chartoo Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Check it out. Looks interesting. Never heard of it. Is it really a 140z or is it just badged that way? http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Datsun-140z-2-door-coupe-/220635688179?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_Cars&hash=item335ee96cf3 Quote
haul Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 They were made in South Africa in 1977-1978 only about 300 made, they are based on the 120y, although they had a L14, twin 40mm dellorto carbs, made about 85kw. You could definitely have some fun with it. Cheers Tony Quote
stevofoxono Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 then as another interesting one theres a 160z, basically same as the 140z/120y but with the 1.6 and came in yellow+black (much like the 2 tone 280's) only in south africa. Finding new z's+googling info on them is brilliant xD Quote

Zeddophile Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 South africa got a lot of interesting cars. I know the got xy / xw fords there They also got Alfa GTV6s (mid 80's model) with a 3 litre v6 motor instead of the 2.5 v6. They had triple carbs on them instead of the Bosch L-jetronic fuel injection, and there were about 200 of them produced to homologate the car for racing. Quote
chris240 Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 geez thats different allright.. those tripple tailights .. Quote
NZeder Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Also sold in Japan as a Sunny Excellent - Nissan also did the B110 aka 1200 as a Sunny Excellent with L14 power. If Nissan had not tried to do the 10a rota in the 1200 the plan was to have the twin cam LZ14 fitted to PKB210 aka Sunny Excellent coupe like this one - however the bean counters killed that off too much like how the designers of the S30 wanted to have the light covers fitted standard Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 "Up for sale is probably the only Datsun KPB 210 in Australia", no, there is another. A guy in Wanneroo has one rusting away in his back yard. For $7500, your probably bettor off finding a 120Y and doing the engine swap yourself, and save yourself a wad of cash in the process. Quote
MaygZ Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 South africa got a lot of interesting cars. I know the got xy / xw fords there They also got a Perana - a Ford Capri with a 351 in them. Quote
V8Datto Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 They also got a Perana - a Ford Capri with a 351 in them. I know someone with a V8 Perana, still in original condition and drives it most days, not the best looking car but they sound awesome Quote
riaan140z Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 good day guys, Im from South Africa and one of my 140z datsuns was imported to Australia a few years back, i have 2 140z datsuns at the moment, 1 roadcar with a race car in progress and one 160z busy doing a rebuild. The 140z datsun was only available for 2 years due to homoligation rules stipulating there had to be 150 cars made to compete in the famous wynnes 1000 race at kyalami, thus 306 was built over the 2 years.. here is some pics Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted October 28, 2013 Administrators Posted October 28, 2013 Old thread, but welcome. I spent 3 months in South Africa and saw a 120Y coupe in Cape Town near, at the airport actually. I also saw a 510, but not many Datsun's in general. Love the picture of the Silver / Red interior combo 120Y coupe you posted. Great combo. Can you tell us more about how these cars were used in racing? Some of their special features etc..? Quote
riaan140z Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 Hi i just stumbled on the thread ha ha, Well its not a 120y its a 140z I'm the second owner, 15 384km on the clock, number 56 of 306. the model code is a KPB 210 GKQ Where as the normal 140y was just the KPB210. Engine wise The 140z datsun came out with a L14 engine fitted with a special cam manufactured by Richie Jute, two dellorto side draughts and a big port A87 head that was matched vs the intake manifold. Exterior the front spoiler and rear ductail spoiler was introduced with fendor mirrors and alloy 13 inch rims, they had blacked out interior with sporty rally seats. The racing car also had the same L14 engine only with allot more detail that went into the head, bigger skyline valves, rocker ratio's, porting and a s280 cam. the sub assembly was balanced and fitted with a light weight clutch. a pair of 48 webber carbs gave the feul, standard 4 speed gearbox and a borg warner rear end fitted with a LSD, front suspension saw double ventilated discs and 4 pot brakes. Coilovers was also used and a stiffer stabilizer bar. The exterior they fitted it with a set of wheel arches to cover the 14inch x 9 j wide split compomotives with slick tyres. here is some pics of the 140z race car as per 1978 Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted October 30, 2013 Administrators Posted October 30, 2013 Thanks for sharing those photos, great to see them in racing livery. Sounds like the race car version was a very well sorted machine. You don't see many of the B210 coupe's on the road over here anymore. I remember seeing them quite frequently but not anymore. Quote
