locklock
Hi, can anyone help me to identify this gearbox please? Its taken out from my 240z. By looking at the box, would it be able to tell what is the ratio? The previous owner mention he did something to the gearbox during early 90s, but couldn't remember if it was changed or overhauled. Thanks!

locklock
Does a z432 also uses the same gearbox? gav240z
dat2kman
First gear will be 2.9 Same gearset as fitted to Datsun Roadsters with U20 motor. There were two Option ratio sets, a 2.5 first, and a 1.8 first, aka, " Mid Close" and " Ultra Close" Really couldn't see the 432 being fitted with the Option boxes, standard. The bellhousings are interchangeable between the boxes, to suit L, U and S motors locklock
HS30-H
Does a z432 also uses the same gearbox? Most 432s and 432Rs used the FS5C71-A transmission, but with a specific bellhousing to suit the S20 engine. A few 'Kouki'/late model 432s used FS5C71-B transmissions, again with a bellhousing/front case to suit the S20. The FS5C71-A was stock equipment on HS30-001503. gav240z and locklock
Administrators gav240z Posted July 5, 2017 Administrators Share Posted July 5, 2017 Yep HS30 10552 - my 72 240z was 1 of the last HS30's to receive the 71A box. It was literally a December 1971 built car.
locklock
Is there anywhere selling the internal gears? I belive the teeths of the gearbox is quite worn out. I seen mostly for 71b and 71c only.
dat2kman
I could have helped you out, but recently sold three 71A boxes in fully dissasembled state. Google search "Lou Mondello" he is a Datsun Roadster specialist, he will have stock of good used internal parts for 71A He is in the Moorabbin Victoria Australia area ( see you are in KL, he should ship overseas!) gav240z

JDM-TOY
Hey guys this has probably been asked before, would a 280zx 5spd fit straight into a 73 240z (previously auto). Will the shifter sit in the 240 centre console?
CBR Jeff
Mr Toy, you might get flamed again........ Look in the technical section of the forums in the gearbox tab (happens to be the same place as this thread) and look at the "pinned" topics you will find what you seek. You could also try the search function and search "what gearboxes fit". both will help you. Jeff
JDM-TOY
Thanks Jeff will do. I did look but obviously not hard enough. When did I get flamed before? Cheers Youhan Edited July 23, 2017 by JDM-TOY
dat2kman
JDM Toy, yes, the later trans will fit, the shifter will poke up through the hole in the tunnel towards the front of the hole. You can gently bend the stick back a bit f reqd. The rubber boot and donsole soft covering/boot, will cover up this "forward" position.
