240ZBUILTBYME - Project Georgia
gav240z replied to 240ZBUILTBYME's topic in Members Project(s) Journal
I can't recall the cost now for the Z-Therapy rebuilds. It wasn't cheap though. They should be able to quote you, but shipping there and back gets expensive. I bought a bunch of cores in the US and sent them direct that way. Problem is getting stung on import duties on the way back. Depends on what you want from the car, but I am a big fan of Triple Mikunis. Weber's tend to be a mixed bag based on when and where they were cast. Mikuni really improved the Solex design over the years.. but they are not cheap either (for good reason). https://www.hemmings.com/stories/article/mikuni -
240ZBUILTBYME - Project Georgia

Getting the needles out can be a pita. I was gonna check you removed the grub screw. Basically what's holding it in is a bunch of carbon build up (probably from the PCV being fed into the intake). You could try soak it in kerosene or use lots of carb cleaner on it and let it sit for a while. I butchered my needles getting them out (with pliers) because I ran out of patience. I kind of regret doing that too! Z-Therapy will give you new needles but the original L24 sized ones are hard to find now and generally the Z-therapy ones are SM needles which are a bit rich..from what I've seen. You won't regret getting Z-therapy rebuilds. I had a bunch (4 sets) done a while ago. I think I sold 2 sets and kept 2. Can get a little expensive. -

As a follow up to the last post and the task that got hung up due to the large video. This interrupted the moving of files between the old local storage on the server to the Amazon S3 storage. I have had a couple of folks message me about broken images in their threads. I assume this is for posts created recently that didn't quite get migrated across (or at least the threads still have references to the old location). For example if you see a broken image in a thread of yours. It will likely be because the image is pointing to: Old location: https://www.viczcar.com/uploads/monthly_2020_08/86997C7A-3CE6-455D-B333-5BD02BE52D84.jpeg.dd50af1c6b86a8de3bffeea114ef4aec.jpeg New location: https://auszcarinvisionbucket.s3.ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/monthly_2020_08/86997C7A-3CE6-455D-B333-5BD02BE52D84.jpeg.dd50af1c6b86a8de3bffeea114ef4aec.jpeg The images themselves have not been deleted, just the referenced location.. If you're having issues please link to the thread where you're seeing a problem here. I've found that if you edit the post you can see the attachments in the bottom of the editor and can fix these images. If there is enough people impacted I'll look at writing an SQL statement to make the updates the short way.. Note: The new location is basically the Amazon storage (static storage) location eg: auszcar invision bucket the next part is the server name s3.ap-southeast-2 (local server in Asia) and amazonaws is the service. This has given us much more scalable storage space for attachments etc.. -
Really what for? Does he rely on the valve cover breather instead?

importing a 280Z from Arizona

It's my understanding that there isa certification process that can take place on the US side (who are aware of Australian requirements) and can provide you with a certification before the car is shipped here. https://www.dazmac.com.au/dazmac-develops-solution-to-asbestos-ban/ -

Don't worry you'll fit right in. A clean LHD shell is not a bad way to go, although with the value appreciation of the cars in North America in the last few years and currency exchange rates and risks of purchasing a dud the prospect is becoming less enticing now. There is a few LHD cars over here. Quite a few rough 240z's purchased on the cheap in the US and brought in as projects have appeared on eBay in the last few years. Driving on the other side feels a bit odd (but I am left handed and find RHD quite natural due to shifting with the left hand) but I've driven a 280z in the US and I'd have no qualms about keeping it LHD over here - especially on a non-daily driven car. The cost to convert is quite high and I think a bit of a sunken cost fallacy to pursue to be honest. -

Welcome, I assume you meant it's LHD so not ideal? -

Gordo takes over the Peter Mac Build.
gav240z replied to Gordo's topic in Members Project(s) Journal
Hey Gordo, The video attached in this post is quite large and causing some background task issues for the community software. When we have the Christmas BBQ let's chat about this in person. Even though we are now using Cloud storage which has done away with some limits on file sizes it looks like video has the potential to just be too large for what the website server is capable of handling (in short term memory). Long story short, I'd recommend uploading this content to Youtube and then publishing a link here (embedded) video into the forum thread for best results. PS: None of this is your fault or anything done wrong, just something to do with our infrastructure limitations. :). -

Background tasks should now be finished. There was an issue with a large file that couldn't be moved to Amazon hosting and was getting stuck in the queue. *Edit looks like it was 1 of @Gordo 's videos so I'll need to see if we can maybe move it to Youtube instead. Raw .mov files are just too large. Images should be re-indexed (fingers crossed). -

It looks like that car was originally silver from factory 901?

Papua new guinea - I guess this just verifies the car HS30 00012 did indeed come from there!

The big asking price is surely a joke or is it Japan's equivalent of Edward Lee's at work here?
-
Position of the rad hose suggests it had an L-series in it. Not an S20. Is the front of the car the same front it left the factory with?

Different trim sets offered from factory
gav240z replied to Millerman's topic in General Discussions
As I mentioned over PM. I've observed some later model S30Z's had cloth trim. But your trim looks after market and later retrim to me. Keep in mind vinyl is sweltering hot in Aussie sun and wasn't the most pleasant material to sit on with 35+ degree summer days. So people had the cloth inserts done to make it nicer to sit in. I had a quick look for Japanese market cars because I've often seen cloth interiors on them. All I could find was this 2+2. https://www.goo-net-exchange.com/usedcars/NISSAN/FAIRLADY_Z/700080285730171018001/index.html I don't think the drivers seat is original, could be wrong but the rest may be original or a subtle re-trim. Brian Long's book may have reference photos. https://www.amazon.com.au/Datsun-Fairlady-Roadster-280ZX-Hardbound/dp/1904788076 I have a copy somewhere but since I moved house I still haven't unpacked my books due to not having purchased a book shelf yet! You can blame covid for that. I did find this also. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/283945348882 I feel I've seen this trim type in more than 1 S30Z before, so I feel it's quite possible it's original. But my knowledge of late model S30Z's, especially S31s in Japan is quite limited compared with say earlier cars. @HS30-H what's your knowledge on later model interior trim options and styles? -

Also had a good roof dent and a few other areas of lifting paint. Bonnet was also bent down from prior front end knock. But it's running / driving and not much visible rust. -
And as you said these old Datsun's are the vintage cars you can drive hard without the fear of breaking them.
