Rtiny Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Hello. Im looking to purchase some watanabes. 15x8.5 -6 I have searched through the forum and found similar sizes. varying from 7' to 8' wide. but nothing with really with negative offset. it will be going on a standard 240z. Is there anyone running the same size? or have pictures? really want to see a Z with that setup as the rims are from another state. Thanks. Quote
Hokin Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Hi Rtiny, I think you will find that the 8.5's will stick out from the wheel arch and may require rolling of the lip or possibly fender flares. Any particular reason for the 15" diameter? Check the link below, if they are still for sale, these are 16x8 at 0 offset. Were on a car without flares and any fouling, nearly got these myself but went a different direction. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/13649-watanabe-16x8-0-as-new-with-tyres-melbourne/page-2 Cheers,Hokin Quote

Rtiny Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 Hi Hokin. I think that 15 just look right for my style. 16 are nice but thier just a touch too big and doesnt retain the period correct size wheels. plus, easier to get lower And also, if it doesnt workout, i can put the wheels on the ae86 ^.^ been haunting the web again. and decided that 15x8 or x9 0 offset is the way to go. lol Huw 1 Quote
dat2kman Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 8" at 0 will be fine, depending on tyre section width, rear guards may need a slight trim on the inside lip. 9" at 0 will gve you more clearance issue, again, depends on tyre section width. Quote
Rtiny Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 (edited) http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/14043-street-spec-1973-240z/ is running 15 x 8.5 -6 on rear. looks good. and 15 x 8 0 front.! Perfect in my opinion. That seems to be my final anwser thoughts? *edit. tyre specs here. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/12374-new-240z-member-sydney/page-2 would 195/55/15 be a bit too skinny? notice most people run 225 Edited October 27, 2015 by Rtiny Quote
cracker Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/14043-street-spec-1973-240z/ is running 15 x 8.5 -6 on rear. looks good. and 15 x 8 0 front.! Perfect in my opinion. That seems to be my final anwser thoughts? These are on a car with coilovers, which aid with clearance. Somebody else may be able to contribute if these wheels are likely to clear a stock rear setup (front should be fine). I have 16 x 8 (-4) running 205 tyres and get some scrubbing under hard cornering, and my rough understanding/calculation of an 8.5 inch rim at -6 would be 13mm "wider" (towards the outer edge of the car) than my setup (it would also be approx 11mm closer to the body I think). With the thin 205 tyres the difference would not be 13mm at the guard (possibly more like 8-10mm as a silly guess) but probably wouldn't be the most practical choice. Just depends what you care about! Quote
Rtiny Posted October 27, 2015 Author Posted October 27, 2015 Thanks Cracker. I will eventually get MCA coilovers (as per reading around) and helps that im already in brisbane. I am use to a little scrubbing. my ae86 run 14x8 -12. had to do some sanding work to make it scrubb less and some camber. im after a little bit of a poser look, with the use of it in the mountians as well. shaun240 Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I have fitted 15x8.0 + 0 offset to front, and 15x8.5 - 6 offset to rears and they seem to fit fine. No scrubbing yet however haven't given them a good workout since fitted. This however is with coilovers so cannot comment on how they would sit with stock suspension. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/14043-street-spec-1973-240z/ gav240z 1 Quote
Rtiny Posted October 28, 2015 Author Posted October 28, 2015 Thanks shaun240. already stalked your build let us know how it goes with a hard drive. did you have to roll the lips? Quote
74zzz Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 (edited) looking at the side profile of that white car hes gonna have issues cornering under load? stick out a fair way by the looks even with a stretched tire. he is running coil overs which may help clearance on the inside because he wont have the same pearches. if its going to be purely a street car you should be ok but if you want to drop substantially your gonna have to run some pretty stiff springs or some decent camber Edited October 28, 2015 by 74zzz Quote
74zzz Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 (edited) on second glance car may still be jacked on that side shot so you might be ok....but if you read every one of the extensive posts on this issue 15x8 0s are the widest without mods but with fat rubber you still need to do some rolling Edited October 28, 2015 by 74zzz Quote
shaun240 Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 We haven't rolled the guards as yet but assume this will be required to gain that extra clearance. The car will be purely street driven so can't see us having too many issues with cornering. The coilovers are running koni yellow race shocks on 250 pound springs but will keep you posted once the car is registered / driveable. Quote
adam Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 It'll all depend on your tyre selection. I've been running 15x8 0 and 15x8.5 -6 with 185/55 from memory and I can tell you now you'll need a roll out back. Hasn't given me any grief with hard hills driving. You should be able to get away with a 195/xx but any wider and you may need to begin flaring. gav240z 1 Quote
