Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..
gav240z replied to gav240z's topic in Cars For Sale
I don't know about you guys, but I just watched this auction end and I feel this car went for a bargain price! http://www.ebay.com/itm/231180130886 I was about to bid myself and bring it to Australia... -
In terms of price? Might be worth giving these guys a call? http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,13971.0.html My 240z from S.A to N.S.W cost about $700 ($600 to N.S.W depot and an additional $100 to my place which is inner west Sydney). I'm therefore going to guess about $500...give or take.

The quarter windows would look trick with the little louvres in them like Magnus Walkers Porsche 911.

Both of those were posted a couple of pages ago, but what scares me with the red 1 is that chassis rail photo. It looks like a relatively rust free car on the surface but then you see that! I dunno but I suspect it's got quite a bit of 'hidden' rust. -

Thanks mate, but my car already has the original wheel. George may want it though for car #19. -

Thanks George, I saw it also but that's an extortionate amount of money for a pipe with a bit of thread on it. LOL... I have spares. Just hate breaking stuff because I was working on auto-pilot and not really thinking things through . I actually just found some photos of the N42 Lurch gave me here: http://datsun-240z-blog.viczcar.com/n42-head.html It has the cam-towers, for some reason I thought they were missing, but it's just the intake valves and some of the manifold studs (which will be replaced anyway). Just needs a good clean as you can see . As for the E31 I'll keep it, just in case I manage to track down the L24 block by some miracle in future. I'll also speak with James Flett about my options on Sunday (if i can make it): http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,14071.msg148723/topicseen.html Incidentally I read this in the morning. http://performanceforums.com/forums/showthread.php?67272732-L28-Datto-head-had-to-share! Anyone know if this TK fellow posted any further updates on this motor - I see a couple of you might have seen this thread already? -

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=281265478560 N42/N42 (block / engine) combo on this 1. Has consistent compression from looks of things. Could be a good engine for someone on here. -
New entry for 'worth paint job' ever. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Z-Series-Z-1973-datsun-240-z-no-reserve-/171271270010 Which begs the question, what does this seller deem as major bodywork? The paint job is so horrible, it's almost awesome again.

So does anyone know what the Pickles 240z went for? http://www.pickles.com.au/cars/item/-/details/CP-09-73--Datsun--240Z--Coupe--2-Seats--2-Doors/103284237 I looked at it for someone here is what I saw / thought. Video was a rush last minute job as I had to run due to the impending storms over Sydney, my g/f was at the park with the dog and I had to go get her before the rain came in. The reason the video's are split is because she was calling and my phone stopped recording at that time. I actually thought I was still filming for a while (when it was calling) before I realised. https://plus.google.com/photos/107400787026175995661/albums/5990921216709903825?authkey=CPyAle70j6DySw My overall impression was good car, 1 spot of rust bubble on the roof. I couldn't see under the car completely since it wasn't on a stand but I thought it looked like it was structurally sound. The other thing I forgot was to check for matching #s - I think it had an L26 block, but I got distracted right before I was going to confirm. Did anyone else take a look? Really curious what price it fetched. -

OK so used a straight edge on the engine head and it appears to be straight I didn't see any evidence of warpage. I measured across cylinders, diagonally, vertically etc.. And couldn't see anywhere that a feeler gauge would fit under it. So that along with head gasket makes me think a hole in cylinder head as opposed to blown gasket. -

I have but I wanted to learn to build a motor. Cheap L28s are few and far between these days. I was going to toss in an old L24 that hasn't run since 2000 but it was a lot of effort to bring it from Melb to Syd and find out it is not in good shape. I'm going to try and keep this engine build very modest at first anyway. -
I plan to change pistons and I'm looking to use the LD28 crank and L14 rods I have also. Just seeing if anyone has 1 and at what price. Fall back option is N42 but I haven't ruled out the E31 yet.

I haven't made any concrete decisions yet, but it's definitely a consideration. If not for any other reason than to provide me with motivation to finish it. . My metal work skills aren't there yet as you'd expect so working on Engine / mechanical stuff until I'm ready for the body etc.. -
Hi Guys, As you may have seen in my Safari Gold project thread, I've discovered my E31 has the small L24 size valves and my F54 block has a set of dished pistons which I believe would give me a CR of ~8:1. So I'm looking at some options and thought I'd post and see if anyone has a P90 they might be willing to part with? You can get them rebuilt in the US pretty cheap, but I suspect shipping will be the killer given their heavy weight. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Z-240Z-260Z-280Z-ZX-Rebuilt-P90-TURBO-Cylinder-Engine-Motor-Head-/151234217839 Feel free to PM me what you want for 1 if you have 1? Will consider any condition - would prefer something that hasn't been messed with too much if possible but all options considered pending price etc..No rush on this end, going to be tearing into the block first but figure I'd put this up as a starting point etc.. Cheers, Gavin

Thanks Linton, yes I agree the head-gasket must have blown and not been fixed for some time which caused the rust and then subsequent seizure. I was expecting to find evidence of the blown gasket by looking at the head gasket but I couldn't see anything obvious on the underside or top side of the gasket (have already removed it). Before I remove the pistons should I use a ridge reamer? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79i-_-u3HzA I am not sure I'll get them out without damage to the bore (especially in #4) and I'm not sure if I'll just do a simple refresh or go a bit more crazy with this motor build yet. But what are my chances of salvaging the pistons here? With regard to the head itself, I only have sentimental value for it based on the fact that it was the head that it left the factory with (E31), but since the L24 block is gone I'm not going to get too caught up on that. My N42 is missing cam towers, camshaft and a couple of valves (think intake valves have been pinched) so weighing up my options right now. -

So engine head is finally off. But first what I broke the other day... and engine mounts with new pipe pieces... This was written on the back of the camshaft. It's an A-Grind cam. 22747 (in black sharpie ink). Does that mean anything to anyone? Also worth mentioning is that the cam-sprocket was aligned with the dowel to the #2. I also measured the exhaust and intake valve diameter Exhaust = 33mm Intake = 42mm Based on what Nzeder posted here: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,7769.msg73944.html#msg73944 It would appear I have the standard valve sizes for an L24 head :'( - so it is maybe safe to assume this was no warm motor... It also has dished pistons... Cam Lobes rusty. For some reason cylinder head looks clean, as in no burnt on oil / film I usually see inside an engine head... Anyway I bought a massive gear puller it was about $30 more than I expected to pay at $80 but it's massive. And now the moment we have all been waiting for... the engine head removal... Block Starting at #6 cylinder. Block looking at #3 and #4 Block Looking at #2 and #3 Block looking at #1 and #2 You can tell #4 has had water in it, but I wasn't able to see any problems with the head gasket (with my limited head gasket analysis experience). Now the engine head itself, which has the gasket stuck to it. #5 and #6. #3 and #4 #2 and #3 #1 and #2 #1 So can anyone see where the head gasket failed? How did water get into #4? The gasket looks fine as far as I can tell... a corroded head perhaps? Disappointed about the tiny valves (P.O must have been tightfisted with the build), I do have an N42 head in storage although it looks questionable. Lurch gave it to me years ago now. Also what is the blueish residue on the intake valves? The good news is I couldn't feel much ridge in the bores, not enough to get a fingernail under anyway. But we shall see what damage is incurred when the pistons come out. Weird I can't see reason for failure yet. Hopefully you guys can shed some light? -

Hey mate, it is just the Nissan OHC cover. I might polish it up as a spare. I bought some VHT wrinkle paint from eBay as I couldn't find it in stores guy at local auto store said they no longer make it. Not sure about that? Anyway apparently it is high temp paint. Although Sydney weather sucks today so can't paint and let dry in sun. I don't have an L24 though. It is an L28 block with E31 head on it. -
Sounds good mate. My sister will be visiting from Botswana so not sure yet if I'll make it. But will definitely try.

Yeah I saw someone put their car on it's lid. Good stuff provided nobody was badly hurt.
