T.A.P Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Hi to all the Oz Z owners out there Ive just brought myself a Z yesterday its a 260z 2+2, 5 spd, SU carb with L28 engine. here are some pics... Some FeOs....nothing major but they're there. The original carpets are still on..I think. Is that a footrest? I have a few questions, please help me if you have the time. What is this lever and two wires for and the hole from the firewall i guessing thats for a/c system? The engine bay's light hooked up the bonnet switch by any chance, cos its not lighting up and the switch is pretty rusted. Im not sure how the previous owner fried the electrical system in the car by installing a new alternator but the clock, volt meter and blower dont work and the entire interrior lighting dont work. I managed to fix the blower but the clock got stung pretty bad. Does anyone know the values of these two resistors? I can probably take them out and solder two new ones in. As for the Vol meter, I guessing its long gone..took it out and connected to the battery but it didnt register any voltage. Cheers Aaron Quote
towndrunkensmurf Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 The lever there is for your choke, should be attached to two cables that go into the engine bay and attach to your SU's. The light is supposed to have a switch on the back of it to turn it on and off, thats the light in the engine bay that is loooks like yours has broken off... Clock and voltmeters not working is a common problem and easiest fix would probably be to replace them, some of the hoarders on here probably have some working ones that they may be able to part with for the right incentive. The two random wires on your firewall i have no idea from just looking at them, try to trace them back to their source. Yes your car should be fitted with a passanger footrest, nifty little things if you ask me Other then your few problems looks like you have picked yourself up a pretty clean car there, nice one mate and welcome to the joys of Z ownership Smurf Quote
T.A.P Posted July 5, 2009 Author Posted July 5, 2009 Thanks Smurf, I have just updated the pics, I didnt post some in my first attempt. No wonder, I found the two choke cables going through the wirewall and wondered how on Earth Im going adjust these while driving...it makes much more sense now. BTW do you know if a air-con setup from a stanza fits in the Z? I dont have aircon as factory but would like one so the summer...it does get pretty hot here in WA. Quote
towndrunkensmurf Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 no idea mate. On a purely mechanical side of things everything in the engine bay shouldnt be a problem as its L-series to L-series, but i think you would have a bit of problem hooking things up in the cabin. You might be better off looking for someone willing to part with a factory setup, or do a search down in the technical section under interior and see if anyone has modified other setups to fit. I considered removing my factory one at one stage, but living in North Queensland it is sort of a necessity(sp) Quote
xa1973 Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Hello Mate and Welcome Looks like you've picked yourself up quite a tidy unit... Any plans for mods or upgrades or you going to keep it stock Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted July 5, 2009 Moderators Posted July 5, 2009 Welcome again and looks like a pretty clean car in need of some tidying up... Those two wires with the blue connectors look like your washer bottle motor power plus and minus. If you windscreen washers don't work, the wires to the motor have been disconnected! I may have some spare 260Z gauges laying around...since I have a 240, they aren't any good to me! Quote
Mr Camouflage Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Hello back at ya from WA I think I have a spare Voltmeter and Clock from a 260Z if you're interested. Quote
T.A.P Posted July 5, 2009 Author Posted July 5, 2009 xa1973, Thanks Im gonna keep it stock for now untill I sorted out all the little things. After that I might drop in an SR20DET, but thats gonna be sometime down the road. Zedman240, The washers motor works fine...Ill try to trace it back to its source. Mr Camouflage, Yea let me know the price and place and Ill grab them . Time to put some more loving into her Cheers Aaron PS: Thanks Zedman240 for the gauges offer, really appreciated. Quote
stevo_gj Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Hey mate, Nice looking Z you have there! Got any engine bay pics? Also, could you type in your location into your profile? That way we can see where you are from when you post in other threads. Welcome to the forums Edit: Weird I swear I couldn't see those before. Probably the Sydney air. Thanks man Quote
T.A.P Posted July 5, 2009 Author Posted July 5, 2009 Steve the engine bay pics should be in my first post. Ill edit my profile. Im from WA btw Zedman240, you are dead right about the washer motor, I don't know how I got the impression that it works...must be from the previous inspections. Quote
RB26DETT Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Welcome, I am in WA too!! Did you pick up the car from Martin - Tuneright in Oakford? Quote
T.A.P Posted July 5, 2009 Author Posted July 5, 2009 Welcome, I am in WA too!! Did you pick up the car from Martin - Tuneright in Oakford? Cheers... No I got off a guy in Butler. Not many of these around in WA... Quote
C.A.R. Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 I'd also start chipping the deadner off the floor & checking them for rust. That surface rust doesnt look good... Quote
T.A.P Posted July 6, 2009 Author Posted July 6, 2009 I'd also start chipping the deadner off the floor & checking them for rust. That surface rust doesnt look good... Thats exactly what Im doing ...Ill buy some por-15 today and seal it for good. Quote
C.A.R. Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 Err... IMHO Not POR15 straight away. 1. Remove deadner. 2. Wire brush the thing like crazy to remove as much of the loose rust as possible. 3. Brush on some rust converter (Phosphoric Acid) & let work for 1hr, then wipe off with some thinners/Wax & Grease remover. 4. Then apply your POR15 or whathaveyou Quote

Indy Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Hi Aaron, Nice to see another WA-Z. Mine is getting ready for the road.I have a complete dash lying in my shed, let me know if you need any gauges, you can have them for free but I am not sure if they all work. Quote
T.A.P Posted August 3, 2009 Author Posted August 3, 2009 Some small update, Ive just KBYed the floor pan and cowl area. I "managed" to vinyled the seats, not the best looking seats in the world but arent too shabby either. Dont mind the "getto" center console, Im still in the process of vinylling it, and she just received GT Grand Prix mirrors Still have alot of plans for her..too bad everything has to be onhold for at least a month...till Im back. FLEXZED Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 i think more padding needs to be installed to fill in all the vinyl Quote
chris240 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 bwaahaha...it took you 54mins lurchos to respond !! your getting slow. Quote
xa1973 Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Shabby but chic...not!! I thought at first glance they were storage covers........... Quote
reverendzed Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Top effort man, you learn by trying and giving things a go, you could possibly remove the original covers (quite easy to do) and unpick the stitching so that you can get a more accurate pattern or template which will give you a tighter fit. Rev. While I agree its not the nicest looking upgrade, I think Rev has a point. The only way to learn is to give it a go. I've fudged plenty of stuff myself in the past. But we learn from the experience. Good effort, but I think you may want to try and refine it a bit. Quote
