Thanks John for organising the long awaited drive day, it was great to see some zeds out!! Mike, I will get the footage together and upload a small video when I get a chance this week (apologies in advance for the amateur footage - it was the first time I have used the go pro). Here are a few more photos from the initial meet at Loftus.

Hi mate, Looks the goods, put me down for one. Thanks, Shaun -
If it's just wet I am happy to come along however if its pouring as forecasted I will not be attending, just a little too risky especially around the RNP roads.. Happy for PB to make the call on Sat arvo. I am also free in 2 weeks time. Shaun.

Hey guys, Just hoping to get some advice on our options for the R180 diffs. I have done a quick search without any luck so hoping you can assist. We have recently completed the auto to manual conversion on the 240z which is now running a 260z 5 speed box however still running the original auto R180 3.55:1 diff gearing which we want to replace to help with acceleration. I have read the 4.11 would be best suited for our car, is this correct? The motor is fairly stock and is only street driven therefore I don't think there is any need to replace with an R200 at this stage, so should we look to source replacement gears such as 4.11, and are these readily available,or are we better off just replacing the entire diff? Thanks, Shaun

+ 1 for a run through the Royal National Park down to Scarborough Hotel. Would be ideal to do this early morning as the traffic can get pretty heavy on weekends.

Thanks for organising Pete, was great to meet a bunch of the Sydney members and bring the car out for it's first Z event. Looking forward to the next one!

Looks like the cooler conditions are hanging around for tomorrow which should be good for the Z. This will be our first Sydney meet so hoping to see a good turnout!

Car is looking great Andy, loving the progress.. Will be good to see another Z back on the roads of Sydney!

Thanks guys. Tyres are 195/55/r15's all round. Front fit really well on the 8.0's and backs are slightly stretched on the 8.5's but that was the look we were going for.

Further to Mark's post above I have included some additional photos of our progress over the last month or so.. The auto tunnel has been slightly modified to fit the manual box. We also had to heat and bend the gear shifter as it was a little to close to the heater panel / dash. We have fitted up new clutch / brake master cylinders and mechanical fuel pump. The Fujitsubo headers and exhaust systems installed and sounds / fit great. Mark has also taken the time to tidy up the old parkers. Surprised what a little cleaning can achieve - they have come up pretty good! (Right one is yet to be cleaned..) We are still a little undecided on what to do with the bumpers. The front has some small dings in it however the chrome is overall not too bad. The rear however has completely lost the chrome in areas and has some nasty rust showing around the overriders and mounts. Pictures below. Has anyone restored their original bumpers, in particular in Sydney, and if so do you think these are salvageable? Or are we just better off buying some reproductions? I have seen some for sale on All Muscle Car Parts in Moorebank and Phils Rotarys in QLD just not sure on the quality / fitment / thickness etc as I have heard that some may be quite flimsy. If there are other suppliers that you have used or know that make good quality 240z bumpers feel free to let us know! Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Shaun

Over the past few weeks we have started overhauling the original L24 motor and completing the manual conversion. We started by stripping down the block, removing the head / carbs / manifolds / radiator etc to give us plenty of working space and then used a hoist to remove the motor and box. We had some difficulties getting the head bolts out (one snapped and 3 others were nearly impossible to remove) but eventually came with some force and a lot of working back and forth. Once the block was out of the car we put it up on a stand and stripped the sump, timing casings and welsh plugs to inspect the block / crank / reservoirs etc. It was quite surprising to see the amount of fine rust that had built up within the reservoir which would have caused some major flow issues around the piston walls. We removed as much as we could with a flexi magnet but thought it would be best to send it off to get hot tanked and acid washed so the crank, pistons, oil pump and remaining items were removed from the block. Once we got the block back it was a relief to be able to see clearly through the block via the welsh plugs. We recommend anyone that is doing a rebuild pay the money to get your block hot tanked and acid washed, its worth every cent! We also took the chance to hone down the cylinders, refit the crank and prep the block for some paint. We removed the surface rust that had started building up over the last week and an anti-rust coating was applied before painting the block. We visited Stewart Wilkins Motorsport who has helped us source a heap of parts for the rebuild including new inlet / exhaust valves, main and conrod bearings, piston rings, head bolts, timing chain and tensioners / guides, gaskets etc. Very quick and easy to deal with. We were also lucky enough to source a rebuilt 260z 5 speed gearbox and misc manual conversion parts from Les Collins Racing, thanks to Locky and Les for sourcing the parts for this! Next step to complete the motor rebuild and fit up the gearbox which we are hoping to complete within the next month or so..

We haven't rolled the guards as yet but assume this will be required to gain that extra clearance. The car will be purely street driven so can't see us having too many issues with cornering. The coilovers are running koni yellow race shocks on 250 pound springs but will keep you posted once the car is registered / driveable.

I have fitted 15x8.0 + 0 offset to front, and 15x8.5 - 6 offset to rears and they seem to fit fine. No scrubbing yet however haven't given them a good workout since fitted. This however is with coilovers so cannot comment on how they would sit with stock suspension. http://www.viczcar.com/forum/topic/14043-street-spec-1973-240z/
