  1. I looked at that car when it was up for auction. I've got some photos of it, including the auction sheet if you want it or maybe already have it? Is it a L20 (2 litre) S30z? Looks like you got the Japanese Market Mesh Grille and Calendar Clock . Glad you're happy.
  2. Yeah but I didn't think it would go that cheap is all. Even if it is 'raped' .
  3. Oh here is the interior of HS30 00151 - as you can see a darker red wheel rim.
  4. I'm sure you could modify it. Just found this on that site. http://store.speedshopkubo.com/products/detail.php?product_id=363 About $200 before shipping + tax etc..
  5. There is always Japan. I found a Wiper switch, not indicator. http://www.buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/r113319187 But it's listed by these guys, could ask them about indicator switch? http://www.speedshopkubo.com/
  6. Also here are some other threads that show photos of different finishes people have done. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/interior-s30/21485-my-steering-wheel-restore-detailed.html http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/interior-s30/29126-240z-steering-wheel-restoration.html http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/interior-s30/38344-steering-wheel-restoration.html My personal favorite though is this: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/interior-s30/33433-best-method-restoring-240z-steering-wheel.html#post293074 esprist - runs JDM-Car-Parts.com - it would seem.
  7. Nice Dale, those photos are awesome.
  8. Good question, to be honest I don't know the answer... I've seen some 240z sales brochures where the wood colour looks very different to the production model we received. I think the earliest S30z's had a different colour and possibly texture to their wheels. Check out the colour on HS30 0004 http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=13650.0 This is from October 1969 But many other later cars appear to have a darker grain finish on their steering wheel. Here for example is Kats S30z 432 If you want the original 5 speed gear knob you'll also have to consider the fact that some of the reproductions of the gear knob have a different grain and texture again. So in my opinion I don't think it matters what colour you go for, so long as it's consistent with the gear knob you're using (if you're looking for original looking interior that is). FWIW: I'm not getting too hung up on those small details with my car.
  9. Yeah I'm in the middle of doing mine also. The earlier ones don't have the cut out spokes so getting all the old paint off is a pain in the butt. Where did you buy the minwax stuff? I got a stain and varnish in 1 type of stuff and I'm not sure how it will look / work so would rather try the tested and proved stuff. Looking good so far. The clear will set it off I'm sure. Going to tackle gear knob next .
  10. Bargain?? http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=151330154707&globalID=EBAY-AU&alt=web I think so...
  11. By the way does anyone know who ran DatZed - 715 Dandenong Road Cnr of Raleigh St. Malvern in 1983 ? The whole area appears to have changed since then and I can't find any record of what the workshop was or who ran it.
  12. Early Girl AU Delivered 240z. Note: Vents on rear hatch, the fender mirrors and 240z side emblem/badges on the 1/4 panels. Sadly I don't know where the photo was taken or what year for that matter, it was a photo Lindsay Drife shared with me over email when we discussed some of the early 240z's (HS30 00150) etc.. I did get this also, however no chassis ID, only engine #. I was told The Motor Registration Branch MRB never recorded chassis numbers, just engine numbers until the late 80's when they became Vicroads. Sound familiar? It might to those who have been following this thread: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=14462.0 The car might be long dead by now, I was told the last time that car was seen was at DatZed - 715 Dandenong Road Cnr of Raleigh St. Malvern in 1983. It was traded in for a new 260Z 2+2 in 1977. W.Z Zcar register has no record of that engine number: L24-013045 Would be nice to know if it has survived all these years though... Postcode looks like Balaclava / East St.Kilda - I actually can't believe how many Zeds were in those postcode areas. I guess with Zshop nearby that might have something to do with it.
  13. Based on the gas tank flap (that lip part) and rear 1/4 indicator cut out, I think it's cars for the North American market. However it could also be for some European markets. What is interesting is there is no rear vents in the hatch, but the sugar scoops look fiberglass - which leads me to believe it's around late 70 - 71 production year. Edit - Karljsw beat me to post.
  14. Wow that thing looks awesome. Very much like the Mazda Furai.
  15. Hey Adam, Actually I'm not sure if what I have is the wiper stalk only or if I have a spare turn signal also. @Skipz - The problem with the US cars is that they are all backwards, so things like wiper and turn signal switches are not on the correct side.
  16. Cross flow engines in a Z look better . S20 looks awesome in an S30z.
  17. Only just realised they have a P510 4 door on that car carrier. I thought they only got the 2 door?
  18. Here is 2 more photos that look vintage. Both taken from here: http://zzxdatsun.com/ Here are some photos I got from Len Brennan ages ago. This was his first 240z, I don't know it's number I'm afraid, but look at the Fender Mirrors And it's not even a 1970 model. It must be a 71 or 72 based on the Z badge on the rear 1/4 panel. So it looks like our market had those mirrors for at least the first 2 years. Here is Sandown many years ago. Not a Z but still a cool period photo.
  19. It's the S20 motor, only found in the PS30 and PS30-SB aka 432 and 432-R versions of the Fairlady Z. From the photo I'm guessing it is a genuine 432-R but I'm sure Alan (HS30-H) on here could confirm exactly what car it is and probably even what race it was! I have to say I do love that photo also!
  20. I thought it was worth sharing. http://dimequarterly.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/vintage-picture-datsun-hauler.html If anyone has similar photos of Datsun's being delivered brand new like this feel free to add them to this thread.
  21. If you have 30 mins to spare watch this! D.I.Y Port Work.
  22. I think I have a spare in Melbourne, unknown condition though. It came with my 72 - assume it was removed and replaced but kept as spare. I will be in Melbourne in next couple of weeks. I can try dig it out and you can see if it works?
  23. For a complete set up that's a good price. I have seen brand new ones on Yahoo! auctions for $1,500 and no air box/heat shield or fuel line etc.. @alfadog - what's wrong with your Triples?
  24. I've only ever driven a mates VC Commodore which had the same motor I believe (Holden Red or Blue Block?) I was not impressed, it felt slow to rev and really disappointing to drive compared with the L-series, but then again it could have been the camshaft profile designed for low end torque in a sedan? But it just felt heavy and very primitive. I would have thought the larger displacement would help somewhat though? A few years back now, when I got my 260z 2+2 (w/L28) I had a full car with 4 mates in it. We pulled up a set of lights and there was a fella in an LJ Torana - when the lights changed we had a bit of a drag race, the Z won - quite convincingly too, even with that extra weight in it. Still makes me laugh to think about it. Of course who knows what tune his car was in, but mine was far from perfect also. So a fair comparison in my book. It would be funny to see 260z 2+2's become desirable for racing. Very underrated I've always felt. There was also a 240K Coupe in the 75 Bathurst race was there not?
  25. Hey George, radio looks good. Although I'm wondering if it's possible to get plating done that doesn't have that funky green colour in it? On a head unit like this it really doesn't matter as it's not going to be seen for the most part, but in the engine bay etc.. I'd rather a gold / yellow plating colour for hinges and latches, inspection lamp etc..
