Some mother f@*%!er tried to steal my 240z from my apartment complex in St Kilda (Vic)  >:(.

They got through the secured gate, lifted up the cover I had on it, and destroyed the ignition system. Luckily I have an emobilizer and must have run out of time to disconnect it.

The most annoying thing is that I was driving it back to the farm for storage down the Mornington Peninsula and it was a ripper day to drive...not too hot  :(......now to the mechanic to fix and an excess to pay  >:( >:(

I guess our cars are becoming more appealing as the price goes up.

Anyway, I know you guys would understand my anger and pain :'(

just makes u want to cry, and thump someone.

I found a guy peering thru the window of mine, stupid me i thought he was an enthusiast, so i wandered up and said what a nice car, and he panicked and faked it and said it was his, told me all about what he had done.

he was doing ok until i unlocked the car and stared him out until he bolted....

many years ago

i was at a club and run out of smokes, went to my zed to get my smokes and found a young 18- 19 yr old trying to remove my stereo,i calmly i  asked what he was doing and the poor kid went white and i am sure he soiled himself, he tried to run and unforetuatly for him  i was quicker and a few kilos heavier,

this is where my dilema began what do i do  hmmmmmmm i looked to the right and saw a nice old hardwood telegraph pole, so i guided this poor scared kid to the pole and proceeded the rub his hands up and down the pole, i am sure he was screaming and in alot of pain.

basically all i said was " next time you try and steal someone elses property remember to look at your hands and remember the pain and agony you went through for the  4 weeks".

i got my smokes from the car and went a had a enjoyable beer

My mate awoke recently to find someone breaking into his car. He is normally quite sedate fellow but he really loves his car. Anyway he ended up teach the teenager a brief lesson with his first and when he ran off he forgot his bike so now my mate has a free one.

You have to ask the question how did they know it was there? It's not as if it was on the street. It's worthwhile taking them to the middle of nowhere, tie them up and leave em for dead!

Thanks guys...there is a contruction site next door and it only takes one pr!ck builder to tell someone about the car and who can steal it (no offence to the good builders out there).

Good news is that the tow truck was able to get it out and it is off to the mechanic to get it fixed like new!!!

Remember that it is always good to have an imobilizer...although my 2.5 inch exhaust could have woken me up...if they could have started it  ;)

I don't know the name, but it is a coded magnetic thing that is hidden within the ignition and the only way to start it is have the matching magnetic thing on the key ring activate it. It is simple and effective. It cost about $200 to install.

God help the guy who tries to steal my Z if I catch him ;). Good to hear it wasn't stolen, but definitely someone wanted your car that's for sure.

At Google we got special bikes with Google written on them. I ride my bike to work everyday and one morning I came out to discover someone had helped themselves to my Google bike, out of all the bikes there they wanted that 1. It still gives me rage that they stole it and it was just a damn bike.

I had my Corolla broken into a few years back, before I could afford full insurance. The pricks didn't just steal my stereo, they smashed the centre console getting it out, they bend the drivers door so far backwards it ruined the hinges and bent the front panel and ruined the door skin, they ripped the antenna off and broke the window getting in, they also let the air out of the tires. The alarm went off, but it didn't deter them smashing it up. I guess being parked on a higher level later at night means nobody is around to stop them. Camera's were only on the entrance and police couldn't lift a fingerprint or couldn't be bothered either way.

I'm pretty certain I know who did it too, when I arrived at the car park we saw a gang of youths hanging out the front of the shopping centre entrance and they just stared at the car as we drove in. Its a fair bet either jealousy, boredom or a combination of both made them decide to go find the car and break into it. They would have been about 15-17 and too young to drive.

As a broke uni student I had only 3rd party insurance, so I wore the full brunt of expenses. I then decided to fix it up and sell the Corolla, which I then used the money to buy my current 240z. So in a round-about-way they did me a favor although I really wish I could have caught them doing it.

At least they didn't get it, doesn't make you feel warm and fuzzy though, does it.......

I would consider getting an immoboliser, only that my car is more often than not, not running due to some kind of upgrade or mechanical repair.

At the moment its up on stands (where it has spent most of the last 2 years) with the gear box removed ready for a rebuild at Hollinger (best mate works there).

So theives would need a crystal ball to steal it when its actually running.

Well I could say my first car (not a zed) was stolen 3 times in 6 months, got it back every time - well had to purchase it off the insurance company as they wrote it off the books, not from damage just value in replacing the mags and stereo, the last time it was damage but only minor front fender bend after they left the road with the cops in tow - it had a large exhaust by then so I heard it start up and drive down the road = cops call right away and 1 hour later they nicked some gas and broke into a hardware store so the cops were on to them....long story but they were only 13-14 ie minors = wet bus ticket for them only :(

Then I had a motorbike stolen - was never found.

Back to the zed and protection. There are many immoblisers on the market - and now RFID alarms/immobilisers the car won't start without the correct key or keyfob. Check out how the ECU's on E36 and above BMW work with the key, loose the key and the ECU will start but only for 5 seconds = you need to get the car to a BMW agent.

Check out these setups

That magnetic system is made by cyclops. I have one in my zed, apparently so the guy that fitted it said they have never had a car stolen when thiere device is fitted. Was told by shannons to fit it when i bought the car 9yrs ago otherwise they wouldnt insure me! $200 well spent i think!

I've also thought of getting a quick release steering hub so when i park the car overnight i take the steering wheel with me  ;D Try and steal that! lol. Not sure if its legal or ok with insurance in event of accident.

Sorry to say this guys, but if someone wants your car bad enough, there is not much you can do to stop them (other then have the car locked on a hoist or something).

I use to work in town and you would often see cars being towed by a truck with the alarms going off. The truck drivers could pull up, have the car tied down and be driving off in under a minute. No one even batts an eyelid at it.

The tracking device sounds like a good idea, but make sure it is hidden and the theifs don't know about it (i.e, steve don't put it in your build thread).

Didn't even think of that, very good point. If I DO get a tracing device I won't post it on the forum. However I would still like to hear from anyone that has got one.

True that - my motorbike that was stolen never to be seen again, had a disc lock, rear chain lock and it still went missing - so in the back of van was the cops best guess.

I have heard of hot rods and harley owners having their cars/bike locked down to the ground, with kill switches and alarms and then an alarm on the building/garage and they still go missing. So if someone wants your car it is gone.

Just looked it up seems there using GPRS and NextG for the tracking signal now days, looks expensive and ongoing cost to be monitored

I've had a few mates with alarm systems that ring your mobile when the car alarm goes off, I'd say a combination of this and the gps tracking would work the best.

Something I remembered hearing this, one of the best anti-theft systems I've had (well doesn't stop a tilt tray taking your zee) was a Wolf 3D ECU that had a pin code to disable. You would have to enter a pin code to be able to start the engine. Without that, it was impossible to start. There was no way to "hotwire" etc..The engine would just crank over with no fuel or ignition. Shame the latest one doesn't have it.

What he said. Especially on a carby car, an aftermarket immobiliser is easy to bypass, and I'd hazard a guess that I'm among quite a few guys on this forum that could achieve this.  Failing that, drag it away....

This is about the only 'sure fire' way to immobilise the car - having EFI with the immobiliser component integrated into the engine ECU.

Yeah but like I said before the new trackers use GPRS and NextG (some also have gps as well)

So it's like a mobile phone that you can track, they even come with a sim card.

I say just have good insurance, if someone wants your car bad enough well you can't stop them.

Be happy that the insurance payed out and buy another car.

what is it that would desire a person to take it upon their own undertaking to remove a vehicle as this car, without the permission of the owner in the first place ??. i couldnt possibly imagine , does this mean that car thieves have now developed a fussy style of classy cars they lift???

dazzed - It is like anything else in life. Risk vs reward.

Most theives are not going to try and steel something that they can not move for a decent reward. No offence to the owner who almost got his car stolen, but I think there would be much more valuable classics that the theif could have targeted rather then a datsun. Perhaps the risk (parked outside not in a locked garage, those gates can normally be defeated from inside if you jump the fence) was not very great to justify targeting this car.
