RBZ 260 Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 not sure how many of u guys scaning ebay at the moment but came accross this thing. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Datsun-260z-1975-2-2-Sports_W0QQitemZ130350432883QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Cars?hash=item1e597dc273 since photo saving through ebay is pain i went through the trouble saving them as i think it be interesting pics to have here. at first i thought yuk but than there more i look at it, its got potential. The guy has done pretty good job of it. with bit of paint prob wont look too shabby interesting use of shelby mustang side scoops. i wanted to use 240k rear lights when i was working on my 260z. but changed my mind at last minute. wreckers wanted too much for them. chartoo Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I think the workmanship is good but i think the car looks like a mix of too many cars. Too many references from diff cars Quote
Glen Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 To me it needs to be lowered with the right offset on the rims to fill out those flares, even then im still not sure on the rear flutes. Quote
NZeder Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 3 flares is the bit thats got me - he should have done the other front too Quote
Sirpent Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Sorry guys but this just dont do it for me at all, I agree it all looks very add on and there is no flow in the execution. The arches taper straight into the sills rather than continuing and then forming the sills to wrapo outward like on a 911 for instance. Also the edge on the arches come to an apex where I would rather they follow the original "Z" box taper edge. The bonnet scoop looks half decent but would have looked far better starting at the extreme bonnet front edge which would have made it look more fluid with the bonnet and the additional length would have made it look slimmer and lower. The tail lamp treatment is OK, very Ferarri 250GT'ish, but then lose the spoiler and keep the hatch rake clean. The 1/4 vents look out of place, if the front leading edges where angled to the same rake as the 1/4 glass and then mated with the upper 1/4 panel crease edge so they looked like a continuation of the 1/4's then maybe, but otherwise no cigar. Thats my 2 cents worth, feel free to throw knives at my comments if you like.....LOL Cheers John Quote
FLEXZED Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 just want to know what happend to the driver side flare before it was primmed i hate it Loui Quote
Riceburner Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 I've seen some ugly cars and I think this is right up there.... Looks like a cane toad, too many lumps n bumps in all the wrong places! Quote
620Z Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Well the owner clearly had a dream. But like most got sick of the hard work and out lay of coin I dare say. I wonder if anyone will pick it up. I get the feeling this guy will do his balls on the car. Probably like most of us when sold. Probably why I keep mine. Quote
luvemfast Posted December 8, 2009 Posted December 8, 2009 Eewww, this is proof that one person's taste doesn't make it nice to other peoples tastes. But I think that most of us can be found guilty of that, just not as bad Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted December 8, 2009 Administrators Posted December 8, 2009 Sigh this is why I like the Z style left alone. Its perfect the way it is, of course I like the Gnose / Flare look with wide wheels, but trying to adapt different styles has always been off-putting to me. Its not an American Muscle car so stop trying to make it 1. I generally prefer the original set of tail lamps on the Zs although I don´t mind the 240K rear skyline lights and have seen it on Japanese Zs but I would only put them on my Z if I could easily swap them back out again and without cutting the body etc.. I guess I´ve seen my fare share of attempts at improving the Z over the years and the more I think about it the more I prefer them looking externally as close to stock or with factory option parts than anything else. Administrators gav240z Posted December 8, 2009 Administrators Posted December 8, 2009 Incidentally this has got me thinking there should be a Television show for car owners. Kind of like "what not to wear" for fashion victims. Except of course its what not to do to your vehicle, we could go up to people on the street who put Altezza style rear lights on their car and ask them "what were you thinking?". I always feel sorry for guys who have spent loads of money on their import and then advertise it in on carsales, ebay etc.. Asking some ludacris price for something that looks absolutely hideous. Asking some ludacris price for something that looks absolutely hideous. tell me about it. though back on the z mentioned above. my first impressions was yuk. but the rear lights treatment dont look too bad. i would have kept the 2piece garnish and not moulded it with the body. but like gav said if can be installed without too much butchery to original. than again there is nothign wrong with 240z rear light. 260z im not a big fan that individual reverse light. it drive me up the wall. funny u should say i was wondering what happened to the flare on the other guard. he had enough of it. Mr Camouflage Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 It's ludicrous Gav. Ludacris is a rap star, innit. Ai. I think the guy selling it should just stick with it. Get it over the pits again and finish it off. Looks like he's done most of the hard work already. The problem with converting a car into your dream car, is that not many other people would share your vision when you decide to sell it. Quote
BenZed Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 When I had my first zed (fifteen years ago) I thought about fitting 240K sedan lights like that... glad I didn't Quote
