Shaun05 Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 As the title states, I'm after an e88 head. If you have an engine with the e88 head and don't want to separate them, I may consider taking the whole lot. I would also be interested in an F54 or N42 block. Cheers, Shaun Quote
Mike260LW Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 Which E88 head? The early carby head or later skyline EFI one? Quote
Shaun05 Posted June 27, 2016 Author Posted June 27, 2016 Which E88 head? The early carby head or later skyline EFI one? I should have mentioned this up front. The EFI head would be great. I'd be willing to take either early carby of late EFI. Quote
Mike260LW Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 The E88 and E88 EFI heads are quite different beasts. Small ports and valves with large chamber versus big ports and valves with small chamber. The E88 is comparatively plentiful, the EFI, not so. Quote

600Z Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 (edited) Hi Mike, Just a quick one as I have both the early E88 from a L26 open chamber and a E88 EFI closed chamber and the ports from what I can tell are the same apart from the injector cut outs? Both have 36mm intake ports, I do know that there are a few different E88 heads though. Justin Edited June 28, 2016 by 600Z gav240z 1 Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted June 29, 2016 Administrators Posted June 29, 2016 I'm aware of 3 versions. 1. Early 240z E88 head (similar chamber to E31) 2. Mid 260z E88 open chamber head. 3. Late MR30 Skyline E88 EFI head with same chamber shape as P90 / 05L heads and cut out's for F.I. Quote
600Z Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Hi Gav, Yes there the three I'm aware of as well though I thought the port sizes are the same across them but could be wrong. Justin Quote

I thought the valves and ports were different on the 260z E88 and MR 30 E88 but just went and measured both and they the same. It's all in the combustion chamber c.c. If you were chasing compression and chamber shape it would probably be simpler to weld up and reprofile a P 90 head if your not restricted by rules. Quote
600Z Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 Hi Mike, All good I was thinking bugger should I be looking for another one with bigger ports lol Yes from what I read the P90 heads flow pretty well from factory. Quote
road rider Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 (edited) The Skyline EFI heads had both open chamber and closed chamber heads. You had to be lucky to come across one! The EFI heads will have the hardened valve seats which are compatible with unleaded fuels. I'm not sure if the 260Z, E88 heads had valve seats that are suitable for unleaded fuel.
