phillay Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 hi guys I was about to have a go at rebuilding the L28 that I got cheap, but time and space is lacking so I want to look for someone to do it properly. I am not after a super highly strung race build or something that's going to move the earth. I've read the few threads on there on budget builds etc. I just want something that for the streets, I drive my car once a fortnight. I have 2 heads and a block that looks to be in good nick. they are both N42 i think. I have a set of 40mm mikunis to go on them as well. My budget is $5k to get it done, I could drop it into the car myself. I am ready to just drop the motor off at some place right now if I needed to. advice please. thanks in advance p.s is Z shop in Glen Iris good? read some reviews on google, their website is outdated. I am planning to give them a visit next saturday first thing. Phil Quote
mossy Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Les Collins, Daniel at DJM automotive or PMC Quote
C.A.R. Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 I personally wouldn't recommend the Z Shop. Les is very busy atm & you'll have to have a budget of $6k+ to get him to do it for you. Peter Mac is probably your best bet for your budget. Quote
Z Shop Performance Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 What is your problem Lurch? I keep getting phone calls and emails from bemused customers telling me you are constantly bagging Z Shop Performance and I don't think we have ever even met. We service tune and rebuild far more Nissan performance vehicles - 240Z's etc than anybody else in Australia. Our customers cars have won more motorsport events (historic, state racing & Targa Tasmania) than any other Z service provider in Australia since 1986. We currently have 8 x 240Z's being worked on by our 3 mechanics and are running 2 shifts x 6 days per week with extra casual staff to try and keep up with our work load. Our web service provider has been eager to update our site for ages but we are plain and simply too busy providing quality service in our workshop to give him the input he needs. If you have grievances with this company why don't you call me discuss them instead of being a loud mouth on a public forum bud. Quote
Retro Z Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 I've dealt with Lindsay at Z shop several times before for parts and advice and on all occasions he offered a very good service and is very accomodating so i can't complain. Quote
C.A.R. Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 I'll concede that my post above was a bit harsh Lindsey, so I've edited it. However, my personal opinion of yourself and your business is my own & that will not change. Indeed when relatively recent occurrences such as this happen: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?topic=11910.15 one must be cautious about dealing with a business/individual with a reputation - more-so in a small community such a Z cars... /end. Z Shop Performance Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Good morning Bob and Lindsay, Just a quick line to let you know ROSENBERG was finally located and arrested on the 18th of July by Lilydale Police. The file returned to me over the weekend with the interview discs. I have not listened to the interview yet as I have been tied up with demosntration duties in and around the city. I will review the interview at the earliest time but. The next step will be to produce a brief of evidence to my Sergeant for review and hopefully producing a summons for ROSENBERG to attend court re theft of carbies. If you have any questions for me please do so via email as my hours are very erratic and at odd times. peter mc Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Sorry I do not build engines in that price range best get the boys at the z shop to do it Quote
dat2kman Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Grab yourself a copy of the book" how to rebuild your datsun ohc L engine" Read it, read it again. Do it yourself on a bench in the shed, a Supercrap engine stand is a usefull thing. You dont need to many fancy workshop tools. What you will need is a machine shop to do a little finishing work on the block and the head. Not hard. Have a go at pulling an engine apart first, lay the bits out on the bench. Hint, dont forget the two 10mm small bolts at front of head to front timing cover. For timing chain wedge, fadhion up a bit of timber. Quote

Zedstar Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Highly recommended. Z Shop Performance for the right outcome at a reasonable price. I have 4 Zeds including a 240 in immaculate condition all looked after by Lindsay and his team for nearly 15 years. Find the misinformation spread round from time to time about this business disturbing , know many of Lindsay's satisfied and loyal clients - the longevity of Z Shop in an era where many competitors and ancillary auto services have closed their doors speaks for itself. Administrators gav240z Posted September 5, 2014 Administrators Posted September 5, 2014 By the way Len Brennan recently contacted me to say he was looking to do Engine Rebuilds for L-series engines again. Although he hasn't replied to my last PM he said he wanted me to put the word out that he's doing engines again. His profile on here is: http://www.viczcar.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1396 Do you think you could spread the word for me please Gavin, I am a bit lost on your web site. I will have to resurrect my own web site again. Warmest Regards Len Brennan Merlin Engineering Race and Performance Engineering Quote
benny Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 I spoke to Len about this the other week and let him know that there was extreme interest in budget conscious rebuilds. He was excited to hear this so please give him a call if your looking for a rebuild for a decent price. Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted January 30, 2015 Administrators Posted January 30, 2015 http://engineaction.com/ Is that an advertisement or endorsement? Have you had them build a motor for you? Your profile says you are in Sydney and yet these guys are in Melbourne? Not that there is anything wrong with that, but as you are new here you've posted 4 times 2 of which is to plug this website.
