WTB: 300zx na manual under 170,000k's

hahaha good on ya lurch. Here's the problem... I have a very cool '86 honda accord. The engines in those things last forever.

Problem is, it needs about 2K worth of stuff done to it now, even though i have already replaced shocks, clutch, most bushings

etc etc etc. So i was thinking that I'm better off sinking money into a car more deserving of it. The other thing now is that I have

nearly full time work (4.5 days a week) and i have to drive from Ivanhoe to east bentleigh and back each day. So i need a car

that is relatively modern and reliable. From what i can see 300zx's give you the most bang for your buck all around.

I really don't need it to be a super-fast-drag-rice-box-ule, I'd keep it mostly stock and as i said, keep it as a daily and keep working

on the REAL Zed.

 

Is there something i don't know about 300zx's? basically for a daily driver what i was impressed with in consideration to value with

the 300zx is;

- Boot size (i know its not huge, but better than a sedan because i have to cart a cello around so a "hatch" style is better)

- RWD while its not the most important, i would preffer either RWD or AWD

- power to efficiency ratio... decent amount of power, ok petrol consumption. (VVT)

- Looks amazing

- Air-con

- ABS

- Airbags

- The interior!!!

- Handling (from what i hear, very decent for a GT sports car)

- What i thought was reliability (but you guys can tell me wrong...) i mean, its Japanese!

 

Please grace me with your almighty Z knowledge and give me the facts... From what i can see

you can get a decent 300zx for 7k, and nothing that i can pick can even touch that for value....

 

But i have been wrong before

I've never owned or driven a Z32.

But from what I've heard, they are reaching that age now where they can become troublesome.

Aging electronics and rubber.

Ever looked under a bonnet of one and can hear a vacuum leak? try and find it!

 

I do like the styling though 

 

But I have been wrong before!

From the sound of thingw in relation to the car posted above... it seems as though the previous owner did all the tlc

Stuff... I'm going to have a look at it tomorrow and tell you guys exactly whats been done to it.

well I for one have had my z32 for 3 months and I love it. don't let stories of expensive repairs put you off any old vehicle needs maintenance just so happens its always expensive  like my 260z I do all my own work good luck with the search

I'd buy an s13 instead, either silvia or 180sx, petrol will cost you less, there's heaps of bits around for them, and easier to work on

 

although I must admit I've been tempted by Z32's before, particularly 2 seater turbo ones

I'd go a 180SX before a Z32.

But that's just me!

 

Plus, you can get front end kits to make it look like a Z

But seriously, 180sx's are pretty cool cars, and might be better as far as fuel economy, reliability and ease of maintenance. Of course, we don't buy these cars for sensible reasons (because really, what you need is a Corolla ).

 

I've always wanted both a 180sx and a Z32, but if I bought either of them my wife would kill me, chop up my corpse, and feed me to the dog...

z32 na are really good and reliable, there not that hard to work on like most think, i did how ever have a twin turbo z32 and i loved it but despised working on it, need less to say i do miss my z32

Just get a boring car. I'd love an S13, WRX, SS commo, Supra anything quick for a daily, but then I would spend money on that instead!

 

So I bought a gay little hatchback, has AC, ABS, power windows and it's slow and boring, completely overriding any impulses I might have to tinker with it. I'd buy a newer one because this one is starting to wear out (1997 VW) but I promise you, you will never spend money on it EVER!

Try to get something post 92 (by memory) as the series 1 PTU's tend to sh*t them selves.(if you hadnt noticed/heard that) i think its 92 onwards the problem was fixed.

 

+1 for the boring car idea too. the 300's are great but arent the easiest of to work on. especially my old TT 32 :/

 

oh and make sure it hasnt got Hi-Cas or at least have the lock bar for it. makes for some interesting driving when you have it.

No matter what car I buy id be tempted to tinker with it, but the 300zx is a pretty complete kit as it is. I wouldn't really want to do much with it. I would go one of the smaller turbo nissans, but I have the curse of the p plate, and will have it for a while too...

Basically id want a pretty stock car because I like the sleeper look of modern sporty cars, and the 300zx looks hoony enough as it is for me.

I bought a 95 mr2. Seems to be the perfect balance between sporty and reliable...
