This is great news for Skyline owners. Wish Nissan would do the same for the S30z's. Their popularity is arguably high enough for the demand to come in.

I saw that evil look in your eye as you contemplated the fact that I said you may be able to run it briefly without the ballast resistor, pretty sure the ballast prevents the points from burning out. Hence why it's not needed when you go electronic. I don't think the broken magnet will prevent the distributor from working, from memory mine is also broken (in my 72 240z), but the car runs ok. If there is no spark it's likely the electronic modules are stuffed (wiring polarity wrong can destroy them). Apparently you can wire in a GM unit to get around this. http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/gmhei.html However if you're desperate I have a couple of distributors you could try and borrow or replace the points with the petronix ignitor. FYI: The E12-80 distributors were ok, but all the parts in them break over time (like the ball bearing cage) and the magnet / reluctor thingy. I found the Mitsubishi made distributors (refer to this thread: ) were better. quality. However harder to find, I do see them on Yahoo! Auctions but they tend to get $300+ on average. I actually think with modern tech now the tuneable distributors (ignition curve mapping), are probably not a bad investment. https://www.123ignition.com.au/ See also Neuby's thread. -
Yeah I agree, good deal and price. Although $USD strength means it's still not cheap for foreign buyers in many parts. I actually wouldn't mind a crash in Z432 prices. Might actually bring them into range for a buyer like me. Although I doubt they will go that low again. Then again, never say never. It appears classic car market is driven by trends over time and what's hot 1 decade can fall out of flavour the next.

Rough Fairlady Z, but could be a diamond in the rough if it goes for the right amount. L28 and Triple Mikuni's. https://page.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/l513371289
-
Fairlady Z432 only reached $90,000 USD. https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2019/01/21/bargain-nissan-z432-240z The same car sold for $170,500 at RM Sotheby’s 2017 Amelia Island sale. More than anything, the low sale was probably a case of the typical audiences at the Scottsdale auctions. There was a limited number of classic Japanese cars for sale, and the present bidders were likely focused more on the typical American and European offerings. Given the long-term prospects of this car, we consider this specific case to be well bought. Not sure why people sell these cars at auctions that are not suitable for these cars, but why sell at all? No reserve?
-
That looks almost OEM, the grain is very slightly different (for the nitpickers) but certainly better than 99% of the stuff I've seen from various North American vendors.
-
I'll use kbs rust seal in the parts that will be behind the box section (once welded in) where they usually rust out, and copper primer in the areas that I spot weld. Lots of seam sealer to keep moisture from getting in and then epoxy primer on the external areas that will be painted body colour.
-
Progress photos, long steady weld along the line here, requires ongoing hammer / dolly work and patience. I have had quite a bit of help from my tafe teacher (especially the tach welding stage) but I'm doing the long bead. The lower half is very difficult to manipulate given how thick the steel is, which makes it more difficult than usual, but overall very happy with what I have done so far in terms of weld work. The goal was to improve my skills working on this piece and it certainly has forced me to improve that's for sure. To get it to sit right on the car will require a bit of heavy handedness, given that the rear of the car is slightly bent down (I'll need to pull it out, but don't have the tools at home) when I do finally plug/weld or spot weld it into place again.

I remember when that car last came to market. Looks like good buying. QLD registration seems to indicate chassis no. H530-11500 - a bit later than my 72. What's not well known is that 72's are actually the rarest 240z's in Australia. Fewer delivered cars in that year compared with 70, 71 and 73. I only have 38 72's recorded in total in my database of HS30's. -

Not a car, but the process reminded me a lot of what we as car enthusiasts go through when trying to restore our cars to "original" condition. Restoration Australia covering Mid Century Modernist Architecture and restoration of a home by well known architecture in Perth WA (Iwanhoff). https://iview.abc.net.au/show/restoration-australia ABC has an article on it below. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-03-17/perth-iwan-iwanoff-designed-paganin-house-restored-after-fire/10907072
