Hi folks, Someone contacted me recently to notify me that new members had contacted them to say they had parts they were searching for, but after sending payment via PayPal never heard back. They luckily got a refund from PayPal. However when I looked up these members they had strange login locations like Lagos, Pheonix and Pennsylvania etc.. Not to say we don't have legit members in those locations but generally speaking our members tend to be in Oz. I do my best to keep spam off the forum, I manually review every new members first posts before approving them. But it seems some members are sending PMs before making any posts and may slip under the radar. I would highly recommend only trading with well known established members with an established community reputation. Report any PMs from members that have not yet posted if you suspect they may be non legitimate. I leave the forum open to make it accessible to the community, but with that comes dealing with the lowest of the low scum from third world sh1t holes also sadly. So if we all stay vigilant we can help keep them out of the community.

So, long time between updates. I've been sort of broke, and haven't had much surplus cash to spend on the cars. But I figured I could do lots of little things that don't cost too much. Ever since converting to Triples there has been a few things that bother me over the Twin SUs. No heat shielding between the carbs and headers. Nowhere to plumb the PCV hoses from the block and valve cover No Air Horns (velocity stacks) - just K&N filters on the end. The ideal set up would do all 3, and as you can see above I bought the hamster cages some time back and was planning to use those (but I'll come back to that). Anyway I looked at a few heat shield options and got this 1 at a very reasonable price. It's 3 pieces and the bottom part is slightly adjustable so you can push it toward and away from the headers, I guess to accommodate different exhaust designs and clearances. Plus it's shiny. Step 1. Test fit. It still has the protective film on it here. But good news was no issues with fitment, pretty much spot on. You can see how far it extends under the carb bodies (has cut outs for the accelerator pump). I still want to run filters for now, so I wanted to see if I could bolt them on with the heat shield in place. Good news is, they fit nicely. Bad news is, they still look hideous. What I like about this 1 is that it has the heat shield extend under the intakes and helps funnel cold air from the front of the car. Closer shot under the carb body. From the rear, plenty of clearance with my generic H&M style headers. Which are ugly as and could use ceramic coating. I knew it wasn't going to work, but I had to try. I was hoping I could slip the trumpets on under the K&N filters. Although not shown here I have another pair of K&N filters for 44s but they wouldn't fit and my velocity stacks are damaged (3 of them) because someone cut 2 of them to probably try and fit under a filter in the past. (see front carb for the cut ones) and the #6 has a chip out of it (all before I got them). With the film removed you can see the polished mirror finish on this shield. Lovely. And that's the problem, they look so good with the velocity stacks out in the open I kind of want to have this arragement. I'm thinking I'll get the individual filters that slip over the stacks, but also I wouldn't mind changing the set up around to also fit the hamster cages (best of both worlds). I've actually found 4 more velocity stacks in good shape (think they are the same as the others) so I'll be shipping them here soon. Polish them up and fit them for extra internet points. These engines look so good with the triples hanging off the side. For the hamster cage set up I found some heat shields like these. And I think these will not stick out in front of the intakes so should give the clearance I need to fit them. What I like about the hamster cages is that they incorporate a velocity stack into them. But right now my bigger concern is fitting an oil catch can of some description otherwise I get oil residue all over the engine bay. Yucky..

Yes, I've seen it in person. But a few years ago. It was relatively honest from memory, although I didn't look at it in great detail. It was in the same shed as where my 71 240z was kept for a while. The owner is @zaxzedsand is well known in the Z community as many cars have been through his hands over the years. -

Rule #1 as soon as a car is listed on the Internet to chances of getting it cheap are basically null and void. If you want to find 1 cheap (and you can all but kiss $5k deals goodbye) you need to hit the bricks and start door knocking. Maybe get to know your local Jehovah's Witnesses or Mormans. Ask them if they have seen any in people's driveways. Haha.

I think this is what's going on, Dulux locally seems to be using their own naming conventions when describing the colours in their brochure, rather than the official names that Nissan would have applied. The original delivery card on my 71 240z (HS30 01415) just says 904 (no colour name supplied).

Who did you use to ship them? Jesse Streeter? I've looked at a few wheels in Japan, but found the difficulty is getting the tyres off since that increases the cost of shipping substantially.. -

The colour code was definitely 905, as to weather it was called Flamingo red or Monte Carlo Red may be the semantics of the paint provider? Unique cars was a good website, but who knows where that charge / data comes from? Are you looking to settle an argument or get the right paint code for an actual car? My personal take is that if I was to be painting a 240z in this colour, I'd be using companies that called it Monte Carlo Red :). After all Flamingo's are pink. I can't help but draw some irony in this, given that "series 1" was never a term used by the factory to describe early S30Z's. Did he also insist it was a 69 model? Like so many 240z owners, despite the fact that most HS30's were produced in 70. (NB: I said most - because based on the work that Kats and Alan @HS30-Hdid many years ago, HS30s were produced alongside S30, PS30 and HLS30s in 69, but certainly it's unlikely those cars (HS30s) were actually sold here, rather they were factory pre-production that was destroyed by Nissan.

You've painted it beige haven't you?

Did anyone see the 240z in NZ? It's gone already. From thumbnail I'm guessing it was an HS30. Link in email was https://www.trademe.co.nz/link.aspx?i=12145&id=2951707544&t=cas&s=7023749&c=-610&tm=email&et=45&mt=7F1F0D31-C106-4483-BC9A-C7464ADF110F -

It would appear that way, but there might be issues depending on modifications done. Quite a few HLS30s have made their way over there in recent years. I'm surprised not more HS30s have gone there. Not that I want to see them exported to be honest. -

You may grimace at the prices today. But I recall reading about a car dealer in Oz that owned a 2000gt and said he had sleepless nights when he sold it some years back. For around, wait for it... $300,000.. now of course they are $1m+ Then today I saw this.. https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/1975-toyota-celica-2000-gt-manual/SSE-AD-5441827 I've always felt the early Celica's were under appreciated. Especially TA22s but having seen this 1 today, perhaps it will fetch this money? Which kind of justifies S30z prices. -

I see value on it all day long at $90k. I'm just not sure the Aussie market has buyers who are willing? It definitely makes sense over buying a rusty bucket and trying to bring it to the same standard. But maybe it will exceed $100k? IMHO it should, give the asking price of equivalent cars in Japan these days, but I find our market lags a big because the majority of boomers with the money all want the Aussie muscle cars.. but there is a small niche into the Z's too.
