Hey,

on page 8 i noticed the black primer.. what is the reason for this as im about to repaint my 260z and need a few tips..

Thanks

Ben

Hi Ben, its actually the undercoat. It will be black so that the blue will stand out and have a darkish glow. Otherwise it would be very bright if we used another undercoat. Generally the rule of the thumb is depending on color. If your going for a red or yellow then you'll do a white undercoat to get a rich bright color. For darker colors its black. As mine is a metallic blue its kinda goes both ways. You can have it with a white undercoat but the color will really stand out and will end up like hyper-blue like the sky.

Depending on your panel beater he will use his own technique.

Yer thats Lui's car (LC260Z)

Sulio

OooOOo he brought it in at a extremely good time. Theres literally no cars in there at the moment. As you can see they're into it already. Just a note Lui, I suggest you check up on it every 2-3 days so you can tell them how you want the job done to a detailed level. Otherwise they'll just do their own thing and might not end up with the result you want.

:o which pics aren't working? I recently moved all the pics to photobucket.

I went through each thread to update them so they should be all there.

But just in case just tell me which page and which post number from top to bottom and i'll get the pics back up.

the only pics on this page, page 9, is my 2nd post from the top. The pics of my Zed with all the panels major panels on it, doing a final coat and straight. As well as Lui's car. It doesn't load up?

Hi guys,

i know many (none) of you guys are asking what happened to this project. So today i had a chance to go to the panel beaters and check it up first hand.

They have just finished the final prep coat, using a product called U-POL. I've done a bit of research on this product and its actually an easy product to use and easy to shape and mold. Being non-porous, what i was after, it also prevents the water & air from getting to the metal (rust).

I've also purchased a set of triple webbers and have been buffing it out. But it looks like i will need to get them rebuilt.

OK, so to the ever waiting pictures. What has been done currently is the doors, flairs, front spoiler, rear spoiler have now been painted with its first coat. Hopefully the rest will follow soon. Oh how its taking forever.

He fu

all looking good

have they given a delivery time on the painted car???

Ash

Fufu, when do you think it might be on the road?

Sulio

unfortunately no delivery date has been set. It's one of those restoration projects that gets second priority over the everyday easy accident jobs. I know they've been working on a few projects as well other then mine. a RX7FC, Soarer, relic mercedes. They were very happy when i came in the other day so i hope its not too long. But then again i did say that for the last 6 months now.

My full time contract ends within the next 3 weeks so i hope its done before then so i can go crazy with it.

My plan is to re-assemble and roadworthy within 4-6 weeks. I know its a short time line, but i miss driving her  :'(

I would also need to look into the engine when it gets back as it no longer starts. But i hope thats just a fuel and battery issue. *fingers crossed*

I would also need to re-assemble the locks and doors at the panel beaters as my garage has turned into my grandpas labyrinth and i dare not disturb it. As well as reconfigure those rear disc brakes. I've had the spacer installed now but i need to rewind the pads as its pushed out and wouldn't let the car move. I basically removed the pads so that the PB's could move it around. I've done so much brake work that i believe this would not take too long. The learning curve with this fair.... lady. *pun intended*

There is a few imperfections but nothing a bit of cut and polish won't fix.

There is a 50cent piece size hole in the firewall that i want them to repair before they return the car back to me.

You could almost take a swim in that blue!! Nice finish, the trick is now is to keep it looking like that! To me, you are over the biggest hurdle..

Some more photos. Very dusty. Crazy, how much dust accumulates at the Panel beaters.

bingo!

LOL yea they painted the muffler and fuel tank.

The fuel tank will be repainted black, easy fix.

looking good but i thought ill point this out which i think is a bigger problem than bit of oversparay on the fuel tank and the muffler.(since i know thing or two about repairing and painting cars)

hope i dont step on anyones toes.  :-[

is this camera angle ( i doubt it) or is this what it actualy looks like?

if it does...........

If i were you ill have a good look at this area and get them to redo it again. the 1cm or so between the lights and rear bar is visible. it be a shame to have everything else nice and this area bit shonked up.

also on the pic looks like there is a large dent near the bar mounting holes. and a dent near the center.  also the spot welds should have been cleaned up bit better.

thats just me giving you heads up to get the stuff fixed or otherwise will cost lot more.

through the pics everything else looks realy good. but i know cameras hide a fair bit. have a look at  every panel through as many angles as you can be bothered to look at. also at different lights.

if you paying big money for that job you want it to be reasonably good. if not than i guess u can expect few imperfections.
