  1. Interesting My Aug 76 build 260 Z was definitely was fitted with brass valve seats and I found them to be recessed badly after years of driiving on ULP (even with with using lead replcement additive) ............We installed hardened valve seats when we rebuilt the engine . May be only late L26's (after 76) had hardened valve seats ?............mine definitley did not.
  2. Call Trev at Brighton Nissan..........new bonnets available ex Japan - vented bonnet $750
  3. Vent hose still available thru Nissan Japan ............if you know the replace part number ?? Lou Mondello sourced mine thru his Nissan contacts............give him a call 9555 9591
  4. The crank case vent is located on the left side of the block below #1 exhaust port, there should be a short tube fitted to this outlet . You can see it here with the vent hose attached just to the right of the vacuum advance pot on the dizzy, the grey pipe with the braided hose attached running to the underside of the air box.
  5. Give Russell Pilven a call at Tire Power in Essendon...........Russell sprints a very quick 510 and does a good deal on the Toyo's
  6. Try Jason Lea (Dat2kman).....I think he had a couple for sale and he is in QLD
  7. Yep I bought one from the guys in QLD early last year...........on arrival the bar looked great and was the correct shape..........until I turned in over and found that in had no mounting plates welded inside I called the seller and told me to "weld some in" ..............what a joke..........the seller said that he deals in Mazda parts so did not know what to look for .......I shipped it back for a refund however it still cost me the $40 return freight. The new batch apparently have the mounts welded in .............ask lots of questions and get some more photos before buying
  8. This was my post on the subject on the Ozdat forum "At risk of copping a big spray............here is my take on the subject:- Quite simply- It has been left to three clubs to host these events, the NDSOC (which initiated the "all invited" format in 2001) and the QLD and Sydney Z club.............no other club is yet to host an event of this scale. For all the p1ss1ng and moaning and ridicule coming from owners of "Non Zeds" (lets not get precious about the word "other") I am yet to see anyone actually step up and volunteer to organise a National event of this size and complexity.I have been heavily involved in organising the last two Nationals with the NDSOC (2001 and 2007) and the amount of effort required is enormous (and we are all volunteers remember) ...........the ridicule coming from those (a very small minority) who do nothing constructive to assist in the planning or execution of the event is positively draining and make us organisors wonder why we bother in the first place. In summary, I think I can safely say that the vast majority of the entrants to the last two Nationals came away with a great experience and all this talk over logos and perceived Zed bias is simply narrow minded nonsense.............you get out what you put in...........and those who ridicule and complain almost never "put in" . So I congratulate the QLD and Sydney clubs for embracing the "all welcome" format of the Nationals and persevering "in the face of adversity" , for those who feel the need to rubbish the event.........step up and show us all how it should be done. And ask yourself the question If any other club hosted this event (510, Skyline, etc) ...........would there not be a bias towards that particular vehicle that the club caters for ...........I think the answer would be "yes of course" Alan Fildes Life Member NDSOC
  9. Guys........go here for the prices (I paid $750 usd for mine in July 2008 so prices may have moved depending upon availability) Be wary of the "completely rebuilt" as mine did require some further cleaning and gaskets on closer inspection and testing of the accelerator pumps -so be preparred to strip them down and inspect. http://wolfcreekracing.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=16&Itemid=25 Alan
  10. Mossy I sourced mine from Wolf Creek racing in the US, with the Aussie Dollar at 92 cents you should be able to land a good set of triple 44's on a manifold with linkages for around $750 - $800 USD depending opun what they have in stock.
  11. Thanks Guys Rob in Adelaide has a good grill and I think I've found a hightlight bucket that has not been repaired before. I tried Nissan but no luck with headlight buckets.........nil stock for years............lucky thay have new bonnets ex Japan My Zed is insured for $30k with Shannons so no problem there (just the $500 exess and bloody inconvenience) . The bumper is repairable so the major hammer work is the radiator support and drivers side inner guard, I will now get the car sent to Hardy Kuln Restos on Lillydale............he has done some magnificent Roadster restos (including Gavin Cox's white Sports 2000 that wins outright the every year ).........this is his first Zed but I'm sure it is in good hands and will come back as new . I just need to find another Jap spec "Z" bonnet badge Alan
  12. Hi Guys Courtesy of a stupid F@#k1#g women deciding to stop at a green light. ............I now have around $8-9k of front end damage to my Zed. Does anyone have a r/h handlight bucket (metal) and grill they may wish to part with ? First prang I have ever had in my Zed in 21 years of ownership............. :'( Car is now back at Rankins restos , damage to bonnet (new one ordered from Nissan), r/h headlight bucket, bumper, radiator support and r/d inner guard.................I was just thinking the other day that it needed a bonnet respray due to the stone chips.........well this certainly solved that issue Alan
  13. Dont risk used brake lines, 35 + years old the rubber ages and hardens........... either get them made as Dimitri has suggested or buy geniune.........I believe these are still available from Nissan
  14. Great result ! So maybe some of the "so called bad experiences some have had " may be due to expectations rather than actions ?
  15. Daniel Thanks for the vitriolic PM's however I have no idea how I have upset you (again) . I simply agreed that I had once bought a gearbox from Z Spares and it was great and that whilst I may have paid a little too much for work in the past (20 years ago) Lindsay has been nothing but helpful with parts and advice over the past 10 years. So again I have no idea what you are on about Please call me if you wish to discuss you have my number Alan
  16. I bought a reco'd 280 box from Lindsay 20 years ago for around $550 and it was fine (so $750 fitted change over now is damn cheap) . The box shifted well did not jump out of gear and was quiet............I think Stan Holmes was doing his boxes back then. Whilst I did get "bent over" a little 20 years back when I was nieve............of late I have found Lindsay to be very helpful with parts etc . BTW Lou Mondello is reco'ing 240/260 boxes now for Lindsay's Zeds he is restoring
  17. If you have flushed you radiator (or replaced it and have a genuiane thermostat (rarely go faulty) and have replaced the water pump ............Check your temp gauge..............is it actually running at 103 deg or is that what your gauge is reading, I have seen temp gauges go faulty (my old 240 race car did it).
  18. I have a 3.9 in my Zed which sees a fraction over 3000rpm at 100 kph, the old 4.1 had the donk spinning at 3500 at 100 kph (not great on a drive to QLD) , standard 260 gear box with 205/60/15 tyres
  19. Hi Simon Turbos are treated the same as a capacity upgrade (x 1.7 as per the MSCA regs) so yes an engineers report would be required for an L28 turbo. Are you considering fitting a turbo ?
  20. I looked into this some years back when I was resto'ing my old 240- All had luggage straps All carpet was loop pile and the masonite spare wheel disc As a matter of interest.........there were a few 240's that arrived that did not have a chassis number stamped on them. Lindsay Drife has one at the Z Shop, looks to be a late model (diff moved back and storage bins) but no chassis number Alan Alan
  21. The AOMC manual allows the issuing club some discretion in determining what are significant modifications, the NDSOC has allowed some leaway for L series upgrades......I can send you the manual if you wish PM me you email address. These guidelines have been in place for many years and it clearly states that engine swaps of same family and era are acceptable up to 10% increase capacity. Engine swaps from 4 to 6 or 6 to 8 require an engineers report. If your Zed has an L28 it will be fine for a Permit without an engineers report. Alan
  22. I take it Daniel you are referring to me, you could just ask what the rules are instead of trying to create more dissention......please remember this is a public forum. The AOMC requirements on issuing permit plates are very clear, you can either obtain a RWC or have a letter of safety compliance issued by the particular club (This is at the club's discretion on weather they will issue letters of safety) . Some clubs insist on a RWC, other clubs such as the NDSOC can issue letters of safety compliance for standard vehicles or those with minimal modifications in lieu of a RWC (after an inspection by our club scrutineer). Our club scutineer has the discretion to ask for a RWC if he believes the car to be unsafe or too modified. In line with the AOMC guidelines, the NDSOC now requires engineers certificates for all engine swaps outside of the original family fitted (eg L24 to L28 is permitted, L series to RB or SR etc must have engineers cert). There is absolutley no ambiguity with the NDSOC requirements and it is published in the permit plate requirements letter for all members or prospective members to read, all members must comply with the same rules . On the subject of the future 90 day log book, the AOMC and Vic Roads have made no additional requirements outside of those already in force (to date anyway). The 90 day scheme is scheduled for the end of the year with current permit plates rolled over to the 90 day log book on there renewal. The NDSOC has 55 Permit plate holders amoung the 304 members (as at December 2009) who enjoy the benefits of the current scheme within the rules stipulated by the AOMC and Vic Roads (yes there are limitations of use which will be overcome when the 90 day scheme comes into play which is great as the club will not be at risk of loosing it's Permit Plate "licence" if members abuse the privilage) I will certainly be puting my Zed on a 90 day log book as soon as it comes into play as there are no "club use only " restrictions as there are now. Any questions feel free to PM me Alan Fildes Life Member Permit Plate Secretary NDSOC
  23. I have a pair (found on ebay) and they are only missing the metal devider strip between indicator and parking light, the holes were slighly out of wack but its no big deal.........once fitted they look fine. If you do bid on ebay be careful as this mob scam to up the price when you are bidding, then send you a second chance if you are out bid (happened to me three times on the same item) so if you bid do so at the very last moment beforeit ends.
  24. Hey Guys Has anyone done any dyno testing on triple manifolds particulary Independant Runner versus balanced runner design ?? (balance tube connecting all six runners) I have been playing on the chasssi dyno again and trying out various cams and exhaust lengths (secondaries) and will be comparing a Cannon balanced manifold to a Nissan Motor Sport IR manifold shortly.
  25. I sourced new plastic vents from Nissan last year, could not get the drip trays though
