Hi. Had the Plates custom made in US while I visited SEMA in November. I can not recall the business who did it for me. The new wheels will need to be mounted when the car is finished. Thinking Yokohama tyres

OK, so car not together yet, but thinking new engine. The old L24 is OK, but thinking of getting stroker built and at the same time finishing off the engine bay when the engine is out.

Just ordered new plates from RTA online. OLD240, premium black with white letters. The old 'rusty' plates just just wont work anymore.

Does this mean you are moving to QLD.  Thought the OLD might have been a typo. LOL  8)

Hi Andrew,

With regard to your chrome strip trim on the tail lights, I have use a business called The Bronzing Studio in Castle Hill to re-chrome many plastic parts. You have gone to a lot effort to restore you lights and for the extra $160.00 it makes a big difference.

Once re-chromed, tape up what you do want to paint and spray with Holts plastic primer (2 coats is enough) from Repco. I have found Tamiya flat black model paint in the small spray can works really well to give the the original finish.

I have also found CT18 cleans the housing very well, prepsol can also be used afterwards to remove any left over marks. My housings were fairly ordinary to start with and came up like the images attached.

NOTE: Prepsol will remove the original stamped markings on the housing, try to avoid this area if originality is wanted.

Your lights should then look better than you. A polishing wheel on a bench grinder is a quick way to get perfect lenses if you are lazy like me.....

Cheers,

Aaron

Thanks Aaron, appriciate the tip. You should have not posted these pictures. Your lights look so much better then mine, I thought I was the only mad man here. Did you buy the felt tips or made them up?. I will go and see the chroming place you recommended and paint the insides too. My new gaskets arrived from US today together with a bunch of other bits and pieces. Thanks again!

OK, 40mm tripple Mikuni Carbs ordered. Engine next, hope I get some time to put the car together and enjoy the last days of the current L24. Brakes and revised suspension next.

Sad to say but I made them....

One of the best parts of a resto is the boxes of parts that arrive, I still buy things now even if I don't need them.

I know the sickness. Everytime I see a better part I buy, thinking I sell the lesser quality part, I dont. :-[

OK, so going mad on upgraded brakes front & rear (discs), New Stroker engine out of US + racing clutch, flywheel and other bits and pieces. Should all arrive in 2 months or so, gives me more motivation to get my act together on the reassembly of interior/exterior parts.

+ electronic dizzy, long tube headers ceramic coated + new master + slave cylinders. Thinking gearbox upgrade and diff next, then I'm done....maybe  ;D

Hi Mossy,

Are these wheels leather ???

Does anyone know the diameter of the wheels.

The best thing I did with my zed was remove the 350mm momo I had on it when I first put it back on the road. Returning to the original 390mm wheel transformed the car when driving on b grade roads.

Cheers,

Aaron

Hi Andrew,

I am going to go for an RB gearbox upgrade. I have rebuilt my original gearbox and it is uncomfortably noisy inside the cabin,  I have used extensive dynamat and dynapad inside and still the only thing I can hear is gearbox.

The conversion is around $1200.00 + the rebuild cost of the RB if needed, this should make life more comfortable.

I am not sure what your end goal is so noise may not be of concern.

R200 LSD with CV conversion should be strong enough for the rear. I thought that urethane bushes would be a good idea initially, but I have since changed all the rear end bushes back to NOS rubber. This improved comfort and driveability on b grade roads by 300%, the only trade off is a louder bang from the diff under hard accelaration gearchange.

If every road was smooth like a race track then definitely urethane is better.

Cheers,

Aaron
