Cars For Sale (3rd Party Sites) Ebay, Carsales etc..

That was a 20B project that was picked up a year or so ago but someone here if I recall correctly. For a 2 seater without much rust, that's a great price I think. -

Thanks mate, good idea. Just found this on a bit of a Google search. http://www.australianjavelins.com/technical/seat_repair/seat_repair.htm LOL! I like this kind of project, because I can work indoors - out of the cold of the garage at the minute haha. You'd think all those Irish winters (and summers) would have hardened me up, but nope I hate the cold now. . -
Have you considered re-doing the original seats? Or do you need additional support for what you do with the car? The problem for the S30z's is that most seats are too big for the small cabin area and in my opinion look somewhat out of place. The aftermarket seats that are any good tend to cost an arm and a leg. Everything else is pretty average in my opinion. I would imagine MX-5 seats sit a bit lower since they probably have less support and they do look similar to the original seats. I don't know how much Recaro Pole Position seats are in AU but they should also fit into the Z ok and I like the way they look.

Yeah that's what I'm doing mate, a light sand between each coat of stain and clear polyurethane. Gear knob before. Step 1. Remove the old button. There is probably a better way, but I used a heat gun and it actually ruined the button, which although it was in bad shape anyway I kinda wanted to save. This is what heat does to the button. Compare the colour of the knob with the steering wheel. First coat of stain Will sand when dry and apply the second stain coat, then it's onto the polyurethane like the wheel. Should make a nice matching pair, and I have a 5 speed button to go on it.
-
Hey George, I did 2 coats of the polyurethane and now instructions say wait minimum of 72 hours before another coat. So I'm gonna so light steel wool then final spray tomorrow night. Just doing the gear knob now also. As for the stain I saw a couple of wheels in those threads where they didn't use it and it looked too dull to me. I like the cherry red colour. I guess it is personal preference and depends if you like the colour of the wheel as it is.

So photos of the new stuff I mentioned the other day. New headlight bucket for the passenger side, this time no bog. As mentioned I got 2 of everything, when it came to trim (since I'll be doing the 70 and 72 240z's) Handbrake boots. Seat bottom trim Close up of texture Original vs new comparison Seat back trim Original The buttons in the seat backing are slightly different, but you would only be able to tell if you put them side by side. Likewise the grain in the trim is different but I don't think many would notice. Of course I'd probably loose points if competing for concourse, but that's no the point of my restoration at this point in time. Otherwise my console and steering wheel etc.. would also need to be perfectly original and I think I'd rather have the car on the road and enjoy it than have every part OEM and original. These things can always be changed in future, should I want to go down that path. The original trims by the way have a few splits - as they be expected and could potentially be patched up and fixed, so I'll keep them for future reference. Q.) I don't have the seat foams, I know I can order them from the US, but is there any local options? -

Actually it was my daily hack in Ireland but I actually don't use a car to get to work. I've been using a bike . The Jimny has been useful since we got the fur child (dog) and for carting parts around and taking panels to the TAFE course. It is also nice to have something I can park anywhere and not be worried about leaving it in the street and in summer stick a surfboard on the roof. Plus the rx7 is appauling on fuel haha. My girlfriend also needs a car to learn manual in and she is scared to drive the rx7. She can also use it to go shopping on weekends while I tinker in the garage. I don't think I'm the only male with a strong dislike for shopping that doesn't involve buying stuff for the car. So I figure it is a win win. The other reason for wanting such a car is to do some more exploring of Australia and maybe do some light 4x4 stuff and go camping. Living abroad for 6 years made me realise how much of my own country I haven't seen yet. Having said all that I should really get the rx7 out more and I should probably at least drive into work once a week. Some days I just don't want to ride a bike. As for the other 240z yes I want her on the road, but 1 thing at a time. -
Do you mean the early fender mirrors? I have a couple of ideas of who to ask, but I'm a bit broke right now.

Hi Guys, I am looking at a daily hack / practical car and just saw a nice Suzuki Jimny yesterday and I want to make an offer on it. The problem is when I talk about road worthies people think I'm from another planet. I've been looking into the requirements when you transfer a car in NSW and I'm properly confused. So my understanding is that when I buy a car for sale via private sale I'll have to. a.) Pay stamp duty when transferring ownership. b.) Registration on the car expires end of July - so I'll have to cover that, but I was told it's only around $300 - which I thought was low?* c.) Green slip = Compulsory third party insurance - is that built into the price of registration or something different/another expense? d.) Blue slip = Road Worthy Certificate? Do you have to obtain 1 of these when you buy a private sale car? The vehicle is already registered etc.. so is there anything else or any other costs other than taking out Insurance on the vehicle? * I thought this was low because I currently drive my sisters Victorian registered Suzuki Jimny and her rego was $700 odd for the year.

Interesting that has the Mitsubishi stamp on it. I've got 1 of those distributors also but they are different to the common E12 module found on 280zx's etc.. And to be honest I've not seen those style very often at all. So parts for it might be harder to find. The only real way to know if the distributor is wonky is to pull it off and see if there is play, but you'll want a spare gasket before you do that. I can try dig mine out of the garage and shoot a short video of it to compare? But are you sure it is an electrical misfire? Could it be injectors or air flow meter? FWIW I don't think that distrubtor is driven by a crank angle sensor but I don't know the JDM models like yours that well to be 100% certain? -
I guess the alternative is around 30-60 million for the real deal. But no I would pay 9k for this kit because I like the S30z the way it is. But that is just me.

Do you know if your car had electronic ignition? Take a photo of the distributor if you can with cap removed. If they develop slack in the shaft they arc out causing a slight miss. -
Lol yep took me about 8 years to get 1. But you can get them from here as a reproduction. http://www.datsunparts.com/1122 Now if only you could find the early fender mirrors that easily.

Saw "Man on a ledge" last night, nothing that hasn't been done before but was good all the same 7/10.

Awesome and I see you got yourself a Fairlady Z grille too! Must be happy now, I remember when it was sitting in your garage. A little annoyed with it.

I just re-read that article and noticed how much mis-information is in that article. *sigh*.

Yep I get all excited when Z-car parts arrive for me. It reminds me of the Christmas back in 1992 or 1993 I got a Super Nintendo! Think that was the best Christmas ever. So the other stuff I received was: 1. Seat Trim Kit (X2 - 1 for 70 240z and 1 for 72 240z) 2. Carpet kit 3. Shift boot + Handbrake boot 4. Passenger sugar scoop (to replace my fubar 1) 5. A couple of those 5 speed buttons, I'm going to try sourcing another original 4 speed knob for my other 240z I also bought a complete good condition second hand diamond vinyl kit off Yahoo! Auctions a couple of weeks ago that will be used on my 72 240z, so the 72 is going to be very original interior wise shortly. I'll probably remove the Recaro's and put the originals re-trimmed back in. In terms of the Grille, yes the plan is to use it on the Safari Gold car, but at the same time I kinda like the idea of keeping it in it's AU specification. So if I can find original AU fender mirrors I'll put them on, but a grille and fender mirrors can be swapped easily, but I'll be using the AU market 'Datsun' badges as opposed to Fairlady Z ones. Speaking of Fender Mirrors I found some Fairlady Z ones (long stalks) and just waiting on them to show up now. As you can probably tell I splurged a little this month on some new items. I really should get onto my motor next though and I need to buy a drivers side door skin. Sadly I also will be loosing my daily driver soon as my sister gets back from her 7 months in Chile and I was borrowing her mini 4x4. Now I'm trying to find another (More Money!), but you can't take it with you when you're dead haha. -
Hi Dave, Actually I wanted to know purely for selfish reasons. I'm currently restoring an early 240z (HS30 00150) and I'm lead to believe that the original L24 block was probably replaced with an L28 block when the car had work done at DatZed sometime in the 80s, some people will think I'm crazy still trying to track down it's original block and it's more than likely it was sent to sims scrap metal, but you never know until you ask and I figured someone at DatZed may be able to give me some more history on the car. It's always nice to know more about such a car's past. If you're interested in the project you can read pages of waffle here: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php/topic,13624.0.html It sounds like you're a long way away from Australia these days. Enjoying retirement perhaps? PS: I knew I'd heard the name Steve Newing before. Seems he did a lot of the work that was done on this Z. http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article.html?&title=Yella-Delight&A=108383

I have had a few parts arrive today, but for now I'll just post this. Fairlady Z Grille. Although she's a little fragile and has some rust etc.., so not sure how I'll approach the repair yet, going to have to be very careful. These seem to be quite rare to find these days also. -

I saw this the other day. http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/moorebank/cars-vans-utes/1963-nissan-cedric-sedan/1050377478 and I'll forever associate the Cedric with this film. and this appears to be a steal in my opinion. Datsun 1000 coupe for $4,500 http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/pascoe-vale/cars-vans-utes/1970-datsun-1000-coupe/1050670652 -
After second coating of minwax stain, you can see it has a nice gloss. When I got home last night I rubbed it down lightly with 000 grade steel wool. Which took a bit of the sheen off it, but then as you can see it has got that gloss back (even nicer) after the second coating. This photo was taken in the morning after it's been drying over night. Next step is to do the Polyurethane, but I'm wondering should I hit it with 000 steel wool again before spraying it? Or should I hit it with the Polyurethane then use steel wool before the second coat of Polyurethane spray? I plan to do about 3 coats of the Poly. So far really happy with the way the wood grain is looking and the wheel is turning out. I'll be doing the gear knob next.

^^ Agree, from the sounds of it you bought this car as a way to learn and dive in yourself so no time like the present to give it a shot. These cars are relatively easy to work on and if you don't rush there is no reason you can't do a lot of the work yourself. I didn't know how to weld (some would argue I still don't) until I started the Tafe course, but slowly I'm learning new skills. The only way to learn and get better is to give it a go and start somewhere, yes it can be frustrating but there is a level of satisfaction you just don't get when you pay someone else to do the work for you. It's hard to explain, but when you drive the car down the road after completing something on it you did yourself, it's a great feeling.

Thanks guys, won't know how much I need of that section until I unpick that panel. But the lower section on mine has seen better days for sure. Worst case I might have to fabricate my own. At least I know of 1 option available and it's not too expensive.

Worst case scenario you could get some US spec ones and separate the lens from the housing. Otherwise there is reproductions with full loom available, expect to pay around $400 AU minimum for a good set of copies though! I've seen good second hand ones on Yahoo! Auctions but asking price is about the same as a new replica set is it is for second hand condition ones in good shape. So how bad do you want the Koito lettering?
