Ledge Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Hey Guys As I'm restoring an early 240 (chassis 00068) i am wondering what you guys think is a good tastefull mod and what would be destroying an early 240. I will be starting a project journal soon. Regards Paul Quote
benny Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Hey Ledge, IMO anything along the lines of the 432 range is ok... flares, spoiler, mikunis, watanabes etc. Remember it is your car so you do what you want!! Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 27, 2011 Moderators Posted February 27, 2011 As above with Benny; anything like a 432 or a ZG. Keeping any additions period correct is usually safe. Except for sunroof's etc... As long as you don't put a shopping list of stickers down the door, I think you will be fine. Quote
chris240 Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 If I had No.68 I wouldnt be putting any flared bolt-on arches on it or rear spoiler for that matter. sometimes less is more, especially with the classic lines of a zed. my 5 cents Quote
KatoKid Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Go crazy, do want you want as long as it can be reverted to original latter on if desired. This rules out flares but not much else. Quote
luvemfast Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Number 68 Awesome, is that the lowest one here? Do what you like, but I'd go concourse on such a low and desirable number! Quote
Sirpent Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 On that numbered car, you would have to say that you stick to outright originality and basically add anything that appeared in the official Nissan perfrmance catalogue as add on's. Thats being safe while dressing the girl up. Quote
Ledge Posted February 27, 2011 Author Posted February 27, 2011 Hi Thanks for the opinions guys. The car has the 240 motor in it with triple Weber's so i think they will stay (cause they look good) It also has holinger gears in the box so i think its smart to keep that in for strength Also has an r200 but I'm thinking of going back to the r180 as I'm keeping the motor only mild cam and bit of porting with the Weber's so doesn't really need the r200. As for interior I'm going all original. No extra gauges or 1/2 cage . External I'm thinking of sectioning struts to get it lower. probably some 16" watanabe's to fill up the guards No flares . Although i like the look of the ZG flares i don't think i could do it to number 68. Love the mirrors on the front guards although useless . Colour choice at the moment is either Orange or Gold. . Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Like has been said before it is your choice. But I like more traditional themes. Have you thought about a East Africa theme? You know the tan with black bonnet. Quote
luvemfast Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I like your plans for it Ledge. Right on the money IMHO It's like real estate. Sometimes people spend lots of time and money on doing something a bit out there, to their taste. Very hard to get right, I may have even fallen victim with my car? Or houses? Less is more! You don't want to ruin it. Look forwards to seeing the build. Quote
nizm0zed Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 i think you have to seriously ask your self "are you ever going to sell it?" If you are, like said, keep to period correct mods out of the catalouge or pure concorse condition. If not, do what you want, its your car. I never plan to sell my car, so im modifying it the way i want (not that a 260 is worth more that a 240, even though less of the 2 seaters made it into the country) As for putting flares on it, if you want to do it, then go for gold. Skins can allways be replaced, and if you dont want to cut the rear guards, you can allways leave it jacked up a bit and adjust the bumpstops so it wont bottom out. screw holes in a guard are very easy to weld over and make a seamless repair. peter mc Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 i would love to have a concourse 240z and then the next day i would love to have one with a ls1 in it with flares .AR i just love them .it your car your dream do what you want to it .if it look as good as your other car I'm sure it will be a fine ride Quote
benny Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 must have fuzzy dice mick you've hit the nail on the head.... A must have!! Quote
NZeder Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Number 68 Awesome, is that the lowest one here? Do what you like, but I'd go concourse on such a low and desirable number! No - Peter Campbell has posted on here before and he is the owner of my old 240z 00016 - and Pete is modifying 00016 some what - nothing that could not be undone if need be but again your car just do with it as you wish and enjoy Quote
Scoota G Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I like this one. Was good to meet you the other day too, Paul http://speedhunters.com/archive/2010/04/13/car-feature-gt-gt-office-tomitaku-s30.aspx Quote
KatoKid Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 +1 Scoota Can anyone confirm the colour on this car? Quote

Ledge Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 Hi Scoota Yep that ones sweet. Dont like how high it is. Hope you guys had a good run home. Always good to meet other members problem here in SA is there aint that many. the colour looks like 918 Orange Katokid Thats one of my choices of colour and i do like the black bonnet Fuzzy dice a must have for any 70's car. Peter mc26, Thats why im not after a big horsepower road car asi have the RB in the track car that gets my speed fix out of the way so this will be a nice cruiser. Galderdi. Yes i do like the black bonnet look as you can tell by my other car , Do you have a pick of the tan ? Nizmozed, I dont have intensions to sell it but some times s**t happens and the toys are the first to go. If i put the flares on i would have to cut the arches out as i like my cars as low as i can get them and i dont think the look is worth the cutting. Regards Paul Quote
Brabham Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 My vote goes to keeping it factory with numbers that low Quote
Ledge Posted March 2, 2011 Author Posted March 2, 2011 Hi Guys, Well the general opinion appears to be along the lines of what i was going for anyway which is "Dont Stuff with it to much as its a pretty early car" So Thanks all for your input . Regards Paul Quote
GV260 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 For what it is worth Paul I have a low number 240 (408) and I have almost completed (ie 99%) a 2.5 yr full resto on it. It's a full-on tarmac rally car but visually I have kept the original lines with only adding factory spec front and rear spoilers, as well as a 432 grill. I have original brand new 240Z door mirrors on both sides. Rims are after market but are Nismo branded Enkei rims. Interior wise I have a full welded in cage and Velo race seats but have kept the full original interior (all brand new) to keep its originiality plus an aftermarket Nismo steering wheel and gear knob. The whole interior is black so from a distance you don't notice the full cage and race seats. Mechanical wise it has a full race spec L28 (as original L24 was lost) running triple 45s (making 154 rwkw), with adjustable struts, R32 front calipers, R31 rear calipers and R200LSD. It has been resprayed in its original factort spec red which is actually a very nice colour red. Thus from a distance its looks very original except for the rims (and large exhaust); it's only on closer inspection that its real purpose is identified. My navigator has just purchased chasis 232 but as it is a complete car with matching numbers he will restore it to full factory spec and keep it as his Sunday driver (he has an STi as his daily one). Ultimatley the above two early build cars have different purposes and are being restored accordingly. And therein lies your answer. Restore it to how you intend to use it BUT if you do modify it keep it to factory options for visiable things given yours is a complete matching number one. And for originality respray it it's original colour (which is?) But that's just my opinion...... Quote
zlion Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 One of my all time favorite tasteful. Is to upgrade the exhaust with a 2 1/2 inch pipe. Also throw on some headers, with a really nice muffler. Also a nice front spoiler to add some character. Lastly a sexy pair of shoes (wheels). If your not looking to cut upo your car. Then i wouldn't add flares. But it's your car "enjoy the ride". Quote
Jason89 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Im in the same boat as Ledge, The way i see it, if your going to go through building a car, investing heaps of time and money you should have it the way you want it. I think all period mods are ok, engine conversions arnt. My car will have, ZG flares, Watanabes and a L series. Thats my opinion. Quote
