Nothing wrong with the 2+2, they still get up and go and handle fine I had one for years as a daily driver until the rust got it, but the lady was happy to not see it back on the road again, they are a lot heavier in the steering and gave her sore arms after driving a modern car with PS she said if I fixed it she will not be driving it again. http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Datsun-260Z-1975/SSE-AD-3275870?utm_campaign=Auto360&utm_medium=display&utm_source=Auto360&utm_content=banner&WT.seg_4=Auto360 Here is a nice one with some rust coming though after a nice paint job. This has a RB30 and wants 11k. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/blacktown/cars-vans-utes/260z-rb30-turbo/1072967438?utm_source=criteo&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=LF-automotive&mpch=ads Here is another nice one that needs rust repairs, after the nice paint job, he wants 12k but says he has photos of work before paint. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/sydney-region/cars-vans-utes/datsun-260z-240z-registered-restored/1067587076
  3. Reminds me of my beautiful rust free new respray 240z I bought off a car sales in 1986 it had been sitting for a while and not selling and the wheels got stolen off it,They wanted 7k for it then but I got them down to 4.5k thinking I was getting a good deal telling them I wanted to restore it, the work was so well done it completely fooled me, a year later the bubbles started to show and while doing some work on it I stood in the wheel well and fell though it, I had a look under carpets that were glued down and found more cover up so I stripped the car down to do a full restoration and took it to the sand blasters, On picking it up I was not sure what to do with it, Dump it or fix it, the floors had steel signs used as flooring to stop your feet going though the floor, it had spray foam in the dog legs and sills, wire mesh and bog in the other places where the rust was, there was not much stopping the car from breaking apart from the rust, someone had spent a lot of time to doctor it up, yet it wouldn't have taken much more to weld it up with steel, without full photos and proof the car has been done correctly you maybe buying your self a nightmare as well. You could easily pay 20k for a car like that now today.
  4. How good is this, Not sure if you can see if not on FB. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10155380850230112&pnref=story
  5. As a 53 year old, if money was no object if this above modified car was in the same concourse condition as this example Gav posted, which has matching # 240z , it would be hard for me to decide which one to go for, so to me the modifications would not devalue the car for me, I would be happy with both. http://www.carsales.com.au/private/details/Datsun-240Z-1970/SSE-AD-2694715/?Cr=0
  6. Thanks Karl, I can't believe how hard it has been either, but don't worry I have had my fair share of the one's wanting a Zed car contact me as well, It is all my fault if I had of had the cars ready for nice photo shots and ready to drive on a trailer for the 4k for the 3 cars they would have been sold by now, as that is what most expected. At the moment I have given up trying to sell them and I am not far from walking so might be able to start back in the shed again so will get them ready for the photo shoot that they all what photo's of. When a man says he is going to do a job, you don't need to remind him every 6 months to do it, so no reminders please.
  7. I have had a few e-mails asking about photos of the other cars, so I will answer them all here, I offered a deal to Adam and others for 4k for the lot as they have been messaging me for years, as per this add it shows pictures of the race car that could be repaired by un-stitching the left front and replace with parts off a 2+2 I have, the other car is a complete matching #240z which was partly restored in 1989 which I cut a T-Top into it, full strip down and sand blasting, put on a spit and floors, dog legs and other rust parts replaced, I painted all parts and started putting back together, I had a mate who's brother convinced me he was a panel beater and he filled it up with bog and spay putty, when I seen it I was not happy and sacked him, I wanted a panel beater not a bog filler, so the car was left as work when bad, the car has been sitting in a shed since then, it needs the roof replaced as that was a bad decision back then to do a T-Top, that is why I bought the race car for the roof, the race car is to good to cut up, the matching # motor was rebuilt and placed in my daily driver 2+2, that car is complete and very rusty in the back, only suitable for parts car. So I wanted 3k for the race car, that would make for an extra 1k and they would of got A complete matching number 1052 car with a re-skinned dash,, needs a roof and a few new rust repairs on the back hatch and corner of rear guard's A 100% complete 2+2 that has the 240z motor in it and complete air con, and the seats from the 240, it is a rust bucket at the back but front is fine for parts for the race car. There was a complete L280c motor sitting in the shed as well. The 1052 car is sitting in a shed with flat tires, for me to take photos I would need to move the car to get around it, so I would need to clean the shed up to make room, no point taking photos of a dusty car, so while I am at that I might as well clean all the junk out of the car that doesn't belong there, while I am doing that I might as well grind all the flaking filler off and clean the surface rust off, seeing the T-Top looks unsightly now, I might as well cut that off also. I can use the roof off the 2+2 to make this complete, so might as well start cutting up the 2+2. People don't like the idea of to many cars so I will need to take the motor out of the 2+2, while I am doing that I might as well clean it up so it looks nice in a photo, might as well put in back in the matching car to make it easy for transport, might as well take the seats, and windscreen out of the 2+2 and put that with the 1052 car, that will make that 99% complete, so to make it 100% I should of bought a pressure plate, that has gone missing. Seeing the motor still turns over I might as well get that going. Since I am going to clean all the rust off to make a nice photo, I had better put an undercoat on it as well to stop it rusting again. So as you can see trying to sell 3 Zd's car is not easy, to make things worse I have a broken hip, so please all the people that want nice photo's taken the cars will be taken off the market until I can get those nice photos for you.
  8. As a sports car I would not look at a auto at all, so converted to manual is a + for me, the value of the car depends on what someone is willing to pay, but as a guide I am 53 If I had the money I would pay twice the price for the Blue one mentioned than yours, On your yellow green car, I don't like the colour, the painted bumpers, the front spoiler, and looks like it has a rolled edge on the front of bonnet, not keen on the L28 and the 300zx seats it is meant to have, I don't mind the wheels. The blue one, l like the colour, the wheels are fine, it looks better with the chrome bumpers, I like it has the matching engine and triples, I don't mind the front spoiler, if I seen both of these at a car show, I would spend 5mins looking at yours, and yours and the wife would have to drag me away from the Blue one. As a guide on other cars mentioned, I would be happy with a well done RB, I would pay more if it had the matching # motor under the bench, best of both worlds, The rotary I would have a good look at probably be interested in a drive, but don't think I would buy one,
  9. As an example of a modified car being worth more than a standard car we have this car thanks to a movie, I seen a doco on these and they are now building new ones made to order with all sorts of drive lines, they are worth huge amounts of money compared to the GT500 they were based from.
  10. When my lady came back from holiday she walked past my new sports bike for 3 days parked beside my other one while she was using the washing machine, it was only when my mate who I bought it off said something about me buying more motorbikes while she was away, she said "like hell he is", we both laughed then he told her I already had it, she said "no he hasn't" and she walked passed it for 3 days. Still have both bikes. Forgiveness is easier than permission.
  11. Your funny, thinking some pictures of 2 rusted cars and a smashed up race car will change her mind, Forgiveness is easier to get than permission, If I was going to keep the cars the 2+2 would be cut up for the parts for the race car as the front is fine for it, the roof of the 2+2 I was going to use on the matching # 1051 car making a complete one using the hatch and back sides off the old roof. so there will be only 2 cars to store both being 240z's The #1051 car only needs the roof replaced and the back hatch panel, and some small rust repairs that have shown up on the back corners of rear guards, the rest is only surface rust that will clean up with a disk. The matching motor still turns and dash has been re-skinned. I have no photos on this computer and I am sure they may be lost when my office one went down, will take some when I get a chance.
  12. Funny I was thinking of you today, felt sorry for that guy to piss you around like that, I have done nothing and been thinking about keeping them and sorting out when I get walking again, not sure how long that will be. Seeing you were interested in these years ago, even though you never came to see them, I will make you a one time offer, you can have the lot for 4k, but you only have till next Sunday to put a deposit on them. After that I will keep them.
  13. I can't confirm if this has been done, Matt owned the car for 20 years and had it as a road car he maybe able to bring some light into it, But I have just looked inside the rear quarters and there is the same pressed inner hollow cup the same as my #1052 car, if the holes were welded up the back of welds will be hidden inside the pressing, do the early cars have that same pressed steel cup there where the vent should be. BTW my 8/71 #1052 has compliance plates.
  14. The race shell I bought off Matt is 0672 and it has no vents in rear quarters, and I remember him saying it came with air vents in hatch, it also has tool boxes.

  16. I am not looking for one Allan, the other 2 are, I ended up buying Matts race shell back years ago for the roof, that's why I didn't buy his, I was looking at $300 freight as well.
  17. When I was looking for one I found one here, he wanted $1050.00 for it years ago, not sure if he still has it but it is still in the photo of bonnets. http://www.sportsclassic.com.au/Parts/?bid=103&mid=43&aid=7
  18. I have been reading it is getting hard for a small replacement brake booster for the 240, just found these on e-bay they are sold new for Hot rods, maybe worth a look if they would fit. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BRAKE-BOOSTER-8-INCH-DUAL-DIAPHRAGM-MASTER-CYL-GROOVED-TOP-1-INCH-BORE-CHROME-/251311328291?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item3a83528c23 [/img]
  19. Sorry removed offer.
  20. Still got mine, just taken off the market at the moment, as the deal was too big and cheap and scared people off, I am still not walking but getting closer, so may decide to keep them yet. While I was looking at repairing mine before I bought the race shell for the roof, I can't see why you couldn't use the roof off a 2+2, they are the same shape up to where the hatch is on the 240 as I had my old roof cuts sitting on it, I was looking at just cutting and welding the 2+2 roof and joining them at the corner of the hatch and windscreen with a 90 deg edge that can be cleaned up easy, and hide the weld in the gutter on the sides.
  21. Car sold for top price. Winning bid: AU $10,400.00 [ 44 bids ]
  22. Good price. Winning bid: AU $10,400.00 [ 44 bids ]
  23. Triple Webbers and cannon manifold to fit 260 or 240 on e-bay, sorry can't copy link on this computer, pick up only, Woodford Blue mountains, no reserve at $800.00 and 3 days to go, if you look at his other stuff he has a re-skinned 260 dash, Roll cage, twin remote oil filter, taillights race seats and other stuff
  24. Sump and oil pick up can be changed with his 260 motor, colour can be changed, carbs can be changed to the 240 ones. Stroke is personal preference, my wife likes the longer stroke in the soccer van, which is our daily driver and hates the short stroke in the sports car she wanted, both cars are 2.0L, The dog and myself like the convertible and I find it fun to drive, it drives like a go cart and need to change gears more, but it is heaps more fun to drive so we are keeping it. I like to have a mix with my toys, my Harley touring bike is 1340cc 2 cylinder big stroke touring bike, it is fine for 2 up and touring or social club rides, when I want a fun ride I take my ZXR750 4 cylinder short stoke race rocket and ride by myself. My 4x4 I am happy with the long stroke. each to there own and how you drive.
  25. Just for suggestions for a cheap way out and have a fun car to drive, There is a rebuilt L24 motor on Gumtree near Newcastle, guy says he spent 5k on it not running yet, will take 2k or neg, not far for a weekend pickup. I would prefer a short stroke L24 rocket to a L26 or L28 tractor long stroke slug that you have to spend heaps of money on just to make it fun to drive.
