reverendzed Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Thought I'd better get the next project up and going....this replaced another 2+2 project that was 80% done as that went to a new home this week to be finished off by a mate of mine who has just entered the world of zeds! As some of you know this was one of those amazing finds that I thought everyone else found! but nevertheless by keeping a vigilant eye out I came across this beauty which is one of the cleanest Zed's i've seen. I bought it minus the motor and trans and now the fun begins. I have a reco L26 that will go in with 240 SU's, reupholstered interior, nice wheels and lowered and will probably become my daily....time will tell. Anyhow today I stripped most of the engine bay and found no surprises (great ) went in and primed, black laquered up to the rails and then layed down color (Nissan classic white)...I love the clean look of a white car! hopefully Motor in soon and then the fun begins with hooking it all up as I've never done the engine side of things before! reverendzed Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 I was fortunate enough to see another Zed brothers Ebay parts update in Sth Aussie which put me onto these nice 15X8 Sportsmax wheels which will look nice tucked under the new beast. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 13, 2009 Moderators Posted February 13, 2009 I'm surprised the battery area is so rust free! You've found an excellent project there Dave! It's going to be one great zed when your done. Keep up the great work. Quote

Administrators gav240z Posted February 13, 2009 Administrators Posted February 13, 2009 You don't waste anytime Rev straight into it. Good to see mate. Quote
C.A.R. Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Not many people know this, but the reason Rev gets so much done is because he doesn't sleep It's looking good Bro - keep it up! Quote
HELLFIRE! Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Nice work rev! Have you sourced an L26 and box yet? Quote
reverendzed Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 I'm using the L26 from my previous project, the motor was reco apparently 12 years ago, driven 300km and that's where it sat until I got it 2 years ago...I have had it running and it seemed to run OK but I guess time will tell. It has an auto trans with it however I am playing with the idea of doing another manual conversion and I have been offered a 280zx box for $200, I've got everything else, pedals etc...I have to make up my mind if it's gonna be a daily or not, that may make the decision in regard to transmission. C.A.R. Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Manual, Manual, MANUAL!!! Only girls drive Auto's to work! Quote
reverendzed Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 yeah..well I'm kinda past the age of peer pressure ...but if I do decide to sell it, it would be better as a manual! Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 14, 2009 Moderators Posted February 14, 2009 Well Dave, if you do go the auto way, please feel free to throw the manual brake and clutch pedals through my windscreen anytime! I'm looking everywhere for some! Quote
Zeddophile Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Well Dave, if you do go the auto way, please feel free to throw the manual brake and clutch pedals through my windscreen anytime! I'm looking everywhere for some! I did have the thought a few months ago that it may be possible to cut the sides of an auto brake pedal off to use it as a manual pedal... had a quick look at the one laying around, but can't remember if it was actually feasible or not, and don't still have the bits lying around. C.A.R. Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 /thread hijack. I have both an auto & manual PB sitting here. I should do a comparrison... Quote
lightmaster240z Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 rev there is nothing wrong with a auto for the older driver :-\ :-\ happy with mine and lurch was not that much faster than me ?? Quote
C.A.R. Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Hahahaha! Your brakes cooled down yet, Bruce? Quote
Dingo Dave Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Nothing wrong with auto. as long as your a cripple. Lol. Manuals are so much fun to play with. But its up to the cripple. I mean the non cripple if he wants it. I must be getting old myself. I am over lowered cars and flashy paint and loud exhaust. You know a little lower on most cars is ok. but when you take out the springs you are just plain stupid. A nice easy paint job is good. and easy to look after. Loud exhausts suck when driving to a while. Still like my clear sounds systems though. Although my tast in music is better now too. Sorry side tracked. Mate that car has a good owner. Cant wait to see you finish it. the way you want it. Quote
Brabham Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 As an example of the high regard that auto zeds are held in I could have bought an auto box off ebay for 99c. Rev I know you don't respond to peer pressure but I appeal to your sanity! Or at least think of someone who may buy it down the track! Quote
modular9 Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 I'll chirp up here. I have an auto 260z and a manual mg midget. I also use both in rush hour. Hmmm the constant shifting up and down to move 1 metre can get a little annoying after the first hour. the set and forget auto is nice and simple and lets you get on with the more important things in life ( looking at girls , reading bumper stickers , moving 1 metre every 2 minutes , and of course looking at girls ). Now I know a non synchro MG box is a little different to a datsun manual So you wouldnt have to double declutch all the time but I like my auto in the datsun. So depends on the use for the project really. daily or track monster ? Quote
Toecutter Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Nothing wrong with auto. as long as your a cripple hahahahaha Quote
reverendzed Posted April 4, 2009 Author Posted April 4, 2009 I thought it might be time for an update well as mentioned previously the body on this one wasn't to bad although once i got started I found a few of those usual Zed surprises! Ended up i found 3 or 4 rust areas that I cut out and plated. Body work is finished and because it is undergoing a color change (there are enough silver Zeds already!) I've pulled everything apart and have now painted the new color on all of the sills and inners and refitted panels ready for final sand and topcoat. The color is Nissan 'classic' white. I'm off for a weeks holiday and I should have it painted by the end of the month. Rev. Quote
zzzzed Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 wish i had the time that you seem to have. you have done more in a couple of months than i have done in a year well done Quote
reverendzed Posted April 4, 2009 Author Posted April 4, 2009 Thanks Mick but the results come through grabbing as many moments as I can! I try and grab an hour after a dinner and do a bit and by the end of the week that's 5 or 6 hours worth of work and every couple of weeks I put in a day that starts at 8am and finishes at 10pm ( I get a day off in the week as well as Saturday) the progress is my motivation! forgot to add a couple of pictures of the rear end remodel and my drivers side door repair which had been smashed in, after beating it out and a 'smear' of filler it has come up pretty nice. Rev. Quote
zzzzed Posted April 4, 2009 Posted April 4, 2009 yeh the motivation is the hardest part. Its even worse now i have another one that is on the road Quote
