Bit of an observation  ::)Ive regulaly checked zeds for sale on carpoint/carsales for the past 8-9 years, and Ive noticed especially the past 2 years the decline of 240s offered for sale on these 2 major sites. 5 years ago there would be 8-12, in the past year I reckon on average 3-4 and Finally for the past week there has only been but 1 for sale. In a country of 19-20 million on the 2 biggest car selling sites there is but 1 240 for sale  ???

Whats going on ? Im assuming either there are 10 buyers per 240, or they all rusted into oblivion...

yeah, i've noticed that also

its true that lots of 240s simply got cut up a few years ago, so that has diminished the supply

i find that carsales and carpoint have become mainstream, couple of niche ones like unique cars have had more

maybe its on the back of vintage jap car popularity in general - checkout the prices on the humble 1200 utes and the 1600s

The S30z's that have been for sale lately have all been projects / shells / rust work. Generally Carsales appeals to finished cars I'd say. That probably has a big part to do with it.

Also Gumtree is free....

It's also a case of there never there when your looking.

Soon as you buy one after waiting months for the right car there will be 10 cars that were exactly what you were looking for the next week.

Yes they do seem to come in waves, there are very few Datsun's for sale at the moment. It was only 2-3 months ago I noted that there were as many 240 on carsales as there were 260's....I thought that was very strange but did not last long.

Don't you hate that? I console myself with the fact that they are probably not as good as they look in the ad.

I've also noticed a decline in Datsun's for sale on Carsales in general, not just S30z's, but 1200's, 120Y's, 200B's, Fairlady Roadsters, 510's etc..I think they are just getting harder to find now.

The rarest of the rare in my opinion is the 240K coupe. Seems a lot of pent up demand and not many cars around.

I would have to agree and particularly in relation to Datsuns in general.

I remember 1-1.5 year ago when I was looking to purchase a 240z and there would always be between 55-65 Datsuns listed on carsales.

Currently there are only 35 listed for sale.

never understood the appeal for the 240k and the same shaped skyline......horrible lines, a bum that is totally out of proportion to its nose and just plain ugly:) saw a gtr mock up with stock running gear going for nearly 20 grand........no thanks :)

Not everyone has good taste :P, no in fairness you're entitled to your opinion. I think they are cool but I understand it may not appeal to everyone.

Just like the HQ Monaro or LJ Torana, I've just never seen the appeal in terms of aesthetics but obviously some do. I do still appreciate seeing 1 on the road and I do kinda like the LJ if I'm honest especially the XU-1 GTR, I just find it's shape a bit odd.

I do wish they made the Holden Torana GTR-X though, I think they were onto something with that.

PS: 20K for a 240K Coupe GTR clone is good buying... If you knew what they were selling for in Japan you'd have a heart attack.

/End off topic diatribe

I appreciate cars that were ahead of their time or out performed far more expensive or were just beautiful to look at but the 240K isnt any of that :) then again i have no clue on their history, ability or design :) they look like the bastard son of a p76 and a p1800 es :)

No I LOVE the p1800 stunning little car, i nearly bought a white one instead of the Z.......... but the ES is just horrid :)

You keep picking on cars I like haha. I don't mind the wagon, but I do prefer the original shape of the coupe. My dad had 2 before I was born, there is a chance I was conceived in the back of 1, but it's not a topic I'd like to ask my mum about :P.

I quite liked the introspective view this guy has about classic cars, can definitely relate to what he was saying about that hand made element of stuff compared with say an iPhone which appears to have been made by aliens ;).

/Sorry gone off topic again.

Love these short car profiles this production crew do......you've probably already seen it but they have done one on a 240z with a rebello motor in it among some other cool old cars! the sound coming from the 240 is amazing

Thank God  !!  I thought I was the only one with the "found my perfect car AFTER just buying my compromise perfect car" curse !

I waited 12 months for the 260z I bought and as much as I love my Datsun, soon after buying her I saw the perfect, untouched, factory stock example pop up on gumtree for $2.5k less than I spent

I think we are all guilty of wanting to pat ourselves on the back with our latest aquisition comparing to others on the market but sometimes its too much like tempting fate as sooner or later THE perfect car will turn up ..

I bought a family wagon last week, and I just lived on carpoint for the past 3 weeks waiting for "the" better car to appear, waiting and waiting.... The perfect car was there all along staring us in the face, but I kept procrastinating waiting for the something with less km's and less $..

A month ago I sold our fully optioned 2009 Rav V6 on carpoint within 24hrs, I was happy with the price we got, and I left the ad on to see how many calls I would get just outa curriosity, after 2 weeks the car had 600+ views, 40 saves, but not a single call or enquiry , I was just thankfull the right buyer came at the right time, and some luck I guess

Theres a lesson to be learnt here somewhere, but Im not quite sure what it is !

The lesson is don't get greedy if a buyer comes along with cash and is willing to buy. Sell. If you held out for a 'better price' you may not have got a sale.

Also stale listings can put people off, I've seen lots of cars sit around and not sell for ages and you kind of become blind to them as don't even consider them.

There is an old quote in the car sales game

"Your first offer is often your best offer"
