Hi Folks.

Nils from https://jdmjunkies.ch/ pinged me a link to this document this morning which was the press release at the time of the 240z launch in Australia. The user which uploaded it (https://www.flickr.com/photos/aussiefordadverts/), hasn't made it downloadable for now. Are you on here?

Note the launch date was October 1970 in Australia. Compliance date on HS30 00150 is 11/70 for comparison.

Best I can ascertain is that my car HS30 00051 has a build date around June 1970. But it has no compliance plate. The owner is HS30 00030 told me he has done date stamp checks on various components for his car with the help of @HS30-Hdecoding them and they put that cars build date around April 1970. So it seems some of the very early cars were built in the earlier half of 1970 and sold / imported in the later half.

I suspect that many of the low VIN # cars were dealer demo cars that were not sold to the general public until later (once they had been used up as demo cars).

I would say also that many of the low vin # cars were sent to dealers as demo's and then latter sold on. My chassis number 254 has no compliance plate either, however dates on various parts like the petrol tank, struts, stock wheels put the build date around Nov 1970. The block date is 20th October 1970(0X20).

The ol' boy I employ part time - who worked at Nissan dealerships from '68 till '82 - said that all Australian Nissan's came into the dealership 
with the compliance tag and paperwork in the glove box. And that it was up to the mechanics to perform PD to fit them. 
Not all cars got fitted with their compliance tag for one reason or another, and every mechanic riveted them in a different spot.

In other words, don't get hung up on compliance tags...

It's good to see this and very interesting, so thanks for posting.

However, I'm constantly on guard against 'the usual suspects' who would seek to paint the S30-series Z as - and I quote - "An American car, made in Japan" and all that other USA-centric cobblers, and don't want to let them get away with using stuff like this press release as 'proof' of their own mistaken beliefs.

The RHD export market was taken into account in the planning, styling, engineering, manufacturing and eventual marketing of the S30-series Z from the very beginning, and - obviously - Aus and NZ were an important part of that. An 'HS30' prefixed RHD Export specification factory pre-production car ('HS30-00001') was the FOURTH Primary Production Prototype of the S30-series range, and was made in July 1969. It was not any kind of 'afterthought' or compromise. It was a key part of the story.

So don't let the buggers tell you otherwise.

Here's a perfect example of what I'm talking about. The owner/writer/publisher of 'zhome.com' knows full (damn) well that what he presents as 'fact' is in actually a totally bowdlerised version of events intended to paint the USA market cars as Genesis, but he does it anyway. And the fanbois positivelyLAP it up. Here:
