I had to laugh at first when I read that post, but for all the right reasons. But first thanks to Gordo for putting us with us all again, well done and a big thank you to you and your wife. Now, why did I laugh ? Guys lets take this theme viral Instead of chopping the top, lets crop the rear, extend the front, get a better weight distribution and stick a dirty quad turbo Peter Mc built V12 in the front then dress it up with flared guards and a deep front airdam.

This is so wrong in more ways than one. If you look closely the cut has been done at the bottom end of the window pillars, hence bringing the A pillar back and inwards, how you are supposed to get a door gap to the pillar is incomprehensible and that can be seen by how the window frame on the door has been manipulated to try and achieve just that, I doubt you would ever get the windows to operate again. Bar this the fact that the pillars would now be some 40 mm inwards and back would mean that the dash would need to be reworked. When doing a chop like this, the turret must be sectioned diagonally along the length and width therefore maintaining the pillar positions, as the turret therefore goes down to the new pillar height each sectioned corner moves outward, finally fillet sections are laid into the voids. Only this way can the window pillars and door symmetry be maintained.

Peter as Mick stated it wouldn't be worth the hassle, you could use 2 seater doors, but it would mean taking the better part of 15cm's out of the roof and sectioning it. The rest of the sectioning on the sills and floor would have to be done to the degree I mentioned previously. The reason I know about cutting and shutting a Zed is because I did it on my panel shop partners 260z 20 years ago after he wiped off the front and we found a doaner front end.

Everything back of the firewall is a different dimension. On the floor pan just before the upward bend to the firewall there is a seam that runs across from one inner sill to the other, these spot welds are released to allow the 2 seater rear to be welded in place. The sills need to be sectioned at least 70mm back from the floor seam on the inner side, and another 70mm on the outer side to meet repair industry standards, if there is an inner reo the the reo needs to be sectioned 70mm back fro the inner cut and the outer 70mm from the center cut to create a stagered or step section, butt welding the sill sections together is structurally unsound and is not passable. This 70mm staggering is the minimal measurements between sections, the longer the staggard cuts the better. The window pillars have to be done the same way as discribed with the sills. And if the rails cannot be released for a cut section with the rear cut, then the same stagering procedure needs to be done. Hope this helps.

Ben I don't want to make excuses, BUT............... Of the past 4 weeks I have been away from home each week on business only really coming home for the weekends starting off with a week in Brisbane, followed by a week in Darwin, then 3 days in Sydney and finally Adelaide for 3 days last week, got home Friday night and ended up putting up a Marquis for Marcus' 14th birthday last night, , that's the reason I havn't been on line apart from trying via my Blackberry and nothings been happening. Of course this coming Saturday is the BBQ but hopefully slowly but surely in the coming weeks. Fingers crossed !

Good find Scoota, Actually i think it could be restored as is into a good looking car, the only thing that dosn't work are the tail lamps now otherwise I agree its hard to look away. Would look and be even more appealing if you could get a hardtop made like the one's Triumph Stags ran.
