Hey Rudi.  Did it all through Link Powdercoating at Kings Park.  Definitely Powdercoated rather than epoxy'd.

Electrical I've left alone.  Once I get a bit closer (not too long now!) to getting it ready for roadworthy I'll take one last go to see if I can work anything out before I take it to a sparky to get it done properly.

Mate - wedding, reno, Car restoration - you've certainly had your hands full !!

Well not much Z progress to report - have done some pottering around when time allows and have finally got the heater box back together (had more trouble putting it together than I did taking apart - and taking it apart really sucked!) and have put it back in the car, as well as fiddling with thinks like pinchweld door seals - found one that is a good size for a Z at Clarke Rubber (after first buying one that was WAY too big).

The Z (and family) will soon have a new home though as we finally got into a position where we were able to buy back into the market in Sydney after selling our house down in Melbourne and then saving and waiting.  After the move in 5 weeks the poor girl is gonna have to be under a carport in a weather cover until we can build a shed though, as the garage will be full of mowers, pushbikes etc until shed gets built.  Exciting times ahead!

Well with the house move, reassessing Finance and my lack of skills etc the decision has been made to get the car panels off full body restored and all the other odd jobs done professionally. Thankfully I have a supportive wife (who is also sick of the car sitting dormant in the garage). Dropped off at the body shop this morning. The enjoyment of the car, along with the prices fully restored z's are fetching, will make the wallet pain worth it. Be interesting to see completely what lurks beneath the dodgy respray.

Hi Mate

A rather big decision but I can understand your reasoning, do you have an indication how long the body work will take yet.

Keep the udates & photos coming.

Cheers

Paint is coming off and the first batch of photos has been emailed to me.  Must say I'm disappointed at how it looks underneath, given it didn't look too bad and was sold to me as having good body, but feeling much more that I made the right decision.  Glad I didn't just finish off the minor stuff only for this to start coming through...........

Ummm that is a good body on an S30z lol...Sugar scoops are dirt cheap to replace compared with other panels. So I wouldn't be too worried about that. It also explains why the paint wasn't good on those areas.

Is that last photo the lower valance at the front?

People get awfully creative with bog. It always makes me wonder, using a hammer and dolly isn't that hard after all..

Front end looks very straight, I'd be happy about that!

There's some more photos I'll put up later with some more rust but yeah I've seen worse. Was just disappointed from what the car was sold to me as. Not sure what bit the bog moulding job was on. Hopefully seeing in person on Friday if I can swing it with work.

All part of the learning experience mate, it's just how it is with these cars or any classic car really. That's why a "properly" restored 240z is worth good money to the right person. Because from experience we know the difference between a quick fix and a proper restoration.

I still think you got a good car for the money you paid for it and it could be a whole lot worse. Expect to find a few more spots here and there, but honestly the body doesn't look that bad so far.

LOL @ the lower fender section. It's actually not that bad compared to what i've seen, why weld when you can super glue eh? :)

You can order that section from Rare Spares or just fabricate it, 1 of the easier sections to fix.

The roof will be the trickiest section to repair.

As Pete said, a big decision but good on you for making it.

Will you be changing the colour Andy? You mentioned other jobs done professionally - what are they?

Exciting stuff mate! Keep those photos and updates coming and don't forget -

Hi Mate

I understand how disheartening these things can be. But like everyone else has said most Z's are far worse.

Just keep focused on the end goal - having a truly rust free Z to enjoy whenever you want & hopefully that will be in the first few months of 2016.

Cheers

I thought about it quite a few times, but decided to stick with the factory colour in the spirit of reasonable originality.  Other jobs will be the fiddly crud I've struggled with: body shop has a trimmer and a sparky that they work with. I'll get them to do the seats and carpet that have been sitting in my garage for over a year and will probably order new vinyl, along with sorting out why my lights won't work.  Will get them to fit up the Fujitsubo exhaust and headers as well.  Other job that still needs doing for blue slip is replacing some of the hard lines on the brakes so that will be done as well.

I spoke to the guys about this today and he said "you're a bit late we've already fabricated it" ha ha ha

How is the project going Andy?

After reading your build thread I think that you purchased this car from the same Gentelman that I got my girl from.

The wood fired pizza chiropractor from Dolls Point?

Haven't spoken to the guy for a week or so but presume all is good. Yeah sounds like the same people - I'm sure the guy said his wife runs a pizza shop. I think they try to make money on the side flipping cars. There was a bit of a discussion on here a while back about it

A quick visit to the panel beaters today to check progress, drop off a part (thanks again Matt) and pick some other parts up.

Was excited to see progress being made.  Doors repaired  - I didn't get photos but one door had been gouged previously and seriously had been patched up with about 30mm of bog!!  The guys were looking at the cost of replacement door skins but ended up doing the work to repair it rather an replace.  They did a good job and were happy to sow m both sides of the skin.

Repairs on front now finished and sealed:

Shocking rust holes in quarter window frame had new metal welded in and primed:

roof repaired and back half of car being worked on:

Some interesting ventilation in the hatch:

Interior work to start soon.

My daughter recently:  Do you miss Fern Daddy ?

Me, choking back tears (not really : ): A little darling......

Looking good and everything you find is just part of the Z journey. Enjoy.

Sometimes that journey is just a little longer than expected.

Car is getting high fill early next week and then knock back and paint booth the following week.  Brake line issues getting fixed while the high fill sets.

Panel Beater has sent me some more of the photos I hadn't seen:

This one I think is the worst bit of the car I've seen :

Under side of the same spot (I think):

That's looking better:

New front lip trial fitted.  I know it is "boy racer" style, but it is my one concession to teenage me who fell in love with 240Zs and wanted one with the full flares etc:

Superior ventilation around the tail lights:
