Administrators gav240z Posted March 3, 2021 Administrators Share Posted March 3, 2021 Hi Everyone, Since I converted to Triple Mikuni's I lost my PCV valve on my intake manifold and my block ventilation (crank case) also has nowhere to plumb to. I'm keen on plumbing both points to an oil catch can, if not for any other reason than to stop getting oily residue in my engine bay, but also there does seem to be some benefit to running them in general. (See video) below. I'm just looking for feedback / photos on how you mounted yours and if you bought 1 that worked well? I was going to fabricate 1, but given how cheap some of them are, it seems worth selecting something off the shelf, but it would be nice if it looked in keeping with the engine bay and time period also (bit of an ask I know). I'm thinking of mounting mine below the ignition coil area and utilising existing threads/holes in the engine bay (not wanting to drill new ones). Be nice if it was easy to clean/empty without making a mess too. Oh and I tend to like the clean PVC hose look too! hah. A few ideas to kick things off. https://jdmlegends.com/products/1973-240z https://www.zcarblog.com/tag/rocketbunny https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/55185-lets-see-your-catch-can/
CBR Jeff
Block breather is blocked off so only breather is through the rocker cover. Runs into a catch can under the coil and then back to the middle air cleaner. All mounted using existing holes from memory. Just like you are thinking about Gav. 260DET
My preference every day would be to use a block breather in preference to one up top but for a road car it probably does not matter too much. gav240z

Administrators gav240z Posted March 5, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted March 5, 2021 Hey Scotty, do you know what brand of catch can that is? I need 2 inputs and the little breather on top is probably sufficient for me. Would keep it neat.
JDM-TOY
@gav240z I had my battery tray cut out and I got a custom catch can made for the RB and a replica wiper water bottle. Hidden and simple gav240z

ScottyD
You might need to go to the local wreckers. How good are the power figures on that little engine. gav240z
Administrators gav240z Posted March 18, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted March 18, 2021 I've always liked the little 1200 Coupes, but more so in recent years. Unfortunately prices have climbed a lot so they are less accessible than they were. Like everything I suppose.

My first car was a 1200 Coupe, great little car unfortunately it met its demise whilst trying to occupy the same space as a large power pole gav240z and gilltech 1
Ash260z
Hey Gav, what did you end up doing with the catch can solution in the end? I’m in the same predicament! Cheers Ash

I’m in the same predicament! Cheers Ash I've been very slack with my 240z - due to being busy with a 1 year old. So haven't sorted this yet. But I still want to, sick of having oily residue in the engine bay.

I’ve got it completely open at the rocker cover port but might just put a small breather in temporarily till I find a proper solution. Doesn’t seem to be much info on what others are using and where to best purchase gav240z
Administrators gav240z Posted August 21, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted August 21, 2021 I'm not a fan of the cheap catch can solutions I've found. I may get something fabricated. I'm also weighing up the idea of a custom airbox and plumbing it back into the airbox to be burnt like factory.
Ash260z
Not a bad idea. Keep us updated if you get the solution done!
Administrators gav240z Posted August 21, 2021 Author Administrators Share Posted August 21, 2021 Been looking at the idea for ages (before I installed my Triples). Prince GTB or S20 style airbox would be ideal.
