That's a great 2+2, the kind of car I'd look at buying if I was in the market for 1.

It certainly looks honest enough.

But does seem to have signs of rust in plenty of areas. Would be well worth a look if you were local to it.

Even has a few weeks rego to help you get it home.

From a total novice (and I may post a plea for help later!) ...

Thoughts on this (let's say you could get it for 15 then spend 10 on a bit of fixing) ...

Or, this ...

I'm after a 3-day-a-week driver, OK for rego in NSW. And, long term, looking to spend a few k on it each year to get it up to 'super nice' spec.

Mod: Happy to post this elsewhere is you're not happy with it here. Just let me know. Cheers.

The orange 2+2 is already registered in NSW and has been driving regularly (I've seen it on my bike going across Anzac bridge). The value in these cars lies with the body work. It was repainted not that long ago, ask to see documented evidence of rust repairs and how it looked before, during and after it was stripped back for paint.

The first link appears to have no hit reserve yet, not sure what owner wants to get, but it looks 'honest'. However you won't know what 10K will get until you know what the condition of the body is in.

I'd say either car is better than 80% of 2+2s that hit the market.

Hi,

Welcome.

As Gav says both those cars are better than most of the cars that have sold recently. However the Blue car is showing signs of rust in most of the common places. You would want to get someone knowledgeable to have a good look at it.

I will be very interested in what it ends ip selling for.

Good luck in your search for a car.

Cheers

Brilliant, thanks Gav & PB.

Next potentially stupid question(s) ...

1. Any suggestions on who to call for a pre-purchase inspection (thinking the orange one); and

2. Looks like you're both in Sydney. Do you have an ongoing mechanic that you use?

Cheers,

Andrew

Hi Andrew

In response to your questions

1. I can't think of anyone I woud recomend for checking a Z

2. I do my own mechanical work, these are not complicated cars. There are some good mechanical shops around, whereabouts in Sydney are you.

Cheers

1. You could take either S30z to a specialist who works on these cars or has had experience with rust repairs on them. I'm not sure of anyone in Sydney with bodywork experience on S30z's that I can personally recommend.

For the car in South Australia you could ask member "Ledge" who has a workshop if the car can be brought to him for inspection.

https://www.facebook.com/CustomAndClassicCars/

Since he has repaired quite a few S30z's and 2+2s which rust differently believe it or not? (For example 2+2's have different roof pressings which tend to trap water more than 2 seaters and rust them differently around the top quarters.

2. Stewart Wilkins in Sydney or James Flett in DeeWhy.

"Lovely example of a 260z it will kill me to sell but has to be done hoping for a quick sale so a bit of wiggle room in the price.
Both carbies have been rebuilt and tuned new exhaust nice not not to loud. All chrome still on car nothing missing. Has got a factory air con a rare option just no belt on it. The windshield has been replaced nice and water tight. No major rust only small patch near exhaust at the back
Comes with factory wheels and after market wheels or can drop the price and give you the stock wheels
happy to come to you."

Yes indeed, my sister lives in St Peters and I see a few cars and folk fitting that description in the area.

That is at the upper end of what I thought it would go for.

Hopefully there are no nasty surprises for the new owner.

He lists the vin as being a HS30 however I thought the early zeds were just S30. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

All early Datsun 240z's delivered to Australia were all HS30's. The underlying chassis is S30 and the H prefix represents an L24 engine.
