hi

I've been a long time admirer of the 240z's. they have been the "old" car that I've always wanted to do up. I'm about to get off my P's and need another car, so it might be the right time for the Z

i checked out one last night, needs a bit of work, but I'm fairly keen on it. plan is for now to give it a backyard spray and get it running. Then just get it regoed and have something to get to work in. Long term probably sort the brakes and suspension out and maybe even a SR :P

So far Ive been into mostly silvia's on my 3rd one atm and drifting, but my latest s14 has turned into too much of a track car for a daily before ive even driven it :(

I know how to swing a spanner and have done everything but the welding on my s14. but i know nothing much about Z specifics so pretty much ill be annoying with dumb questions ;D

first annoying question, is there anyway to quickly diferentiate a L24 and L28 by looking at it

anyway, heres my old/current cars, and hopefully there be a Z to add there soon

thanks

so pretty much the engine number is the only/easiest way to tell, will be like L28XXXXXXX or something like that ???

the red/burgandy/white one was a '90 180sx, had a CA turbo in it. was pretty much a track car because i couldnt drive turbo under p plates. the shiraz/purple one is a '97 series 2 s14/200sx and that my current car. was intended to be daily/track but i havent even driven it and pretty much every suspension componant has been replaced, full bolt in cage ect.... gets defect every 2nd time its been driven  >:(

Hey Locky!

good to see you signed up here.

If your going to the JDMST Eomm next thursday come and say hi and i would be happy to show you a few things!

the s2 s14 usually go for low teens for a stock one

mine was rough and pretty much stock, so i picked it up for less than 10, (not the best example of one, but ive changed alot of the stuff on it already)

yeah thought id sign up and learn a lil before i go ahead with a car purchase, and i wont be gong to the Eomm because ive got no licence, only 1 month to go  ;D

needs a bit of work, but most of the parts are included with the car, (just needs F&R bumpers and a few lil bits and pieces for the engine)

240 with a L28 (still need to doubl check the engine to confirm)

it will be good to tinker with, ive done alot on my s14 but the engine is something im still a lil wary of, so a carbie is something good to get my head around ;D learn by reading, researching then doing is basically what ive been doing and am going to keep giving it a go

You're off to a good start with that! Good engine and carbies to start with. Have you checked the chassis for rust thoroughly? You'll find how trouble free they run when its all setup right. I see the rod you're missing; the one from the firewall to the carbs. I may have a spare one kicking about. I'll check over the next few days and let you know.

yeah when i checked it out the only rust i saw was about the size of a 50c piece in the boot floor

looks like its had a patch up on the drivers side door sil and doesnt really have rust in the usual spots from what ive read

it was parked in a corner with stuff all around it, but before i pick it up, its going to get jacked up to check the undercarrage ect

just found a number saying they were selling a Z on a forum, was local so i checked it out

yes if you have that rod that would be extremly helpful

pritty much i need

the rod between the accelerator point on the firewall and that linkage on the carb.

Filter box

Front and rear bumper

please let me know if youve got these

The rod I think is no problem but airbox/bumpers are on my car so I cant give them away sorry! I'm still trying to locate a front bar as well for my 2+2.

for engine designation its same as sr20 on the side of the block just reads l24, l26, l28. with the engine number behind it.

other than that quickest will be to learn the codes stamped on the side of the block that corresponds to the capacity of the engine like someone mentioned above.

i got a s2 s14 as well u will like the 240z it will be different to the S14 bit more scary and more fun but not that comfortable or nice for long distance as the S14. than again u got a drift car so be pretty close  :P
