Agno Posted January 31, 2012 Author Posted January 31, 2012 Quick update! I won best 260Z at the Christmas BBQ which was a pleasant surprise, saying that if there were a few more 260Zs there not in their project/rebuilding phase I dare say my title aspirations would have been significantly slimmer! I have also installed a new windscreen seal, inner and outer hatch seals and door seals. The car is now so much quieter... and less smelly! The only little qualm I have with my seals is that the passenger door seal sits up slightly and makes the passenger door harder to close and also rolls up slightly inside of the door frame. I'll get a photo if I remember. On top of that I also picked up my new rear spoiler from Alfa Motorsports. Really good to deal with and first look the fit and finish is quite good. I would like to have the spoiler painted and fitted to the car by the 26th of Feb for the classic Japan car show but jetting off to Thailand on Friday morning for 2 weeks will make that a tricky task unless I can find someone by Thursday! Spray painters looking for an easy cash job and a zed to joyride in for 2 weeks inquire within! FINALLY, shopping around for some new carbs. Have a few leads, just waiting to hear the right words before I pull the trigger! Quote
Corsa224 Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Hi agno, Who did your door cards for you, they look like new. Quote
Agno Posted January 31, 2012 Author Posted January 31, 2012 Certainly not new. They curl up in the corners and the chrome has lifted. It's on the to do list to get some new ones made eventually Quote
Agno Posted February 18, 2012 Author Posted February 18, 2012 Had a rear spoiler painted and fitted: Pretty happy with the looks of the car right now. Just need some wider wheels for the front and a rear guard roll to accommodate a fatter tyre and we are off to the races! Quote
Agno Posted May 1, 2012 Author Posted May 1, 2012 Been a while since an update! After seeing Saxon's beast with his nice and complete interior and driving to Phillip Island in silence I cracked the shits and bought myself a factory radio: Unfortunately the volume knob was sheared off in transit from the states but I am taking it to a vintage car radio repair specialist and hopefully he can fix it. If not, I'll just find another more crappy one and cannibalise it for parts! I have also been collecting bits and pieces in preparation for some new carbies, just waiting on Pete to rebuild them and I will be at his place quicker than you can say F**k yeah! Also got some interior bits in the same package. And to round off this larger than usual update I am nearly ready to start a Hilux front brake swap. So far I have some S12-8 vented calipers, TP Magna disks, a 15/16 series 1 280ZX brake master cylinder and rebuild kits for everything. I hope that this weekend I can have everything cleaned, kitted and ready to go for another day in the not too distant future. Big thanks to Gareth for sending me through some information about his brakes because my setup is going to be very similar. Quote
DreamZproject Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 Hey Alex, bit of an odd question here... I really liked the door unlock knobs you had (the ones with the little "Z" on them). Would you have ANY idea where they came from, I know its an odd thing to obsess over, but I remember the first thing i saw when getting in your car were those awesome little white Zeds! Hope the cars still running well! Quote
Agno Posted May 21, 2012 Author Posted May 21, 2012 Thanks mate, hope yours is moving along. I got them from this guy: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/99985-ztek-billet-z-parts-consolidate-group-buy-list/ You can now also get all of those bits from MSA but dealing with David was easy enough. Personally I like the stock ones a bit more these days so if you want mine msg me and we can work out some sort of deal. While I'm here I should say I ordered some new wheels, they should be here in 6-8 weeks. Also last night I started pulling apart a spare set of tail lights to polish them up and recondition them to like new. Progress is going to be slow though because I'm very busy at work and uni this month Quote
Agno Posted May 30, 2012 Author Posted May 30, 2012 So I fitted the radio I got from Simon into the car (just to fill the hole, radios are different and can't interchange parts): I thought in the rats nest of wiring I have behind the console I had the appropriate wiring but It looks like I don't! If anyone has any photos of how the stock radio mounts to the console (frame/bracket?) and some photos of the loom it would be greatly appreciated if you could share. I had to Macgyver a bracket to make it sit properly! Quote
saxon Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 From memory, there is a bracket which screws into either side of the console, and the tuner and volume nobs hold the plastic face plate on. I can take a photo of the loom in a couple of weeks for you if no one else can help. Quote
luvemfast Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 radios are different and can't interchange parts Bugger On the up side, it looks great Quote
Agno Posted June 23, 2012 Author Posted June 23, 2012 Got my 15/16ths BMC back from being resleeved and rekitted, looks hot and hopefully I will be able to fit it up tomorrow! Also I have started getting together the parts required for a triple carb conversion. So far I have the manifold, linkages, soft mounts, trumpets and filters and just need the carbs and the whole thing will be ready to rock! I will be buying some Dellorto 40 DHLAs and I have been given the option of choosing whatever jets, chokes and tubes I want from the seller (Alfa1750 on eBay). If anyone has any tips to give about these carbs or maybe even jetting settings they have or a recommendation for a stock L28 with an exhaust it would be greatly appreciated (pic stolen from Moorabbin Auto Spares) Also got a set of headers from Michael a few weeks back. I plan to have new flanges welded on to suit my exhaust, an o2 sensor bung welded in for a wideband and then try have it ceramic coated before I put them on with the carbs, I'm not sure if they will be able to because of the surface rust but I can always try. Again if anyone has any recommendation for ceramic coating I'm all ears! Quote
Scoota G Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Bugger On the up side, it looks great I have a radio from an 82 Bluebird, wanna try that for parts? Quote
luvemfast Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 I'm sure Scoota can help with jetting recommendations. As for plating, there is a place near work my wor, in Oakleigh, that does it. From what I've seen, looks pretty good. Quote
Agno Posted June 23, 2012 Author Posted June 23, 2012 Do you happen to know what the model is Scoota? The parts I need are for a Hitachi KM-1520ZC which is my broken radio, the frequency knob and adjustment mechanism is very unusual and that's why the other radio didn't work. The KM-1520ZC was also used in 72 & 73 240Zs with an FM radio but with the 240 face plate obviously. I have heard about them actually Simon, a price a friend of mine got for ceramic coating from them was quite cheap. I need to check them out I think. Quote
Agno Posted June 27, 2012 Author Posted June 27, 2012 picked these up today. I'll do a longer write up about them tomorrow Quote
Agno Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 Dellortos are all stripped and ready for cleaning, after that some seal kits will be going through them and they will be ready to go onto the car! The aux venturi and choke had siezed quite badly inside of the RHS barrel of the middle carb so that will need a quick going over with some emery paper but aside from that no dramas. Put on some headlight covers too for good measure. I'm not 100% convinced I like the look of them and the fit of the passenger side lense is poor. I'll try to remount the tabs on the passenger side and decide after that: Quote
Agno Posted July 17, 2012 Author Posted July 17, 2012 Now with matching wheels (thank Christ! 10 week wait) and some nice chunky 225/50/R15 tyres. Very happy with how it's looking right now, especially with stock guards and no scrub! Need to get cracking on the Hilux calipers and carbies now I think... Quote
Scando Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 The wheels look great. They look like the perfect offset and suit the Z very nicely. Quote
Scoota G Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Do you happen to know what the model is Scoota? The parts I need are for a Hitachi KM-1520ZC which is my broken radio, the frequency knob and adjustment mechanism is very unusual and that's why the other radio didn't work. I'll check this week. Better to PM if you have a question specifically aimed at me Quote
saxon Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 looks like you might have another best 260z award in the bag come christmas Quote
Scoota G Posted July 21, 2012 Posted July 21, 2012 Radio i have is a phillips am/fm model number OF-63B. Has the Datsun logo on the front! Quote
Agno Posted August 17, 2012 Author Posted August 17, 2012 Finally got around to fitting my new brakes today: The only thing that irks me slightly is that the caliper isn't centred on the rotor, it is my understanding that 260Z hubs and S12+8 brakes are supposed to line up perfectly, unless my memory is playing funny buggers on me... who knows. Also I bought some linkage wheels for the Dellortos a few days ago only to find that they sent me the wrong ones so still waiting on bits and pieces before they can go on Aside from that I have a new fuel pump (Pierburg tiny thing), freshly HPC coated headers and some restored tail lights to go onto the car before Skyline Nationals in Goulburn the second weekend of September. Cutting it fine as usual Quote
