Sorry Scotty , but I gave you a bum steer with regards to no reading when connecting a multi meter to disconnected Neg grnd battery wire & Neg terminal on battery , you will get a reading of about 12.7 volts which comes via the vltge gauge which operates at all times . Unless you have one that is wired up different . Regards : Alan .
-
G'day Scotty , if you have trouble with anything give me a call on mob #0405 291 467. Might be easier to talk you thru it . Regards : Alan .

Suggest you don't power up dimmer unit as it is a ground control set up . The green/white stripe wire that runs to your gauges is the power circuit , check you have supply there by using a test light set up or your multi meter . The dimmer has a internal resistor which sometimes breaks down which means it wont work. Try to disengage the connection point just near the back of the dimmer & connect a wire into the two sections of the connector itself that leads from the dimmer unit to the gauge lights , should be a red /blue stripe from memory .Just been thru this myself. PS : Check that you have no shorts by disconnecting your battery Negative cnctn then set your multi meter to read up to 20volts , connect one end to the Negative wire off battery & the other multi terminal to the battery Neg trmnl . You should get a Zero reading anything other than that means problems . Also if you look at page 7 in the electrical section of the Forum you will find a wiring diagram that is very helpful . Regards: Alan.

280Zx Blowing Blue Smoke On Acceleration
zeds4ever replied to Captain Slow's topic in General Maintenance
What colour is the smoke , if its grey'ish it's oil , if its black'ish then its petrol possible choke not operating properly in conjunction with primer fuel injector. Check the exhaust for fluid emission , if significant possible head gasket also check oil filler cap for milky colour along with radiator cap for oil traces . Lastly pull spark plugs out & check for fouling as sometimes if they foul up they will not burn all fuel in chamber & naturally this then finishes up in the exhaust. Other than that best of luck . Tacho Isnt Working, 260Z 1977 Wiring Diagram
zeds4ever replied to Lach450's topic in Electrical systems
On page six (6) in the electrical section there is a complete wiring diagram that NZeder posted to help me out some time ago . By the way did you take the resistor out that was originally fitted for the points dissy as this can cause problems , it was intended to reduce the voltage when starting up to protect the points set up & is not required for electronic igntn which is a full 12vlt set up, also using a stronger coil helps . When I set my 280ZX dissy up in my 76 260Z the tacho worked fine . Regards : Alan . -
Sorry I didn't find it earlier for you mate , just happened to stumble on it today . Regards : Alan .

Just received word back from Seatbelt King in Melbourne that he is unable to rebuild my seat belt units for me , I wish to retain the same set up as these so can anyone please advise me on what I can use as a alternative . They bolt onto the top of the rear strut tower units & the strap passes thru a bar set up which bolts to the side of the door pillar. Last piece to finish my car so would appreciate any help . Regards: Alan .

Hi Peter , why would you need to change the shape as they should just switch over , as from what I've looked at on my 260/S30 there is provision for a left hand set up as well & both are the same distance apart. Regards : Alan .
