Lol you guys...

Of course it's a tax dodge, I would do it too if had a dealer license!! There is even a post on this page FROM THE OWNER of the car! hahaha

That being said, he did sell the Red RS30 when someone offered him enough.

It's actually sold twice (the red one) and i have the wheels off it in my garage. It did 195rwhp and had Kameari everything, we guessed it must have not had a very big cam in it to make so little power for being a 3.1L stroker with triple 44 Mikunis. Very nice car though and had all the bits. To be honest if you added up all the parts on that car it really was a fair price for it.

The 71 240z is a nice car and if you want to pay 35k for it then all power to you. Originally it was a Victorian car that was bought for a few thousand under 20k, then got a paint job and then, it gets put on the market for 35k. If you are in the trade, you might have got the paint job at a good price so the mark up is about 15k at least. Its been on the market for a long time and I suspect that people in the know are not willing at present, maybe in another 5 years it might get there. While there are many people in the business of selling cars, I'd rather pay under 20k like he did than pay the 35k that he now wants. Looking at the market at present there are many people trying to flip cars for a profit. How would you feel if you bought a car for 15k today and found out that a few months ago it was bought for 5k, very clever if you can make money like that, but quite unfortunate if you are the buyer who has spent all his/her life's savings or borrowed money and then you find out. I guess one needs to be very aware of what they should pay.

Have you even bought a car yet Tennis?

The face of the matter is that the owner is a dealer. Applying mark up on cars is his job and frankly he can sell it for whatever the hell he wants, or alternatively not sell it and use it as a tax dodge. I don't think there is anyone here that would not do what this guy has done if they had the chance.

It's worth what someone will pay for it. The 240Z market has also dramatically increased in price from 3 years ago.

If you buy a turn key car, then you aren't looking for a restorer, so if it's so easy to do why doesn't everyone by a $5k restoration project? He could have very easily spent $10k on a paint job depending on what was under the original paint. Looks like the engine has come out for the respray too, so if you are just dropping it off to get painted and say ring me when it's done it can add up very quickly.

Look at the one on carsales that is $65k that guy spent in the region of $80k+ on it because other people did all the work.

What someone else paid for the car is so irrelevant! You know they were sold for circa $5000 so most people are selling them way above what they originally cost.

If you buy a car at a good price why does that mean you can't sell it for more?

You are a dreamer that hasn't bought any car because you think they are worth less than the rest of the market.

At the end of the day, yes he can advertise it for as much as he wants, who cares? if someone pays 35k for it then good luck to Phil. Perhaps when they do a oil change and find the oil filter had 75000km's more written on it than the odometer shows, they can go back and try and get a free set of rims or a few grand back. The question really should be who still buys cars from Import dealerships nowdays? especially Edward Lee's.

As for how id feel buying a car for 15k and finding out it was purchased for 5k, I payed 15k because i thought it was worth that much, and i was willing to pay that much for it. If someone got a awesome price through a deceased estate, or whatever the case may be, all the power to them, You should not be upset when someone gets a good deal out of pure luck, the right place at the right time.

That's a pretty scathing accusation?

Haven't bought a car because in Sydney there hasn't been much for sale. Many of the reasonably priced cars especially in the silver one in the ACT with the red interior was sold quickly and at a good price. Unable to travel interstate due to various constraints .

Businesses or private operators that want to make money from buying and selling cars is not an issue with me, I just like the idea that one gets a fair deal in the end. Most consumers now are quite sophisticated and informed about buying things like cars and houses and are able to make the right decisions. For example, recently a car yard acquired a sport car for $4200  through ebay, tried for over a year to sell it for $12000, but is now for sale for under $6000, because most consumers know what it is worth. I also know of a dealer who recently tried to sell a sports car for $8000 but had trouble selling it because it had some issues. This car went for under $3000 at a local auction yard. Those who know their market well will generally make the right decisions, but my only concern was for people who end up paying more than they should especially when things are not what they seem.

Yes we live in a free society, where market forces will dictate the worth of things, but sometimes I feel that people need to have a little social conscious as well. Its like when you go an buy a car that has been beautifully polished up and the oil leaks washed down, and then a few days later you realise that the car really wasn't that good in the first place, but you paid top money for it. The guy who sold it is laughing because he/she made a huge profit.

Unfortunately its not an accusation, i have hard proof of shenanigans, and you know what, since your a skeptic, im going to PM you and make you a believer....

I just wrote a 7 paragraph rant on it, including my experiences and outcomes but i deleted it. Don't want to get into it on a public forum, lets leave it at I don't like liars and two faced people, someone who is nice to your face as they are trying to sell you a cubic zirconia as a diamond. It really hits a nerv with me.

One thing ill say however about that 240z at Edward Lee's, Ive seen it in the flesh, and it looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor. It is a clean example, hence the price.

Yeah that PM was pretty eye opening.

I only posted that reply because I hadn't heard anything negative before.

I took a good look at it while I was at the Gosford Car Museum. Has some light rust coming through and from memory some bubbling up paint. I don't think it'll be anything major, but something to keep in mind.

Yeah the passenger side sill has some issues and slightly different colored front guards and bonnet.
They also have a silver 240z which I believe was the Matt Drago car restored in Victoria and on car sales at 35k for months last year. The ask price for that is 55k aswell
