reverendzed Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 hey guys, well after the cruise on Saturday it has made me think that a gearbox rebuild is a priority as changing into second either up or down is getting more difficult all the time. I am on the lookout for a 260 5 speed box that I can work on as a rebuild. thanks. Rev. Quote
C.A.R. Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Might be cheaper & easier to convert to a S13/S14 gearbox, Dave... Quote
reverendzed Posted October 27, 2008 Author Posted October 27, 2008 Lurch can you tell me a little more about this kind of conversion or point me in the direction of some info?....I appreciate your input. Quote
Jospef Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 I'm pretty interested in the s13/s14 gearbox replacement as well. Mine is a bit rusty and the sincro's annoy me. I know you have to change the bellhousing, but a bit more information would be appreciated. Cheers. Quote
Moderators Zedman240® Posted October 27, 2008 Moderators Posted October 27, 2008 Hey Dave, I got Stan Holmes to rebuild (strip and check anyway) my 260 box. He knows all there is to know about them but the only problem is he might take a while. Last time I saw him he had 5 gearbox's to go through and he was in the middle of moving house. If rebuilding the 260 box is your only option, I can give him a call. With my gearbox, he charged me around $420. About $120 was for parts. He has done all my previous zed boxes and they have all been excellent after he does all his "tricks" on them. Quote

I have a 260z box with a stuffed 2nd gear synchro, getting parts for the 260z box is a bit of a pita though. Quote
oldmates260z Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 I put a Bluebird box in mine and it went straight in and is a far nicer box to drive with at a fraction of the price. Ratios a little different but I am not good enough to pick it :-\ Quote
C.A.R. Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 getting parts for the 260z box is a bit of a pita though. Not the case at all Gav - all the rebuild parts are availible from SW Motorsport... Quote
Michael Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 wose comes to worse i have a 280zx box (Its written on the side in chalk ) in my 260 i could grab out for ya or do a pick a part kinda deal - Michael Quote
Glen Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I got to do something with my box, second gear syncro Quote
chris240 Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 yep, agree with oldmates.. the series 2 Bluebird box (82-83) is a magic gearbox... I had one in the 80s & the box did 260,000 kms trouble free, couldnt kill it. this in my opinion is a great conversion for a tired zed gearbox. Quote
