G Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Since my first ad worked so well, does anyone have any triple webers, mikunis etc for sale? Just thought I'd ask.. Quote
Scoota G Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 That would be luvemfast (simon, soooooo many simons) he'll chime in. Quote
luvemfast Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Nope. Fresh out of triples. Got some twin 44PHH though Quote
1600dave Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Any more info on the twin 44's ? And G, are you after a good working set, or a restoration project ? 40's or 44's (or 45's) ? Quote
G Posted February 7, 2013 Author Posted February 7, 2013 I can get 40's, but I've been told that 44's and 45's are better. I have a pretty standard 2.4, but I will be doing some head work I think or maybe installing a worked head. I will probably keep the 2.4 though. Have you seen this 1600dave? http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/perth-region/engine-engine-parts-transmission/sk-racing-carburettor-twin-40mm-escort-datsun-/1012434862 Looks like a nice setup of OER's - which I'm told are the best of of the sidedrafts to get. 1600dave Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 OK, I only have 40's, the Toyota OEM style ones. And they are a real "project" And though the OER's are nice, I'm limited to Solex's due to the class I'll be racing in :-\ Quote
G Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 Wow. Relegated to a specific carb brand. Seems a little rough! Are the Toyota ones a matched set? I'm starting to get a bit confused. I've got someone saying "never get webers", others saying "never go 40's - always go bigger" etc etc. That's all well and good if pockets are eternally deep! If that was the case we'd all have perfect z's I guess... Whilst I'd prefer 44's or 45's it's probably going to mean new carbs, which at the moment I'm going to find a little difficult to stomach. Missed out on a set of Mikunis from the States, but not much else seems to come up - at a price to match what can be imported from o/s anyway... Any advice? Ideas? Quote
Scoota G Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Triples most always work better than twin su's. Go injection and that will solve all your problems. Triples are hard to set up and tune so be prepared. All the info you need is right on this forum and i know becuase i had 40's an 45's + i have set up injection too. Question is what do YOU want. For a novice i would stick with the twins, after that go for 40mm whatever. I like Dellortos but parts are easier to get for webers. Half a dozen of one or six of the other!! The word is flow. If it doesn't work all the way through then you are wasting your time. Sort of. Scoota Quote
Administrators gav240z Posted February 8, 2013 Administrators Posted February 8, 2013 G. on a relatively standard L24 stick with S.U carbs. Even with head work you probably won't max out the flow of the SUs. I would highly recommend the Just SU's video here: http://www.ztherapy.com/ To give you an idea of what you can achieve with just the S.U's. Now if you are looking for triples for the look and sound more so than the performance boost, well that's another story... Quote
acf321 Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Yep, I agree with Gav. Get a 'good' set of SU's on a relatively standard L24 and it will work a treat. If you do want to go aftermarket, I can recommend the OER's which I bought for my car. Having said that, i'm only going on what i've been told as i've not used the car .. um .. ever! Quote
G Posted February 9, 2013 Author Posted February 9, 2013 Hi Guys I ordered the z therapy vids a few weeks ago - still waiting for them to arrive. I like the look, sound and... well, the VIBE of Webers. Always wanted them, but could never justify the expense. As we're likely to pull the motor down and do some head work whilst we're there, I'd like to bolt on a set of sidedrafts when it goes back in. Even though injection is the sensible option from an engineering perspective, I still like the idea of Webers (or equivalents). acf311 - the only thing stopping me getting the OER's is the cost, otherwise I think they're the best option! Moderators Zedman240® Posted February 9, 2013 Moderators Posted February 9, 2013 I don't see anything wrong at all with 40mm Solex or Dellorto.. If the car is mainly for the street, the 40's will probably work better. Unless you have a decent sized cam, and a motor modified to suit, anything bigger will be a waste of time/money. A set of 40's with a mild cam will work well on the road/ club events. Quote
HKSZ Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 G, think you should buy these carbs and write a review for us all http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/TRIPLE-45-DCOE-TYPE-CARBURETTOR-NEW-CARBIES-REPL-WEBER-DELLORTO-SOLEX-/160966308239?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item257a56f18f Quote
G Posted February 9, 2013 Author Posted February 9, 2013 Haha! Thanks HKSZ! I called those guys once and asked them if they sold Webers. He said "yes..er...*cough*...kinda..very similar, but better". To cut a long story short, I didn't bother taking it much further.. Quote
G Posted February 10, 2013 Author Posted February 10, 2013 Just got a set of almost new Weber 40's. Couldn't be happier - now begins the conversion (and from what I gather) heartache... Quote

The Dato 1600/2000's have just been given the OK to run Weber DCOE, courtesy of me and Danny Castro. CAMS are about to update the Group S Specification sheets! Quote
1600dave Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Excellent !! That should make things a little easier. Quote
