  2. Hi Jeff, If you have to drill the Moustache bar it is not the correct one for the diff. There were 3x different bars for the Datsuns. Two for the early models and a different one for the R200 diff. From memory the earlier one for the R180 was straighter. Then when Datsun moved the diff to better align with the wheels the second bar had a bit of a curve to compliment the offset. Then the R200 bar had more of a curve and was of heavier construction . The R200 also had larger studs which required bigger holes in the bar and the spacing was slightly different. The bar should also be on the diff side of the upright link bracing. David.

A few extra pictures of the head and oil pan. Pan needs a little bit to finish off internally.

The oil pan probably wasn't needed but it was an interesting conversion. Copied form pictures on the internet. Basically a cut and shut with standard depth with wings on the side for increased capacity. Fins were spot welded to the base. Just 10mm flat steel. A second drain hole was added. All welding was done with the pan bolted to the block and using compressed air to keep the pan cool when welding to stop distortion. I'll post some pictures of the internals tomorrow. ( Wrinkle finish red paint makes it go faster and hides my mig welding. Lol ). David.

Time flies when you don't have any to spare. Blast from the past. A big thank you to Brett and James at MIA Engines in Dee Why Sydney for the excellent work on my converted N42 head. I had dropped the head off 4 years ago and said that I wasn't in any rush to have it finished because I had other things on my plate at the time. Well!!! Time gets away from you. I picked up the head at the end of October and I confess that it has sat in the box since then. Anyway, now I have some pictures. Chambers have been welded and reshaped. Fuel injection cutouts welded also. Ports reshaped. New valve guides, seats, DSI big valves (45/36.5mm) also longer to compensate for the .560" lift camshaft (also from DSI) and keep the geometry correct. New springs, Chrome moly retainers and new rockers and lash pads. I also have just completed the oil pan conversion using an internal Tomei universal oil flow adapter around the oil pickup. I
  6. Cheers for the info regarding diff ratios guys. My hat goes off to those that competed on the weekend. By the end of next year I should be moving back to Orange ( 1/2 hour from Bathurst ) after an absence of about 37 years, so I should get to the Mountain. Probably as a spectator only though. David.(Enzo).
  7. Cheers, Much appreciated.
  8. Quick Question: What is the diff ratio that most of the Datsun crew are using for the Mountain. Cheers, Enzo.
  9. Congratulations to you both. In the words of Mr Spock. "LIVE LONG AND PROSPER".
  10. Interesting watching the 3x fluid reservoirs reacting to the G forces Cool Car.
  11. Hi Jeff, Coming together nicely. Throw your notepad away and put a large white board on the wall. Separate the job into sections and finish a section at a time before moving on to the next one. Cross them off as you complete them. Also, as and incentive, the white board will be the first thing you see when entering the workshop and this will be a reminder of the next job to complete. Don't even consider installing the engine till all the engine bay fittings are in place. (electrics, fuel lines, brake lines, master cylinders, brake boosters, etc.). Keep up the good work. David (Enzo)
  12. Cheers Gav, Much appreciated.
