Not quite. Vacuum advance actually retards the timing when you step on the throttle hard to avoid pre detonation. When you are light on the throttle (with lots of manifold vacuum) the vacuum advance kicks in advancing the timing significantly giving better fuel economy.

Thanks PB. What about when you remove the ballast resistor, say when you are running a 280ZX dizzy and coil?

Hi Guys, It's well documented that S30 headlights are dim due to resistance from the cars fuse box and factory wiring and that using a relay to get power directly from the battery makes a big difference. Could this be done with the power wire going the ignition coil and would this be a way of getting a greater ignition spark? Just a thought...... Cheers,

The C-pillar brace is obviously a new addition to TTT's stock. I wonder if they actually stiffen up the chassis a bit?? Definitely looks cool.

I have painted this part many times. Is the whole tailight / garnish combo off the car? There are nuts that have to be removed from inside the hatch area to do this.

I have the MSA adjustable ones on my front. They are great as long as they are kept neutral. If you adjust for greater camber then the polyurethane bulges out the side (yes I didn't over torque them). I would consider swapping or buying these off you outright. I no longer have the original strut tops.

Not all zed drivers are race car drivers. The OP was asking about L6 mods, power and cost effectiveness. Nothing to do with lap times on the track. That means, I agree with Luvemfast.

Thanks for the support and kind words guys. I am shocked too at the difference it has made. I used plasti dip Vaughn. It's a rubber coating that I can peel off anytime, so there was no risk. Since I prefer it this way, one day I will spray them with actual paint. Let's see how long the dip lasts.....

Yes, the back is sitting higher than normal as I just took it off the jack and hasn't settled. I have a set of coilovers to be fitted also, so I can get it sitting just right.

Decided to lose the polished lip on my watanabe's and go charcoal. I think it looks more "retro Japanese" now and less "street machineish". I used palsti-dip, so all reversible if i change my mind.

It is definitely RHD. The picture is inverted. You can see the SU carb in the engine bay on the other side.

Don't even think about Monroe Mick. I think Lurch was being sarcastic. I had them in my zed years ago and they lasted only 6 months. After that they were totally shot. I then changed them over to Koni Red which were excellent ($700 for all 4) but not externally adjustable. I now have the Tokico illuminas in mine which are externally adjustable and are pretty good. You can get them off ebay in the US for way less than $1k. You can come and see how they ride in my zed with Kings lows if you want.

Yeah, I had a chat to Peter MC earlier in the week and he believes that L-series motors do best with a good mineral oil versus synthetics. He recommended Castrol Edge 25w-50 which is the only mineral oil in the Castrol Edge range. This viscosity is in line with what the factory recommends for L-series motors too. I can't comment on its ZDDP content because they do not disclose it and google searches have revealed nothing.

I agree that if done right with tasteful period mods, they may actually add value. Doesn't matter if 240Z or 260Z. But really, value only matters if the car is up for sale. If you plan to keep your car forever or pass it onto your kids, then dollar value is irrelevant.

The Penrite 10 tenths range has at least 2200ppm ZDDP which is nearly double the Penrite HPR range. Ie 0.1% zinc vs 0.2%. http://www.penriteoil.com.au/products-categ.php?id_categ=1&id_brand=3 No oils listed in this thread match that in zinc content. What info are you referring to that makes you want 1%+? I haven't found any motor oil with zinc more than 0.2%.
