This came through the AusZcar contact forum:

I am a producer at the Discovery Channel and we are filming late August for a

series about Australian car culture. I need to speak to someone about the Z

cars and wanted to film with some owners and their cars around Aug 20th or so

at an interesting location in Sydney or around about. I would be grateful foe

someone to get in touch on Duncan@x2p.co.uk or call 0044 (0) 1926 624267. The

Z's are great and I would love to feature them in the programme! All best.

Oh no, it's that annoying git from Wheeler Dealer.

Awww, the poor fella everyone rags on him. I actually feel a bit sorry for him because he really does mean well. I know he's not everyone's cuppa tea but I enjoy watching his programs and can see he really has enthusiasm for cars, even if he doesn't always know much about how they work :).

I enjoyed the Trading Up series he did recently where he went to various countries and traded different types of cars. Well worth a watch.

Anyway, guys this is a great opportunity to have your cars featured on Discovery and at the same time promote the local club (Sydney Z Club) as well as Auszcar.com.

Unfortunately I won't be back in Sydney to attend myself, but it would be great if we can get a few Z owners along to showcase their Zs to the world!

Id be keen to show a fully built/engineered and registered toxic green 240 z with an RB25det and AZC gear. Providing he came to Canberra!!! Or its more original stuff....? If not, he'll be impressed.

haha, and he is annoying though- rightly or wrongly so, but his programs are great and I like that Ed China fellow.  The only thing that kills me is the way he shakes people hand!!! its so aggressive and he never makes eye contact!!!

go on, hold our your hand fella!!!!...........smack!! 8)

common mate Sydney Isn't that far a trek for you! Don't you think it would be worth the drive up?

Id love to represent, but id bring great shame and embarrass the family, id have to commit a ritual seppuku to regain my honor.  In other words, my car isn't good enough to be on tv  ;D

Hi guys,

I've been in contact with Duncan.

Here is a summary of what he told me.

We are coming to Sydney and Melbourne from Aug 19th to 30th to film the

first episode in a new series of Trading Up. We explore car culture around

the world through the buying and selling of interesting and iconic cars. We

start with $3,000US - can we trade our way up to $30,000US through 6

countries and 18 cars to (hopefully) buy a Ferrari in Italy around May next

year.

So there is the possibility of getting some Melbourne based cars included in this also.

They are looking at buying a japanese classic car for around $4000 USD that can be fixed and sold on as part of the shows theme. I've told him that an early Z may be difficult in that price range as most are projects in need of more than a little bit of work.

They are currently looking at 280zx's but I've also said a 260z 2+2 might be ideal and work with their budget.

If anyone has or knows a car that would be suitable please get in contact with either myself or Duncan.

Regarding Zs to put on display, honestly I wouldn't worry about having the perfect Z. It's not about that, a collection of Zs would be ideal all at various stages of restoration. Don't be afraid that your Z isn't good enough! If it runs, drives that's the main thing!

Since they are currently looking at ZX's is there anyone on here with extensive knowledge of the 280zx's impact at the time it was launched in Australia? I feel I don't know enough about their popularity back in the 80s to really give them more detail about their impact on Australian car culture back in the day. Although it seems Nissan sold a lot of them.

Sounds like they have probably based the price on the US Market where you may find something for that price there. Perhaps they should've done some research prior to reaching out to group and clubs.

Perhaps suggest to them an early rx7? They are a good value classic which can be had for that price...

I was thinking same thing actually, but wanted to see them do a Z and feature them on the program. I do think their budget will limit them (if they want to do an early Z) a ZX can be had, but not sure how desirable they are on the open market?

TA22/28 etc is fairly similar and they've got the 'classic' kinda feel

They already did a TA22 when they did the Japan Episode of the series.

Bumping it up to keep it at the top of the latest threads.

If they are in Australia what about an Australian car?

Plenty of old valiants that can be had for cheap, a little bit of a tidy up and they can be onsold for reasonable profit.

They are actually interested in Japanese Car Culture in Australia. I haven't probed for more details yet, but perhaps they are also going to cover Aussie cars as part of the segment?

Hey Guys,

Does anyone know who organises or runs the All Japan Days? Are they members here?

what we are looking for is an opportunity to get a load of Z cars and other Japanese classics together somewhere on the Sydney area around the 24th August as Mike Brewer and I want to explore the whole Japanese aspect to Aussie car culture.

This series is scheduled to premier on 10th October 2014.

I didn't notice any reference to Australia or Datsun in the promo so I have no idea of the content, however I have only seen it once. I'm sure it will be replayed 10,000 times between now and the 10th!

This was on their Facebook page from 12th September. Apparently to be featured in the Wheeler Dealers 'Trading up' series.
